My Thoughts After....13 Seconds!

The Relaunch & Evolution of ListNerds.png

I've never done a 'post season reflection post'....

..So figured it was as good a time as ever to give my thoughts on the 2021-22 Buffalo Bills season...

I am a sports fan. A big one at that. And while I enjoy basketball, hockey, baseball, soccer and heck, even cricket...My first love in sports is the NFL!

And the team I have been cheering for since I can remember (well over 35 years) are the Buffalo Bills.

What can I say, I'm a glutton for punishment...

And tonight the Bills lost what some are calling one of the greatest playoff games in history and they lost in....Traditional Buffalo Bills fashion.

If you have not yet heard about the history of the Buffalo Bills, let me break down a few epic failures of this franchise...

Wide right - Losing the Super Bowl by missing a field goal as time expired.

The Music City Miracle - Losing on a non-call for a forward pass!!!

And now we have a new one.....13 seconds!

We lost tonight's game which was pretty much a guaranteed ticket to the Super Bowl (sorry Bengals...) on some of the worst defensive coverages I've ever seen and a coaching staff that didn't....Play to win!

Look, I'm sure there will be plenty of analysis over the off season on how the game SHOULD have went, but here's a few of my take aways of the game and of the overall season...

Josh Allen is a UNICORN! There are no other QB's like him! - And if he's not the king yet, he will be! This guy literally put his team on his back over the last few minutes of the game and gave the Bills a chance to win! Almost 400 yards of offense and 4 touch downs...Just a masterclass in the position!

He's in Buffalo for almost the next decade so now is time to go all in! Surround him with talent on both sides of the ball and let this kid cook! If you watched the game, you'll know why we've been saying for years....Josh is the truth!

Daboll and Frazier are most likely gone - I know, I know...We had a great year and the offensive and defensive coordinators of this team are a big reason for it. And they are getting interviews across the league for head coaching positions.

Good!

I've never really been a fan of either of them for a few reasons. Daboll never seems to let Josh be Josh. And Frazier just seems lost and never adapts to situations in game.

Time for some of the up and coming coaches in the Bills to take the reigns and let Josh...be Josh!

We need secondary help...BAD! - Our pro bowl corner Tre White was hurt weeks ago and gone for the season. And management did nothing to address this at the trade deadline or even the draft last year.

So our safeties literally had to play double duty for the second half of the season. I like Levi Wallace, I think he needs to be resigned, but we NEED help at corner in case Tre or Levi gets hurt again!

As for the good....

We're the kings of the AFC East! - I take a little bit of solace knowing we destroyed the Patriots last week lol And there isn't any quarterback in our division even CLOSE to Josh!

Our team is literally, a piece or two away from absolute domination! - Yeah, Kansas City is no joke. And Mahomes can be considered the best QB in the league if you HAVE to give it to him instead of Josh lol But this team is RIGHT there....Just a few pieces, a trade or two and draft well...We'll be golden!

I'm still a ride or die member of Bills Mafia!!! I love this team, and I had an awesome season watching these guys ball out. Sure, it's not the outcome we hoped for....But I'm still pumped up for the future of this franchise!

And the NFL is in VERY good hands, if we get to see Josh and Patrick duel it out for the next decade!!!

Buffalo's season is done, some may say it was a disappointment, I'm o.k. with that....But I'm still very excited to see this team compete each and every season!

Looking forward to Championship Sunday later this week and rooting for a Rams / Bengals SuperBowl now!!!

I'm not going to lie you, @jongolson. I'm not an American football fan. However, and that being said, I'm a huge soccer fan. I think I can understand your pain, though. I'm from Costa Rica, and we love when our National Team plays against big names around the world. Just like we did in 2014 World Cup. I think one of my favorite moments was when we won against Italy. That was sublime! Of course, our team had also heartbreaking defeats like when we were out from World Cup 2010 against USA in 2009. It wasn't exactly a "defeat", but that tie was enough to left us out. Of course, at that time we went to play-off for a 4th place, but it wasn't enough, and we didn't go at the end. By the way, this 2022 we will be probably out again from the World Cup... Well, time will tell! Great reading! Thank you for sharing it!

I remember that year for you guys...What a run and time for Costa Rica!

We are looking good this year for the World Cup, first time since the 1980's we'll be in it lol (Canada)

I saw most of the game last night and both teams played a great game, what a crazy battle. I had no idea who would end up winning and in the end it was anyones game but the luck went against you.

