The Fear Of Risk & The Illusion Of Stability

I have a friend who was always wary of encountering accidents that might keep him sidelined for a long time, unable to work thereby not being able to make money. Of course, he feared the consequences of being bedridden, being broke, and unable to fend for himself, thus making him dependent on the goodwill of others to survive.

Being dependent on the goodwill of others is what no one should have to face because this is when you'll discover the elasticity limit of even the people who claim to be there. Physical Capacity guarantees a level of financial capability.

Fitness can be underated unjustly

When a man is fit to work, there's a possibility that he'll have a functional family, but when the reverse becomes the case, it'll only take a little time to put his family in disarray.

While it's not proper to judge people's loyalty with their elasticity limit, it's also important to understand that whatever attitude people show you when cannot make money or when you're not physically fit to challenge for job opportunities, that's part of who they are even if challenging financial situations can unsettle even the best of people. So people mostly try to avoid risky situations that make it difficult for them to compete in life.

Living For Money, Inevitable?

But then, we have to eat, pay the bills, and live the life we've been given and these things are not free, so some of the risks we initially avoid because of the danger are the things we end up doing because it's either that or we live in deprivation.

As for this person I spoke about, this fear has made him very careful, a little bit thoughtful, and more apt in making safety decisions, this is very good, but it'll limit his ability to do things out of the box, limit him in taking the potential risks or making some decisions that might change his life forever. Now I used the word "might" because in life, I believe there's no safety or danger, our true definition of these words is how we perceive reality to be.

IMG_192801.jpeg

Time might be too short to define how massive reality is...

So, it is (reality) bigger than how we reckon it and sometimes what we deem to be safe, might be checkmate. While safety seems to be paramount, sometimes we make mistakes in accurately defining what is risky and what is safe.

Nevertheless, our ability to express our freedom is one of the most important aspects there are to us. This is because it can determine how far we can build our dreams. A lot of people are familiar with mental limitations, but the pain that comes with physical limitations is even bigger.

Living With Limitations

I've been struggling with ill health for the past two weeks, can't eat, and mostly can't sleep. The weather seems to make it worse, cold blisters have broken my lips, sad to become an eye sore in just a matter of one week and I can't even withdraw money to buy extra medicine and food because there's no currency anywhere.

These limitations are external and internal. When you battle limitations from all sides of life, this is when you begin to understand the fear of people who never even wish wealth on themselves, but the capacity to be free from physical limitation. Another thing is that something such as poverty is also mentally limiting.

The Default Safety Nature We Have.

When people have lived in lack and uncertainty and they're exposed to abundance a little bit, the first thing they do is try and secure tomorrow, forgetting that next week or next month needs securing too. They find it difficult to risk tomorrow in other to secure next week, this means they're always momentarily choosing tomorrow because they cannot live in the uncertainty of tomorrow, because they're after the future.

This mindset dwells in people who see crypto as a means to an end. They see danger whenever they smell volatility, and instead of finding stable ways to fix this, they create cash-out situations, conjuring their weak hands which eventually become weak minds.... (to be contd)

Depending on others goodwill ain't a Good thing at all when a person is healthy and have mind... It's better to take risk, making mistake is inevitable but can be improved or learned from it.

Most of time person don't make any decisions just because of fear and they left behind.

Wish you quick recovery and health bro... Didn't know you had this blister thing.... It is painful experience.

You're on point, even I get afraid of volatility sometimes and stay in sidelines while others who knows a way make more.

Fear is a definitive factor and sometimes we cannot fault ourselves for letting it control us.

It's quite a painful thing, although it's not the first time. I thought I won't experience it for a very long time.

Risk is becoming the new "safe", as what has always been considered safe no longer has much stability anymore. It's a risk not to risk! 😎

Well as the day goes by, I guess risk becomes inevitable, as this inevitably make us decide to choose what is what.

I can relate to this safety mechanism on so many levels, apart from financial aspects. I joke with myself mentally as best in giving up, that's really uncool but I've observed this safety thingy has made me drop things rather than pursue them. One thing I've observed to be helpful is studying patterns. Patterns of greatness and wealth, studying people who have achieved a level we want to acquaint us with what to expect and that does a lot to the mindset.

I'm so sorry about your health, I didn't know it's been going on for that long, this weather sure isn't helping. God grant you speedy recovery. Get well soonest ❤

Thank you. Exactly the point, many people fail to study the process. Rather they applaud the outcome, summarize the surface processes and dive into similar ventures with eventual collapse or waste of efforts.
We must learn and appreciate the integrities of the process/pattern of wealth creation and sustenance

I also wouldn't want to depend on others as well and I prefer to have more control over my wealth. I hope things get better for you soon and I think you will be fine with your current mindset.

Thank you, I think due to some prevalent situation, sometimes I find myself being subconsciously dependent, nevertheless, there's nothing that's not possible with change

It's an uncomfortable spot to find oneself when you're dependent on others even if it's momentarily. I always strive to have the upper hand and be 'free' to do whatever I need to do. But sometimes circumstances seem to be beyond our control forcing these limitations on us making us deal with them. I think the lesson is we don't/can't be in control all the time but the experience sucks tbh.

Sorry about your health, I hope you're recuperating well.
I believe coming out of poverty or lack should be done discreetly. When an individual had access to money or life changing situations, people around help to drag such persons down by their own wants. They tend to see the upcoming individual as a means to their own wealth rather than seeking out their own means.
Also as you said, situations can spur an individual to seek out wealth.

Those that also learnt the hard way, took their time to come out of hardship are usually careful spending (the wise ones) though some have the propensity to display affluence at a too early stage.

Thank you for sharing

Poverty in itself isn't bad, sometimes I just see it as the ground zero that a lot of people come from by default. It comes with it's own positives and sometimes the lessons we learn from it helps us on our way up.

Thanks for the well wishes.

A failure to take risks as much as it might protect you, leaves you missing out on a lot of potential huge wins. The biggest rewards come with the biggest risks after all.

I can't even withdraw money to buy extra medicine and food because there's no currency anywhere.

Sorry about the situation, man. I can’t stress enough how said the current Nigerian economic crisis is. I’m hoping that the nearing elections will turn things around for good.

The situation in Nigeria is so bad, it feels like we're back in the middle age. Rioting, Killing, no money, no means of exchange, no transaction, basically online money system has crashed and no physical fiat as well. Being ill in such a system is crazy. Thanks for the well wishes.

Honestly, what really confuses me is how the online money system crashed. How does that happen? Because I would think that in a situation like this where physical cash is hard to come buy, P2P trades can easily provide e-cash to at least handle your basic needs.

There's no p2p trade, Crypto is completely banned in Nigeria. There's no money either physical or online transaction. The Nigerian Money system has shut down. It's like the zombie apocalypse in Nigeria now.

In economics, there's what we called autonomous consumptions. You know, even without earning salary or despite having limitation that makes one not fit to work, one must still consume.

Also as you've stated, I believe it is better to take risk, make the mistake and correct it rather than missing out on the opportunity presented. And besides, taking risk does not only guarantee failure. It's a 50/50 something.

Sorry about your health though. Hope it's getting better.

You're right, taking risk doesn't always guarantee failure, but you see, when we're uncertain, it creates the illusion that we're most likely going to fail, but most of us take risks because, it's the only option, else we end up facing deprivation.

Thanks for the well wishes

You make an excellent point about how the fear of risk can often hold people back from pursuing their goals and dreams. It's true that taking risks can be daunting and uncomfortable, but it's often the only way to achieve significant growth and success.
