So Now That You've Built Your Brand...

A few days ago, I wrote a blog post that was titled 'B.Y.B.' or Build Your Brand....

The goal of the post was the show people how important building a personal brand is online, and even more so here on Hive. A quick recap...People do business with those they know, like and trust. So our mission, as entrepreneurs, is to get people to know, like and trust us through personal branding.

Sounds great Jongo, then what?

I thought I would follow that post up with an oldie but goodie! And if you have ever been in marketing or sales, this message with resonate with you...

(This is from my journal circa 2010. So replace 'leads' with...Potential followers / subscribers if you want!)

AIDA baby!

This age old acronym has been a staple in marketing circles for decades, and it goes something like this...

First you create awareness (this is where you have been building your brand!) If people don't know you exist, nothing good can possibly happen in your online business. And while this is just one of the steps to creating a thriving online business, it is the one I feel is most important.

Second step is creating interest in your products or services. Another 'popular saying' fits this step which is it takes multiple exposures to create sales. Remember, someone brand new to your content may not have seen you a week ago, so it's important to stay in front of people to generate potential interest in what you are building.

Third is the desire potential customers will have to be a part of your brand and business. The feel of being a part of a community, or that excitement that builds before they dive in with a purchase or investment. An example that hits home with me, is when I fell in love with #Splinterlands . Not only do I get super excited when new products or services launch. I go out of my way to be a part of the product launch. The desire is unmatched!

And finally...The money shot! It's time for your customer to take action. This is when the sale is made, the new subscription comes across your desk, they press 'follow' on your social media...The end result of all that work you've done in personal branding and getting people to know your business...Comes down to the action being taken!

And like you can gather from the examples I've used, this isn't limited to just 'online sales'. If you are a content creator, you are using the exact same model. The end result may not be an actual transaction worth money, but it does mean a new subscriber, follower, fan etc.

The AIDA model has been around forever. And sure it may seem a little dated. However when we use it here on the blockchain, with the end goal to add value to our new customers and followers, I still think it's a very valuable tool to add to your journey!

Thanks for sharing this, it is beneficial to be associated with certain branding which is necessary for Hive to do well on the platform.

I've known about this principle in relation to online marketing for ages. The biggest challenge is always getting people to part with their hard earned cash. I had never thought of applying it to Hive, but it makes sense. The great thing is, on the blockchain, you are not asking people to part with a lot of cash, you are just asking them to subscribe and engage with your content. That seems to be a much easier prospect to sell.

Thanks for the tip. I will go and read your previous post.

Absolutely, you don't need to 'sell' here...Other than presenting yourself as someone people would like to follow and subscribe to!

It's tough to build a brand but I do think AIDA is a good way to summarize how hard things are. I also think the 1st step of awareness is probably very important because a lot of projects fail here. I guess it's why all those projects paid so heavy for promotional material.

Yup, most fail there. Or give up too soon. Gotta stay the course to keep awareness high!

Building your own brand is very complex and this method can certainly help you achieve it. Above all, you have to be clear about your goals before you start.

It's a process that can be implemented in different areas with the same goal in mind. For example, you can also follow this process in friendships and relationships.

For me, I did try out this process numerous times but I just didn't know there is a name for it. Now I do! The AIDA model.

Great point. Everything else is a bonus, but the relationships you build on the journey is what matters.

I wonder if can use the AIDA for building business over existing Hive projects. Like something out of Splinterlands, something unofficial but kind of like how people use wordpress and build business around it, so something like hive and splinterlands and created business around the same? Something to ponder over.

I think you are going to see a lot of businesses being set up to cater to the Splinterlands eco system.

The end result of all that work you've done in personal branding and getting people to know your business...Comes down to the action being taken!

Makes me remember when Aggy ran Minnow support, as a tiny minnow at the time, I benefited immensely from the program, by the time Splinterlands was announced, I jumped into it head on and it was mostly based on Aggy and the brand he’d created.

That was the ground work for sure, that really helped him build the relationships and personal brand going forward.

People tend to forget that they are building a brand with every post and every comment they leave on this chain. You are a pretty good example how to build a brand on hive ;-)
