When Is The Best Time To Post Your Content?

avatar

Part of the struggle with developing a strong content marketing strategy is finding the right time to post content...

That doesn't even begin to look into other factors like...

- Which platform should I use and what time works best for it?
- What day of the week seems to generate the most engagement?
- If I send email, which day of the week gets the most open rates?

And we're just scratching the surface...

I'm going to go against conventional wisdom here and look at content creation from a different angle.

Sure, you can track and analyze until you are blue in the face. And I'm sure after hours of study and careful analysis you have determined that Tuesday at 2pm eastern is the BEST time to press publish on your new blog post...

However, let's look at the big picture when it comes to content creation.

In affiliate marketing, I look at content creation on three fronts;

1. Value and useful content for my readers...Am I delivering?

2. Staying top of mind, making sure they know I'm still here everyday...Delivering :)

3. Creating a portfolio and track record of content that people could stumble upon down the road.

Oh boy, that last one is gold...And unfortunate for the number nerds...Determining the ROI on long term strategy isn't always a clear picture.

You see, this is where data can hurt more than help...

People are so concerned about WHAT TIME to post content instead of focusing on...Just posting content!

Long term, this could translate into more sales, referrals, click throughs and all sorts of awesome results...But it's doesn't tell you 'post this at this time to get this result'.

And I think would be content marketers are always looking for immediate ROI and results within a week, they fail to see the big picture when it comes to their content.

If you are delivering value, and staying top of mind to your audience...Everything else will fall in place!

Trust me, I've done the homework. I've read countless blogs and watched numerous experts tell me the exact time to post my content...But at the end of the day, what I found mattered most was that...I actually posted the content!

You never know who is watching and reading...

I just had a customer of mine tell me that they discovered a blog post I wrote...Over a year ago...And it sparked something in them to take action. They are jumping back into ClickTrackProfit and getting fired up to start learning about affiliate marketing again.

All from a blog post...That's over a year old.

Did it deliver these results because I posted it on a Sunday afternoon at 3pm? Using Twitter to promote it? Did they find the blog because I emailed them and reminded them to read the blog a year ago?

Or...Did they find the blog because...There was content actually posted on it. And there is a track record of content being posted regularly....?

Focus on that...And I think you'll benefit big time from all the effort you put into your content!

Yeah, I agree that the most important thing is consistent output... building a "library" of content that continuously grows. That's one reason I enjoy posting my stuff to STEEM since it's documented on a blockchain that will hopefully be around for a long time coming. Not to mention, you can go back, re-vamp and edit old content, use as a jumping off point for new ideas, combine into a book to publish, etc. :-) The data is interesting but ultimately secondary to the goal whereas creating is primary!

Absolutely. Oh don't get me wrong, I'm sitting in front of the data too...I find it fascinating. But I'm much more worried to do like you said...Build the library of content!

You hit on a great point here early. It's never been the expert in the white lab coat picking the fungus at the second moon of the year for having great herbs. It's the consistent choice and the appropriate season. !invest_vote

LOL Agreed....I see the need for it all, but ya, I prefer the showing up and delivering method :)

I have found that the best time to post is when you get the urge, we are an International community of people who are every now and again, so based on that, whatever you post will get seen by some at some point of time.
I have spent a bit of time analyzing Appics and have actually found a pattern, however that pattern is determined on what you post, so really there is no pattern
What people will read and what they like is always subjective and you may find a subject matter that gets initial attention but most people are not consistent in viewing, .
So the Best time is Now, Now, Now and even Now

Interesting topic. I once thought about that too. But I found that there is no best time to post at all. Just post when you are ready. Have a great weekend. Cheers! !trdo

Agreed. That works really well for me...And I get it, there will always be a 'better time' to do certain things online...But I'd rather just produce content and figure the rest out.

I'm not exactly a content marketer but I am trying to grow an audience and that's pretty much the same thing.

I've come to terms with the fact that there's no perfect time and that quality is more important.

100% Agree! That's all I can work on myself...Worrying about what i'm posting rather than when.

As far as email marketing I like the middle of the day. But posting on the blockchain I don't really think it matters, the main thing is that you post often. I have posted in the middle of the day, in the evening and late at night and I get pretty much the same results.

Yeah for sure...I used to get into debates about best times to email...And I'm with you about middle of the day....But it did nothing but give me a headache LOL

When I saw the title I started thinking: since when does Jon put such a great emphasis on the time of day when he posts? I had to read the post all the way to the end to see that you keep valuing the content and consistency above timing. ;)

Yessir! I'm so much more concerned about what rather than when I post. It's working so far lol

Really great advice Jon, it's way more important to get the content out there rather than analyzing it to shreds trying to hit the right time, and if you are not posting videos to 3speak or Dtube then you can easily schedule the posts if you actually want to play with the time a bit, stay awesome.
