The Curious Case of SPT
It's no secret...I have been making a 'bet' on SPT tokens over the past 6 months or so.
I've been slowly accumulating around 1000 SPT tokens a day from purchases and curation and stacking them up. I have a goal to hit 1,000,000 SPT tokens by the end of the year and am on track to do it...
Like I mentioned, SPT is my 'big bet'.
I feel like this is the least talked-about asset in the Splinterlands eco-system and I have some major concerns about it....
Reason number one, I don't see any plans for more use case after the SPS air drop is finished. One of the sneakier ways I've been able to accumulate SPS over the past 10 months or so has been...Stacking SPT!
But when the air drop is done, what happens to SPT?
Let's be honest, this just doesn't seem to be a priority for the Splinterlands team. They are much more focused on SPS, Voucher and DEC...Which makes complete sense, but one can't help but think...SPT is a diamond in the rough here. And sure, they do their weekly social challenges and encourage people to share battles, heck they may even share a Splintertalk link or two on Twitter...But generally, SPT is like the red-headed step child in the eco-system.
What would I love to see??
Some plans for the tribe and token...I think with the hundreds of thousands of accounts in Splinterlands, if we got a fraction of them using the platform to create content about Splinterlands we'd see even more growth. Splintertalk links being shared around social media would help raise awareness for the game and of course, the content that focuses on it.
And sure, 'blogging' isn't the first thing that comes to mind when you think...Play 2 Earn or gaming in general...However Splintertalk isn't limited to just being a blogging app. Maybe short form content should be encouraged, supported and spoken about a lot more in the coming weeks and months?
I'm not sure exactly how to tackle it, but I can't help but think...It's such an awesome community and adds so much value to Splinterlands.

Yea jon, I totally agree with you.
Im a HUGE backseat driver/monday morning quarter back, and whenever I see them doing the weekly AMA's or the other outreach efforts they peform.. I constantly find instances where im thinking to myself they are missing or blatantly avoiding opportunities to talk about the "Tokenized social media" aspect of the ecosystem.
Now that I've found out about blockchain social media, it is so depressing to be on youtube and see all of these bustling communities spending their time having their data mined, and be subjected to forced adds.
It's amazing how this is the case...I guess it's for reach and marketing projects but I would think, blockchain based projects / creators would flock to...Blockchain based social media.

Agreed, It is crazy they don't push this more, I would like to see short form on hive.
Maybe we need to get in the AMA and ask more about SPT plans after airdrop?
Sharing battles, talking about cards more, rentals, SPS...You name it, it would have a thriving community to plug right into with SPT.
Im going for the top spot lol. Im in the top few have a few million tokens took a bit to buy them without moving the market. Im going to be using SPT for my new venture which may sound impossible for ppl who do not know what I do but I am starting the first round to my investment club once the documents are finsiehd but this one will be free when it comes to your equity which will be $1,500 which will be real dollars when you do a few bank account referrals so that we both earn 1,000. The GP team takes 500 and gives 500 to the person along with 1,000 from the sign up bonus. You must use are link site which will have hundreds of are refferral codes as a extra way to make money as well. I am on track for over 100K my self this year just doing that lol. Been stopping lately bc I am putting the website together and getting the fund set up along with moving. So been a bit slow.

I will be starting the outpost on TribalDex soon and we will be a Splinterlands Focused Investment Club and will also be competitive and play the game to win as well as take advantage of guilds and all that. Plus can buy more validator nodes and possibly get a top validator and multiple licenses like 10-20 or more.

You know? I've been seeing the !PGM project adding tokens to their own token tipper, like SBT, STARBITS and such. I don't know if this would be possible, but we could get SPT in addition to !CTP with the tipper! I don't know, it's just a silly idea! Thank you for bring this up!!!

I think use case would drive the demand for SPT. That's what I would love to know...If they have plans for it!
Im thinking someone does I mean there are things developing like the NFT market which if more ppl come in will probably pick up. Plus it is still so low still that you can scoop alot up cheap and get the 20 million to vote. Need another 20K I think to get it.

I try to stay on top of a good bit of what Splinterlands has going on and it's true they never talk about the SPT token at all. It would be great if they would do something with it to make it spendable or the value go up in some way. I think they have so much going on that this is one of the things that is slipping through the cracks.
Use it for in game purchases....Easy use case and would add a ton of value, but they wanna focus on DEC only.

I definitely share your concerns for the token once the SPS airdrop is finished. Producing SPS is definitely the most "useful use case" for the token. I believe that if the team doesn't come with an idea for the token, the price will go down before the airdrop ends because people might want to get out before everybody else...
That's my biggest concern. So I'm stuck between going hard to get my 1 million SPT or protecting myself because there seems to be crickets from the dev team.

I have been asking the Splinterlands team about SPT for the past three years in AMAs and the common answer is "It is not on our current road map". They actually made three changes over time but none were directly for SPT but came from the ecosystem affecting SPT. These were the new Outpost format, the NFT creation and the inclusion of SPT in the SPS airdrop. When the airdrop is over, SPT will be back to square. I don't expect anything for a while after that. Eventually, hopefully, they will add better use-cases. One would be to include the fanart NFTs as skins for the game. This was discussed a few times. But I don't dare to ask anymore because each time I do in a Town Hall, I can literally hear the teams eyes rolling in their sockets.
Damn.
That sucks. This is just such a powerful tool for this community, I really do hope they see that and continue to build it.

I have the same vision, hence my still massive stake in SPT. In the end, the Splinterlands team has always delivered. It just might take a while longer for this one. Boss-Monster-style. ;-)

I've been doing the same. My daily Hive income is less than yours, so I'm only buying 500 SPT per day, but same idea.
I don't really see much changing with SPT after the SPS airdrop ends. People will still blog a lot here, so I don't think demand will lessen any. You get more airdrop points for other assets, so I would be surprised if anyone is buying SPT just for the airdrop and therefore I wouldn't expect any dumping after the airdrop ends.
The more I blog here, the more I think this is the best of the tribes. The hyperfocus here around this one game makes this a very engaged community. LEO comes close, but there is much more energy and involvement here. That alone makes SPT a big win, I think.

People love games. It's a natural match to have a place where they can talk about it more.
Maybe a 'forum' structure would help it?
I've often thought a Reddit-clone would do really well on Hive.
My feeling is, at some point, the token will have value in the game. It may take a while, but there has to be some kind of utility for it - I have just made a decision to start stacking some - going to aim for 100,000. I hope this works out for the best too!
