How To Lose A Business Or Community Overnight...

Story time with Jongo...

I have been building businesses online for 2 decades now online. And throughout those years, I've had plenty of wins and just as many losses.

One of those loses was as epic as they come...Imagine a million dollar business, almost evaporating overnight. And sure I would love to blame the world, point fingers at market situations and cry a river...

But in fact the biggest reason we destroyed our own business was simple.

We stopped communicating.

My business partners at that time, basically shut ourselves out from each other. While building the business and spending years working side by side, as soon as we faced some turbulent times, we just stopped talking...

To make matters worse, we stopped talking to customers as well...A community that we built and was thriving at one time, was ignored because we didn't know what to do or say...So we shut out our most important assets...Our customers and community...

What a lesson!

I did my best to keep the lines of communication open, but without open communication from the top...It was a lost cause.

Why do I bring this up?

Has anyone been paying attention to what's going on with Steem and Tron these days?

Hard to ignore right?

I can see the problem and it's staring right in the front of us all...The lines of communication were NEVER opened. It was NEVER there to begin with between Steemit Inc and the Steem community, so why do we expect the Tron foundation to be any different?

And this isn't an anti-Tron post because communication works like this....It's both ways!

So we saw errors and lack of communication from both sides but ironically, it's what can solve this mess as well.

Keep. Talking!

This goes for any business or community building project as well...The more open you are, the more transparent you are...The more trust you build!

As soon as you stop those lines of communication...You may as well write your death certificate in business!

So I implore not only the Steem community, keep talking!

Tron foundation...Keep talking!

And we can get these issues sorted out for good. Maybe it's not that simple. Perhaps we're way past the talking phase of this entire drama...

But I guarantee this...99.9% of the problems could have been erased before they ever began if we just...Talked!

My thoughts on a Saturday night....

Excellent insight JonGo. You are dead right about keeping the lines of Communication open and above all else just TALK ;)

Open communication is paramount to any relationship, whether it be a business relationship, a business acquaintance a Personal relationship or even the relationship you have with your grocery store. Without open communication no one knows what you might want or what you might have to offer.

Open communication is the cornerstone of success in business.. to deny this is to invite failure... the "NEW" CTP is a great example of businesses communicating with their customers...

Communication is the key , but it needs honest saying one thing when you are talking to folks, then make a blog post saying 100% opposite is not going to work. Then deleting the post after is not going to help. Both sides need to cool off and then talk. Great post Jon.

Talking is really good, especially when you have something to talk about or with whom. But when each side keeps their own narrative, nobody listens and nobody moves an inch back from a stalemate, talking seems in vain.

exactly. and that is my biggest concern. lots of ego. lots of ‘my way or no way’

For sure. Not easy, but communication is definitely the way by to go!

Agreed. Everyone has valid points, they just need to sit down and talk.

True! Even if all you can tell a client is "I don't know what happened--yet" or "I am so sorry it is taking so long to fix this" that is so much better than avoiding them. People can forgive honesty more easily than they forgive being ignored.

Absolutely. Just touching base is a great strategy even if you arent exactly sure of the outcome. Just talk!!!

Indeed, communication is crucial and I have also experienced what lack of communication can do.

With all the negativity and stumbling blocks it can be tough to keep with your routine and you can find yourself in a pit pretty quickly not knowing how to get out of it.

Yeah man....And sometimes (in my case for sure) you can miss out because you decided to ignore issues and 'turtle' yourself. lol

Great post, as usual, Jon! I would add one thing to this:

So I implore not only the Steem community, keep talking!
Tron foundation...Keep talking!

Try to LISTEN to each other! That's equally important... As communication is a two-way road, talking and listening... and these TRON-STEEM discussions are more talking and a little listening...

just my 2x

You are so right. Without communication everyone's mind is able to create any scenario it wants and they generally not positive. It doesn't matter personal or business, communication is essential.

Yes communication is fundamental to have a healthy business relationship, and also translates very much to what happens on Steem now, stay awesome.
