My Hive Story In 882 Words!

Last night I was checking out a post by @themarkymark where he shared 'His Hive Story'...

In a nutshell, this little campaign was spearheaded by @snook where she wanted other members of the blockchain to answer a series of questions about how they discovered Hive and about their journey here on the blockchain.

Brilliant idea!

So this is my contribution to 'My Hive Story' shared in a simple question and answer format.

How long have you been on the Blockchain?

I joined on December 7th, 2018! And just recently celebrated 4 years on chain. What a journey so far :)

What was your background in Cryptocurrency when you first came to the blockchain?

I actually played around with Bitcoin and Litecoin mining very early in the game. Of course, I had no idea what I was started to play around with and when Bitcoin hit a few hundred dollars, I ended up selling the majority of my coins.

I was also mining a bunch of LTC every day and ended up selling the bulk of them when Litecoin hit 5 bucks too.

That's why everyone should take my financial advice LOL Just kidding, I suck...

What was your background in writing when you first came to the blockchain?

I've been writing for years. Started out way back in the late 90's as I wrote for a popular Urban Music magazine based out of Toronto, Canada. That morphed into weekly blogging for my online business and even self published my own book back in 2007.

To this date, it's an Amazon best seller in the niche I wrote about....Mostly because it was the only book ever written about my chosen niche back then!

How many people did you know when you first came to the Blockchain?

I didn't know anyone on the blockchain when I first joined, but little did I know...There were quite a few people I had met over the years here on chain.

I had worked with and known @bitcoinflood and @elizacheng for years and years before any of us even knew what this blockchain was. Felt good to eventually find some familiar names here!

How did you meet people when you first came to the Blockchain?

Commenting!

That was a big priority for me when I was brand new here. I figured, no one is going to get to know me if I'm as quiet as a mouse, so for the first few years...All I did was comment and create.

Wait a minute, I think I'm still doing that??

Who did you look up to when you first came to the blockchain?

I had no idea what I was doing....It was pretty bad. So I didn't try to ruffle any feathers when I first joined, I was a sponge and just added as many valuable comments as I could.

A few creators really helped me get a feel for the community, I enjoyed watching @exyle daily updates (man I miss that guy). He was so passionate about this community, it helped me believe in what I was trying to build here as well.

How would you describe your first three months on the blockchain?

Slightly confused lol

Seriously I spent the first few months reading and re-reading the old white paper and blue papers. I did as much homework as I could when it came to DPOS and this entire 'tokenize the internet' proposition.

Has being a part of the blockchain changed you in any way for the good?

It's saved my life! And I'm not even trying to be funny. My life was in chaos when I first discovered the blockchain, so it helped me get my focus back. And along with @blainjones and the entire CTP community, we've built a home for our business here on Hive!

What is your favorite memory from your time on the blockchain?

I have 2....

The first was my first whale vote from @singhcapital under his 'Johal Files' account. I was streaming on Dlive one night, not earning a penny from my time and then all of a sudden I saw this massive notification that I got an upvote. It changed my approach completely to this stuff. because of his vote, I felt like my content was valuable and people enjoyed it. From then on, that's ho I go about creating every piece of content on Hive now....Value first, upvotes are a bonus and I'm grateful for them!

The second has to be Steemfest 3 in Krakow back in 2018. I met so many amazing community members and got to break bread with @nathanmars who supported me since the day he got on chain. The Hive community truly is filled with amazing, generous people!

If you could give advice to a new person signing up to Hive what would it be?

Enjoy the journey. Because it truly is a journey. If you come on here trying to make a million bucks overnight, you will leave feeling defeated. The journey includes personal growth, constant learning and a desire to add value here each and every day.

And oh yeah...Don't give up. Don't ever ever ever give up!!!

Feel the same. So sad to see such a enthusiast goes completly dark after Justin Sun and the fork.
He was actually the reason I invested some money on Steem in the first place :o

Well... he is more or less around.

I've seen him in Splinterlands discord once or twice. I met his account in combat once in recent months (of course it could be someone else playing it).

Yup, I started my then-Steem journey with him too, and I'd like to see him active as a content creator. But long time ago he said he wanted to retire from the content creating aspect and focus on other stuff, more back-end. That was before the split and the stuff that happened then.

hmm, we lost him in the late window of the STEEM Blockchain War. Also, he was heavy on DTube and that... you know... has its own struggle to go through.

Absolutely true, it is a journey not a destination.

It's kind of funny how nothing really changed from what you were doing before (creating content and commenting). However it was definitely an amazing journey for you. It looks like most people are confused when they first join and I guess this is one aspect we need to fix.

Really interesting facts you got here on your experience since you joined the hive blockchain and honestly four years is not a child's play.
Actually to me for the last few months I've been here the hive blockchain has been a bumpy ride and I tell you I had to get a strong seat belt and fastened it real well so as not to fall by the way side at least so I don't give up. As you said we should never ever give up. Thanks for that advice and motivation, giving up isn't a word in my dictionary. !PIZZA

I still remember the time I met you in Krakow and I was like... Is that YOU? 😂 Are you the Jon from CTP? I feel like a dream and never thought I would really meet you in person... You are REAL...

My first day in this platform was not easy because I was thinking how to formulate what to post because I'm not good in discussion.

That's ok, not everyone is going to write amazing articles on day one, that's the best thing about making comments...You can do that without much effort :)

Nice Q&As. I may try to answer these question as well.
I am glad to know that everyone started as a newbie and it's not only me. Looking forward to engage more and create value in the ecosystem.

I find that true about almost any industry. If a person tries to make a million overnight they will fail miserably.
Regardless of how many times I read your Hive story it never ceases to amaze me.
I know from experience the real reason why so many people have been struggling for years and years and have not made any forward progress.
Your story is amazing because I would never have recognized the value of this blockchain with out someone like you to explain it.
