It's crazy the way life works...

About 5 years ago, my life was in utter chaos. Businesses being destroyed, lives ruined...And I was at the brink of basically giving up!

My entrepreneurial dreams came crashing down, and like you guys know who have been following my journey, it's been an uphill battle since.

You know how many times I wanted to give up?

Actually....I never did!

The thought never crossed my mind. I knew from an early age in life, I'd always be an entrepreneur so this was my....Test! And this past weekend...It kind of paid off ;)

After years of living in major cities and being surrounded by millions of people, my family and I made the decision to move to the....

Middle of nowhere lol

Literally, we're about as far away from civilization as you can be...O.k., we're not THAT far but we are about to be in rural Alberta, Canada!

And this weekend, was part 1 of 3 of our 'move' of a lifetime!

I'm going to share a few pics of the new acreage and go over our plans for the next few years...God willing :)

IMG_4059.jpeg

Thats my mom....On the driveway up to the house. It's not a massive property, but man oh man...It's more land than I ever thought I'd live on lol

IMG_4057.jpeg

The property is surrounded by as much farmland as you could possibly imagine. Yeah that's basically the backyard. Not part of the property, but as you can see...The neighbours are....Quite a ways away. In fact, you can't even see them because....They aren't close at all LOLOL.

IMG_4061.jpeg

This is a view from the first outbuilding, to the road. Lots of trees surround the property but here's the kicker...It's home to a bunch of owls and falcons...I actually saw a few of them chasing little birds around all afternoon. I loved every second of it LOL

IMG_4062.jpeg

Here's a side view of the second outbuilding. With the 'backyard' in the distance lol. We've got big plans for this land but for this year, it'll just be family time beside the fire pits and lots of exploring.

Now here's the challenges I'm sure to face....

First, I'm a city slicker lol. I have grownup and spent the bulk of my life in major cities so this will all be new to me. My wife has a desire to build a small chicken farm and get into raising them. Of course, we know NOTHING about that or living off the land. So this will be a project to say the least lol

Thankfully I've discovered @generikat amazing content via ListNerds and have been poking around her blog and learning a TON! And we've actually signed up for 'farm school'. I can't believe that's even a thing but....Here we go lol

Second and this is the biggest issue for me is....Internet!

Being in the city, you never think about it. You expect LTE or 5G on your cell phone all day, every day. You expect lightning fast internet in your home as well. Well, it doesn't work that way in the middle of 'Po' Dunk Alberta'...

And the cell service is sketchy at best out there so....What are we going to do?

Looks like we're going to give our buddy Elon Musk a call and see if his fancy Starlink satellites can help us out lol

The CryptoManiacs Podcasts will be....Universal now :)

This is a big change and my life might be a bit chaotic for the next few months as we get adjusted. But it's an adventure. It's something my family has been dreaming about for years and...We're going to make it work!!!!

Looks like a good place to live. Besides if Starlink is available that would be a good way to keep things connected. It's not that bad as far as speed and the bandwidth is concerned. I am sure things will work out just fine. It seems like crypto has got you in a good semi retirement lol.

wow! I love it and I congratulate you for the change. I did a similar trip years ago, I even changed countries, and I haven't regretted it for a moment.

Chicken farm sounds good lots of work but can be good. Looks like you have enough room to put in a market garden as well.

Best of luck.

Oh boy! You guys test your limits quite often. Nature looks awesome, but I assume it'll take a ton of physical labor to live there. Which would be great for health.

a word of advice: consider checking out other satelite providers before signing a contract. You might save a few bucks :)

Oh! I am so excited for you guys! And you are my neighbors to the north! I love Alberta!

Someone who just picks themselves up and keeps on working is going so going to crush the homesteading thing, because it's not about what you know, it's about your willingness to try new things, listen to others, and learn from it all.

That said, Farm School?! What is that? I am so, so curious?!? Future blog posts please? LOL!

Congratulations on your big adventure! If you ever have questions throw them this way, even if I don't know the answer my former librarian-self has lots of resources for things!

Oh! And Starlink is AWESOME! Just spent a week in the wilderness (no services of any kind, completely off grid) and thanks to Elon's network I was able to work and stream stuff with ease!

Welcome to rural living. The internet accessibility will just be one of the items you will be having the opportunity to experience. We moved from Dallas Texas out to a rural area in Central Texas. Depending how far away the grocery store or other shopping you will need to plan your trips accordingly. No more making a run to the store to get one or two items, especially with the price of gas as high as it is. Also, with all the additional traveling for shopping trips it will impact the scheduling of your online activities. Oh, you are in for lots of new experiences. It is just a different way of life, lets you slow down and enjoy as well. LOL

Congrats!!! You are going to love it!!! I do! I did find it took a little getting used to, after moving from the 'big city'... but now when I go to the city I always wonder how I ever managed to live their in the first place!

There is so much wildlife all over the place, all the time!! Really changed my perspective on life (in a really good way). I think you are going to love it!

In fact, the only complaint I had was bad internet... really bad. But Starlink fixed that, it's awesome!!!!! I can't sing enough praises about it. I was stuck with the most crappy aDSL line for many years and Starlink finally saved the day. I use it for my phone too (voip) and it's almost just as good as land line. It really is awesome! (it's not like fiber, but compared to all the other available options it's night and day and works pretty darn good!).

Congrats to you and your family, awesome move!!!
