Personal Finance: A Dive Into Quality Of Life

IMG_20201004_190131-01-01.jpeg

One of the things that a lot of people do not put into cognizance is that quality health is essential in having the might to make money as well as utilizing the money well and even being available to enjoy the quality life that working and saving has essentially provided. This is why, quality of life is the fulfillment and satisfaction derived from a job that accords a person the balanced time to take care of the other non-financial aspects of their lives.

A lot of people feel that the busier they are, the more money they can make and hence the more satisfaction they can attain, but this isn't always true. One of the many qualities of a job to ascertaining how good it can be, is not just calculating how much you can earn per month, quarterly or even annually.

It's also about looking at the things we can actually go on to achieve the times, we're off the job, either on breaks, time off, or even holidays. One of the major aspect of job seeking is always about how monetarily good it can be, a lot of people forget that a good job is mostly the one that balances the money and quality of time it should afford one.

One of the many advantages of having a job that affords one quality time is that it can make it easier to own a different stream of Income. Now, this isn't the only aspect. Lagos, Nigeria is one of the most competitive places in the world and the high rate or likely of death to a struggling person is often very high.

So many people would take life-threatening risk rather than settle for a much safer job because they've come up with a self-analysis that the money is worth the risk. They feel that they're healthy enough and this is the only factor that's require to accrue such risks.

In actual sense, this is a no-brainer, this is because no one can predict the unforeseen circumstances that comes with health hazards, it is a job decreases the quality of one's life while providing more money, it's essential to understand, you actually need a "present" to take care of "futuristic" expenditures.

In a country with constant increase in the rate of inflation, people typically find themselves requiring more money to stay afloat, afford essential commodities and even foot their wants to some certain extent. For someone who has taught literature to high school students in the past, I often saw extended hours on the job to be the only way to take care of expenses and even save.

However, this limited my time in respite to how long I can take a walk, read a book, rest and even offered my micro gigs on the Internet, back in the days. To many, without money, there isn't a means to actually fund the quality of their lives, but the truth is that when people lived their lives making all the Money, it becomes difficult to understand that quality of life is what gives more vibrancy to money in totality.

Most countries in Africa have the poorest quality of lives. In fact, most Africans I've met have always reiterated that spending time idly to read a book, good on a date and all is tantamount to time wastage and can increase the possibility of crime and this is because people proportionally place a singular value on time; Money.

A lot of jobs do not consider the "off-the-job" activities of their workers, and they've failed to realize that these activities increases the effectiveness or functionalities of their workers in general. Mostly, private institutions are often guilty of this. They try as much as possible to squeeze time off their workers hands, thinking it's the major way to actually get the value from the salaries they're actually paying.

However, many organizations fail to understand that a quality life regularly increases passion for the job. One of the reasons why a lot of people are on the job is because they're needy, they have to hold onto the job, so they wouldn't be evicted from the houses because of owing rents and so many other things too and not really because they actually have passion for the job.

Quality of life affects government sectors and also influence the product quality which firms and company frequently offers and this is why it's Important to enjoy other non-financial dividends that comes with a job because one needs this to actually thrive and live well.

There are many factors to quality of life and this are, fulfillment, safety, good physical health condition, fair rules and a good family relationships. Nevertheless, if a job actually takes away any of these, irrespective of how much it offers, it's Important to understand that there might be uncertain present and futuristic repercussions.

So many countries have worked towards achieving quality of life for their citizens. As government and organizations, it's often Important to see beyond money in the metrics of achievements for individual workers. On the contrary, many companies sack their pregnant and sick workers because there are options due to the unemployment.

However, it's Important to note that before anyone can eschew monetary value to their work place, they have to be "whole" and balanced in so many aspects of life. In reality, a person can individually work towards achieving quality of life, because this is essentially how to even live well, irrespective of the added advantage that money can offer.

While i was reading this, my mind kept going to the fact that I have an interview on Monday and the job is literally time consuming. Having read this, I have still decided to go for the interview but I don't think i would actually take the job because, I have dealt in that line of work and while the cash can take care of various things in my life, my mental state is really important to handle the other aspects of my life. Thank you for sharing.

I hope that you put your health first before the money, beloved @deraaa.

Health is wealth, at least that's what they say.

Sometimes we can't help but put the money first, I did it for so many years and I nearly paid dearly.

Well, I worked in a place like this for seven years that actually took away a lot of my time and today I can categorically tell you that I'm still suffering the consequence of being in that job.
Quality of life is very essential, when we make money without deriving fulfilment from spending it, then what is the essence? I specifically believe that you should check out the job, if it wouldn't be too impactful on your quality of life then you should take it.

I always weigh these factors before doing any job. Currently the place I work is starting to go against these factors, which is stressing me mentally. Right now I’m planning on leaving there.

In life, what is the use of having a means of earning when you won’t have a quality life and peace of mind.