In my opinion both quarter backs are great players, I don't know that one is better then the other. They have different styles and they both have really good offensive players around them. The best quarter back in the World is nothing without a good supporting cast. I mean look at Trevor Lawrence, he has talent but his team doesn't. lol

I think the Bills have been curst with bad luck at some point, maybe you guys need to sacrafice a goat on the 50 yard line or something.

I'm so used to it...I just pray the Bills don't waste Josh's career like Marino lol

Sorry, had to throw one last dig at the Dolphins lol

Very Curious!! Which up and coming coaches would you recommend to replace Daboll and Frazier? I agree with not adapting but I belive that problem is more fundamental than just replacing coaches...keep in mind the buffalo bills wouldn't have reached where they are without them...

Anyways I chalk this game down to just bad luck...it would have gone either way...

For offense, we have great guys as our quarterback and wide receivers coaches that would fit perfectly into the mix. Chad Hall is BELOVED by his players and I think he would be perfect.

As for Frazier...That's a million dollar question. TBH, the more I think about it, the more I think he might end up staying.

Love the Dad and baby photo at the top!

Kinda sums up how I feel about my football (ahem, "soccer") team, Leeds United right now!

My favourite moment was last weekend when Jack Harrison scored his third goal - and first hat-trick in the Premier League - against high-flyers West Ham, AT West Ham (which is in London - a city that is not usually kind to Leeds)...

That was a very nice birthday present.

And then there was the game on Saturday, at home against relegation candidates Newcastle United... After beating West Ham away I think it's fair to say everybody was confident that Leeds would win at home... but did they heck!

Lots of industry and no goals... then a ghastly series of screw-ups in which an attacker lost the ball (again), our defender panicked and committed a needless foul, and our (usually brilliant) goalkeeper fumbled a soft free kick and let the ball in.

Result: Leeds 0 - Newcastle 1. :(

Ho hum...

P. S. Guess how I came across this post! ;)

As a Purdue fan for life, I have had many, many heartbreaking basketball seasons. No matter how good we are, we always manage to fall apart at some point in tournament play. !BBH

I really can't talk much about sports, as the only sport I do is walking for few hours each day with my 3 dogs. Well, yeah, that's sport enough. Have you ever had a workout because your 3 shepherd dogs are pulling the leashes very hard? I deal with that kind of workout each and every single day.

I'm also not a person to watch sports on tv, I guess here you also have nothing valuable to read. But I do remember when my mom used to watch all kind of sports on television and I was forced to watch that with her.

She did some fanatic couch sports, kicking the imaginary balls in the net, slamming the imaginary tennis balls. It was really fun to watch!

Wishing you fun with all the sports you want to watch and look forward too!

My memory of something incredible in sports is the 1998-99 UEFA Champions League final in which Manchester United came from behind with two goals in stoppage time against FC Bayern Munich.

Okay, I know you're looking for sports fans to comment but I thought I'd chime in anyway. We watched the last few minutes of the game and kept track of the score here and there. Thought that the Bills were going to win that one. I feel so bad for real fans like you having to watch that. Just like the heartbreak I feel for the real die-hard GB Packer fans having to watch them lose at home in weather that should have been to their advantage. Of course what I know about football you could fit on a few small post notes. Love the picture, by the way.

My favorite moment was during the season when it appeared the Cowboys were finally going to be in contention like they used to be in days of old. Sometimes we all need a reality check. Better luck next season. Take care.

Yeah I thought the Cowboys would do much better than what they ended up with...Sucks to go out like that, both Cowboys and Bills lost because of inept coaching.

Back in 1995 when the Chargers were still in San Diego, and Junior Seau local Oceanside California Football legend was still playing. The Chargers went to the Super Bowl and we could not be happier, I mean all of San Diego and surrounding areas.
Game time and the Chargers were completely outclassed by the 49ers. Ever see an entire Sports Bar of heartbroken fans?
I will remember that game till the day I die.

Oh man, Junior Seau.....RIP!

I was always a closet Chargers fan. Felt like they were the Buffalo Bills of the AFC West lol

That is awesome to hear. I never met him but when I lived in Oceanside California, Junior Seau made such a positive impression on the younger people like a local Hero that would hold them accountable.
Wish more pro athletes took their responsibilities to the young people more seriously.

I don't watch American football but I'm a huge basketball & soccer fan.
I'm a Lakers fan since I'm a little kid and my two favorite players are Kobe and Lebron James. You can imagine how devastated I was when I heard about Kobe and how happy I was when Lebron joined the team and we won the playoffs.
I don't have any expectations for this season since we play so bad lol (These guys can't defend for their life, it's painful to watch 😭)
In soccer, I'm a Barcelona fan, and obviously, Messi is my favorite player so it's a difficult season for us but I still have hope for the future because we have a lot of very promising young players who just need some time to grow. We will be back at the top very soon!

