The Not So Strange Case Of Crypto.com

cro.png

Late last night I was scrolling on Twitter and came across a post that was so 'out there' I had to do a double take to make sure it wasn't 'fake news'...

The tweet has now been liked and shared thousands of times...I'm sure you've seen it by now:

Crypto-com-on-Twitter-We-re-extremely-proud-to-announce-that-Staples-Center-Los-Angeles-most-iconic-arena-is-getting-a-new-name-https-t-co-vCNztATkNg-Arena-As-part-of-this-20-year-partnership-we-re-also-excited-to-welcome-the-Lakers-amp-LAK.png

(Source Twitter)

Last night Crypto.com announced that they had secured the naming rights for the 'Staples Center' in Los Angeles for the next 20 years.

For those that may not be familiar with basketball and hockey, this is the home arena for the LA Lakers, LA Kings and the LA Clippers (even though they will be moving to their own arena soon).

It's kind of a big deal in professional sports as Staples Center will always be known as the house the Kobe Bryant build. It's one of the most famous sporting arenas in North American professional sports and a fixture in the city of Los Angeles.

The Crypto.com Arena....

A lot of the chatter on social media came from sports fanatics that said in unison:

"It'll always be called Staples Center!!!!"

And to that, I think they miss the irony of what just took place...

Sure, it's a huge win for Crypto.com as a company, but also for the entire crypto space. This brings MASSIVE awareness to our little side of the internet and we have already seen the positive impact of this news...

Crypto-com-Coin-CRO-price-today-chart-market-cap-news-CoinGecko.png

(I feel like a genius buying up CRO at like 10 cents now LOL)

But here's the biggest impact that I saw mentioned in one of the comments online...

While people (mostly sports fans) were pissed off with the rebrand and new naming rights, the biggest takeaway was this:

A company that made it's fortunes off of selling fax machines and printer paper, is about to be replaced on this building by a company that sells BTC and DeFi opportunities...

If this doesn't cement to everyone how MASSIVE this news truly is, I'm not sure what else you could ever need?

Timing.

It's a crazy thing...

A few years ago, a move like this would have been thrown under the bus and never given a second look. Because only a few short years ago, you and I were the crazy ones involved in this scam called crypto. How here we are, with one of the premier sports arenas in North American sports...Branded with Crypto.com all over it...For the next 20 years LOL

This is a testament to each and every one of us that got involved in this stuff years ago and stayed the course. We all believe, just like Crypto.com does that this stuff represents so much more than just...A new opportunity.

This is life changing stuff. World changing stuff. And I do believe, we're still so early to the game.

Do we see these major crypto company sponsorships become the norm?

I think Crypto.com broke the gates wide open, and while it's not the first major sports arena to be branded by a crypto company in North America (FTX Arena in Miami), it's by far the largest and in a media market like Los Angeles...I think things are about to get crazy!

So while a lot of sports fans will snuff their nose at the new name, I think it represents a fundamental change in how the world views crypto...It's no longer the world of MtGox and BitConnect...It's about a revolution taking place right in front of our eyes!

You make some good points. With the spike in price.

Still 700 million. Crazy for an arena.

FTX paid way less than that.

I do LOVE what it will do for crypto.

170 million or something for FTX!

Just insane numbers but in the long run, I think it's a bargain for them!

I don't know if it's good or bad but I am a bit sad to see the Staples Center change name. I passed by that building a few times when I had to head to LA so I feel a bit sad.

For sports fans, it'll be hard for sure. That place was legendary.

Yea I live in California so it's an iconic place so a lot of people know about it. Changing it's name is definitely going to sound weird to people. Especially if they start calling it like Crypto Stadium.

It was a pretty amazing announcement, to be sure! I cam at it somewhat "backwards" by having someone who knows I'm doing the "crypto thing" send me a copy of the ad with Matt Damon in it... saying "looks like your invisible Internet money is going mainstream!"

It is. It is, indeed...

=^..^=

This is cool. In Nigeria, we have some small crypto trading companies sponsoring events as well. It spreads the reach of knowledge faster than we know. Many people start asking questions.

Have you ever wondered why a fundamentally online industry such as crypto is advertising so extensively in the offline space?

There are crypto adds all over billboards, subway stations, buses, and TV ad slots all over the world. Even here in Israel Crypto.Com is advertising on TV and huge digital billboards. They don't even have a credit card here yet.

It is a bit counterintuitive, but it is the direct result of virtually the entire online advertising industry banning cryptocurrency related ads starting in early 2018.

This is what I am suing Facebook & Google over.

The first legal judgement with Facebook's new Meta name (means "is dead" in Hebrew) on it will establish a prima facie case of a criminal cartel spanning the entire online advertising industry.

I expect it will be delivered before Christmas.

That's an interesting point because I see crypto.com advertised on Brave all the time, yet it's never on the traditional social media platforms that you would expect

I have been a fan of CRO for quite some time now. I think I wrote a post about it a while ago where I was saying who knows, it could be the next BNB. I have a small bag of it. Not as big as I would like especially given the recent price pump. I don't think it matters so much what people call the arena. The media will call it by the proper name and that is what people will hear. We have an amphitheater in our state called DTE Energy Theater. Everyone still calls is Pine Knob though, because that is what it used to be called. No one really cares.

I'm a big fan of the company and everything they are building. I'm a little biased because it's the only crypto card here in Canada lol

I like them too. I have been bit by their limits a couple of times, but I understand they have a lot of overhead for people to be doing microtransactions. I started buying CRO a while ago with the plan of getting one of the cards.

I heard the news but it didn't occur to me until I read your blog post that... "[a] company that made it's fortunes off of selling fax machines and printer paper, is about to be replaced on this building by a company that sells BTC and DeFi opportunities..." Wham! Nice point that really brings home the impact of this change.

Crypto's time is coming. I think most of us here know that. Good for you purchasing at 10 cents, though. I am hoping to buy some in the next bear market (not that I want a bear market to happen).

I'm a CDC guy. I have the card as well. But I'm a bit worried about how they are funding this. Is it a fact that they make one last gasp effort to catch up on Binance. Their exchange platform still isn't there yet. Maybe that money could have been better speak on adding more tools such as Futures to their user interface. I love the whole marketing and all but us CRO bag holders have been in the doldroms at 10 cent for the last few years and were wondering whY this coin that was a working perfectly wasnt heading for €2 plus. Guess this was the reason!