I love reading your post, because they make so much sense.🙂

Thanks a whole lot, they're years of experience which I've come to really find applicable with the blockchain, in earnest, quality of life is really important, Nevertheless, in a place like lagos we often find it very difficult to attain the right quality of life, because of the excessive competitive nature of the state. I trust you'll make the right decisons pertaining that job.

One of the reasons I stuck to Ibadan. Ti some extent it is turning into a Lagos on its own. But the hustles isn't as deadly as Lag.

I recently met a friend here in Abuja and I dread her job as a teacher already. The school had close for the children but not for the teachers. They keep going to school to record this or that. Most times to do nothing. Just sit all day wilding away time that could be productively used elsewhere.

The only motivation for her is that she needs to show up in school everyday until the end of the month so that her salary doesn't get cut off in half. 😤

What the heck? I usually thought, why can't the management pay them the complete fees and send them home. I can already imagine that school will be back in session soon.

This means once they get their salary by month end, they won't even have time to rest with their family and enjoy it. They will have to start showing up in school for the children (of course the children needs to be taught)

This is so disheartening, really.

One thing is, the owner of that school actually feels that allowing them go home before month end would be thievery, hence they have to show up in school everyday. This is the definition of, deserve what you earn
Most private sectors does this. Eventually it's something that's rampant in the country. They want to make people suffer for every cent they earn which is very disturbing and pathetic.

Of course, I felt this in my bones too. Such low level thinking 😔

Seriously, our mentality needs some high level of screwing. Gosh.... Pathetic 😡

It's why people are looking for options, if the country was way better, so many of us might have been in better places, but I guess it's what it is.

It is what it is oooo. Those options include traveling abroad and investing time and energy in cryptocurrency, right?

Not really, owning a flourishing real-time business in Nigeria can also be viable, this is my plan for the short run because a whole lot of things about crypto and sustenability is a hoax. Look around people seem to be jumping to safety.

At this point, I think most people work because they want the money and not really out of passion. Maybe it's because we need the money to survive and our entertainment would probably just be whatever we spend on our money on. It's why I like games and I never minded it. In a way I am a little more passionate about games then I am about my own job

Well you're right, However there are consequences for working for just the money, a lot of people do not know their limits and this can be problematic to one's quality of living.

Quality of live is very important, there is no amount of money you have without putting some thing in place is dangerous, put the quality of your life first before thinking about what money can offer.

Well.. Its the peoples ideology that matter here .. If they think survival it is money that comes to mind first because the pressures seem to be quieted by that.

I would say to rather abstain from heaving up unnecessary pressures, curb expenditure. Increase assets and finding a breathing space.. Even if you re working.

Truly time is money, time mines money. Thats if you use it well.

If you devote all of it to one job, you will be selling your time to other person to mine his money and hence only get paid according to the bosses valuations of what your time deserves, of course, we all know that no one can adequately do that.

My spare time I use on hive is a superb example, I could never earn that much in my practice and the the short period. I was shocked when I considered it. This revealed a lot about how much I can put in my time and made me grateful for having managed to diversify my time all along.

Thanks for the post Chief @josedicus

As usually
An excellent one.

The thing I could get from this is

  1. There are jobs that will take your time, your duty is to find how you can have time despite that.

  2. Invest consistently till you are able to do without that job.

  3. Delegate

Companies in Africa and some asian companies in Nigeria do not pay attention to quality of life and that's where they get it totally wrong.

Health is a fundamental part of the growth of an organization.

A lot of people are having mental health issues due to their work and hence productivity declines

These are the two continents that are majorly affected if you ask me, it's definitely because of how there's too much labour and workforce but limited opportunities, so these are actually abused to some certain extent.

There's a lot of wisdom in this post @josediccus, money is certainly not the answer to all prayers. I retired early because the job I had (one that I used to love dearly) became a whole different scenario and it was ruining my peace and happiness.
Now I can relax and be happy to wake each morning instead of that awful dread to go in to work and suffer through another day.
You can see where people who are struggling to make ends meet and feed their family are trapped by their jobs and the requirement to fulfill basic needs. I feel for everyone struggling in today's economy!
What I don't understand is the wealthy person, who has more than enough for their needs, yet spends every waking moment trying to make more. Letting the need for more and more wealth consume their lives.

This problem is as old as time itself. Those with money try to get those without to do as much work as possible for the least amount of money as possible.
This creates hardships for an entire class of people that is tolerated as a societal standard.
For example, in the USA everyone is screaming for a fair wage of $15 to $20 an hour for unskilled entry-level jobs. These very same people have no problem with buying products created in sweat shops where the people are working for substandard wages.

True fact.. for me I would never suggest someone to do or work for a company because at the long run if one is not determined, they will make you less useful for yourself and extract all the good brains you have and make you use it for them..