Yeah my second fav. sport is basketball, and a huge Toronto Raptors fan. Used to sneak into the games when I was a teenager and made it a weekly event when I lived in Toronto.

Kobe will forever be the guy who dropped 81 points on us LOL

I was actually rooting for the Bills to win. After they went ahead . Just like Tony Romo was saying. I thought they would squib kick it. He was saying it would have taken sometime off the clock. Romo by the way is the best color commentator in the NFL followed closely by Troy Aikman. Oh would you look at that there both former Cowboys.

Blows my mind, was thinking the exact thing and then when they booted it into the end zone...I was speechless.

Oh of course, the Cowboys love lolol

It could be worse. You could be a Giants fan. Our big playoff week push was to hire a GM.

Or worse, you could be a Jets fan...50 years of misery and counting.

There is always the mixed couples handball league.

Pretty sure your next head coach is going to be Brian Daboll.

And I'm already calling it...He brings in Mitch Trubisky to battle Jones for the starting QB spot.

I don't watch much sports besides basketball from time to time. I guess my favorite moment was back when the LA Lakers won the NBA championship. I guess I was rooting for the home team but that was a long while back when I was still a kid (probably around 2,000) and I was watching the game with my parents.

Huge Magic Johnson fan, loved how he played the game!

Ah yea. As for me, I loved Kobe Bryant being on the field but it's too bad Lebron keeps making things political. So sometimes it's hard to think of it as the same team.

Sorry about your Bills Jon maybe next year will be better. As for my favorite moment in sports has to be the night the Calgary Flames beat the Montreal Canadians in Montreal to
win the Stanley Cup followed by the Bucs winning the super bowl with Tom Brady as quarterback maybe they will win again this year.

ok since I have been knee-deep in work all day today I missed this post until you pushed me over here...

First... SQUIB THE DAMN BALL
Second... How do you let Kelce and Hill get THAT OPEN??
Third... We gonna have 15 years of these two QB's dueling it out. And that is good for the NFL (maybe not so much the Browns)

Like you said, Jon... there is always next year... After all, I have been saying that exact same phrase for the last 50 years.

I actually went back and watched the "wide right" and "music city miracle" moments on YouTube after you made those comments. And you are right, this one last night ranks on par or perhaps even highest amount those moments.

I said it early, I had thrown in the towel at 13 seconds and made the assumption "this is over." The problem I think is the Bills did the same thing I did. They kicked deep and gave them that full 13 seconds. Can we say SQUIBBBB! Will any other team every do that again after seeing last nights game? Probably.

Bills have an amazing team. Josh is the real deal. Man the rivalry is looking great for a few more years ;)

Now: Let's go Bengals!! (I'm rooting for the underdog!)

I'm looking forward to it.

This one stings because, Music City....Bills team was trash. Just got lucky to even be in the Wild Card. This Bills team was legit. And if they beat KC, I dont think any other team would have stopped them from winning the Lombardi.

Well, Jon, I feel your pain. My most recent memorable (but not favorite) moment just happened a week earlier with the Dallas Cowboys. Who lets time run out because they didn't give the ball to the refs to be set for the next play? And the word of the day...PENALTIES! Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

As far as favorite moment goes...I seem to remember the Cowboys and Bills playing against each other in a couple of Super Bowls in the 90s (I had to go there).

I have lots of sports memories. In NFL i am a giants fan so wide right(sorry Bills fans) and the 2 SB over Patriots is some of the best NFL memories. I am also a soccer fan and as a dane there is the european championship in 1992 when Denmark won after not even qualifying(Yougoslavia was not alloved to participate because of war and Denmark got the place). And one of the worst memories is also from a soccer match when Christian Eriksen had a cardiac arrest during where the worst thing was not knowing for a long time what happened after seeing the doctor giving CPR on the field.

Oh man, it was brutal. I have some Buffalo roots. In fact, in my parent's home still flies a Buffalo Braves pennant. Yeah, remember when Buffalo was able to lose horribly in the NBA, too?

All of my good sports memories this year are from the Olympics. Like all of the skateboard medal contenders (we are supposed to take this seriously of course) kept dropping their iPhones and earbuds during their tricks. The ridiculousness of watching 40 year olds in cargo shorts dropping their phones and pretending it is an Olympic dream was definitely my sports highlight. All the rest was pain.

Hang in there! BTW, over from LinkNerds (or if you are a Bills fan, LinkNerfs? sorry, just lashing out in anger lol). 2023!!
