The Illusion Of Freedom: What Control Do You Have?

We live in a world where the concept of freedom blinds us to exploitation. We like to flout the word "free" when in reality, no one is ever truly free and nothing is ever free. It's either we're paying knowingly or we're paying unknowingly. Some of the times the system makes us pay knowingly because we tend to calculate bigger losses and ignore smaller losses not knowing that smaller losses are like streams that form an ocean.

Some of the systems that steal from us are banks, but because the aura they bring indicates an all-round safety is why we often ignore their legal thievery. Banks offer insurance, but their terms and conditions make it almost impossible to pay you for any loss you incur, they offer saving schemes to protect your future, and they sell this appeal with fear and uncertainty.

The Illusion Of Safety

This blinds you to other viable ways of taking financial measures, because their voice is legal and strong, back by the government, we often fail to instill a bird-like view into their practices to review their daylight robbery. Some people are not even cognisant of this thievery and this is because a lot of them do not know that the system they're in is a bigger thief than the underlying scams around them.

One thing you must understand is that they're not necessarily, they're compulsory. We need what they offer for online banking, money transfer, and other financial transactions, meaning that even if we're conscious of what they truly are, there's still the Inevitability of using them, what they offer and everything because there's no freedom to choose something else.

When people are truly free, they'll make the ultimate choices that aren't tethered to the profit of anyone

But then

.....this isn't how the world works. People cannot truly make their own choices, sometimes we think our choices are ours, but there are third parties involved that prune our choices and tilt our decisions, giving them a little nudge in such a way that it doesn't benefit only us.

Government is another parastatals that bring the illusion of freedom. First of all, democracy is a mirage and this is because people are not thinking clearly or seeing the bigger picture. In third-world countries, for the system to change, the younger generation would need to seize power.

Give Today, Steal The Future

Rather than having the illusional direction of choosing between a raccoon and a tiger, more like having the freedom to either implode or to further implode. Choices are free but people are incentivized to sell their future by being emotionally appealed to. This is a way to legally steal from people.

Stealing a better future from people that deserve to be better governed is what happens a lot in third-world countries and because politics is more sentimental in places like this, people sell the only power they truly have because of ignorance and poverty. This is why being conscious can be revealing, being conscious is seeing freedom, and the inability to be totally free, especially in a system that exploits people for fun.

The Freedom Of Will

Advertising is another system that exploits. We must understand that the world is rewired for profiteering, so no one's selling us a concept, an idea, or a product that will solely be for our benefit, however, if they're benefiting while we're benefiting, then this is healthy. However, there has to be a balance.

The money we have is an identity of our hard work, irrespective of the fact that we sometimes need guidance on how to spend them, it's important to understand that if this guidance isn't tailored to our advantages, then it's better to spend it foolishly howbeit freely because, at the end of the day, we're the ones that deal with the effects of our choices. Advertising tilts our knowledge to a narrower perspective, just like how betting and gambling ads and programs can be shown on TV but crypto cannot.

Tethered To The Flow Of Advertising

Why not?

While people feel they have the choice to freely watch what they want, they're systematically tied to a series of choices, without the offer to expand beyond this.
We have to understand that freedom is mostly a concept in the mind, in a broader perspective, it's hardly obtainable. However, this doesn't mean we should be tailored to seek only what's available to us.

financial freedom is one of the toughest things out there and people aren't seeking it enough, hence it continuously seems illusive. This means people have to break bounds, in the quest to align the system properly, limiting its influence, especially in the things we should know and what we shouldn't. It's difficult, especially since the only to truly bring change is through revolution, force, and pressure.

Even economic stability is sometimes just an illusion. It takes just a couple of random bad events to make things spiral out of control as we’ve seen with many world economies.

Also, even though financial security is hard to achieve, it tends to provide actual freedom. The wealthy and affluent don’t appear to be tied down by these mirages and they seem to have actual freedom. I wouldn’t know for sure though, I’m not wealthy… yet!
Great post.

COVID has unsettled a lot of stability and the illusion it has created overtime. Actually freedom is in financial freedom like you've mentioned, but what about the freedom to actually spend these money at will? We're always Influenced one way or another.

Very very true. One would argue though that there will always be an elite of the elite that rules don’t apply to. I remember someone saying that money might not solve a problem, but more money can😂😂
The truth is there will always be restrictions that we may not even realise are there in the first place.

This was a great post by the way, very eye opening.

There is sadly really no freedom unless you're a hermit living in an offgrid cabin out in the woods, completely separated from the rest of the world. And even then, there are probably ways in which that freedom is controlled.

In the modern world we have built, all freedom is "conditional," in some way. I can hope for financial dreedom one of these years... but I fear it may always remain just a dream, no matter how hard I work.

Great post!

Hahaha, even in a off-grid cabin away from the innovations of the world, one might still even doubt if they're truly free because of the mental ties and the influence of the real world on the mind, sometimes it's difficult to be rid of them.
As you've said all freedom in the modern world is conditional, it has its limit and this is because one way or another, the world is tied to the big bad wolves at the helm of affair. But then, we like to think we're completely free, it's liberating to feel that way.

Financial freedom is tough and I agree that there aren't enough people aiming for it. It makes me wonder why people don't consider it as important because it allows people to have more freedom with their choices. I just think programs like social security aren't as full proof as we think they are. It basically just asks the people working today to pay off the people in the past and the cycle continues but it doesn't work out. After all, they don't really have enough money without the government backstopping them.

Well, Freedom whatsoever is difficult and I think this is because it's hard to be free to an extent even when we cannot fully say that we're free to a extent. As for financial freedom, I think it's harder as well.

Amazing post and a realistic view of the world. It's so practical that we are experiencing it in Ghana. We are on the verge of experiencing hyperinflation due to misgovernance. We have given all authority to the politicians, who are all toiling with our life. Education from Nursery to Senior High School is free in Ghana. There is a national health insurance scheme which is highly subsidised by the Government and as such premium healthcare cannot be ensured. In the want for free SHS, our education system is collapsing along with our economy. The Government isn't able to afford all these expenditures and as such has to borrow from outside of which we have overborrowed. Free things are always dangerous.

I used to think Ghana was better than Nigeria and I was right anyways, the reason is that Nigeria suffers 100x of what Ghana is going through. But at the end of the day I feel it's an African thing in general.

Very true. Our leaders get corrupted before they assume positions. That's what trickles down and lead to greed of the entire country

Well said!

This made me realize that the concept of financially freedom is more than just about being financially free but also more freedom. Being more free to choose and would not be easily forced to take money being waved in front of us to do something we really don't want.

Well, a lot of people would definitely take money waved in front of them and this is because of that control factor that money brings. But eventually, financial freedom is just one way to actually take back Control of our lives.

Everything you wrote here is on point, and I'd say that, although third-world countries like yours and mine are particularly affected by the lack of options to choose from, we're also in unique positions to take advantage of flaws in the system precisely because it works so poorly in our contexts. I've found that people in developed, highly industrialized nations take a lot more for granted and make stronger assumptions about their own freedom.

From the point of view of self-awareness, freedom is the result of accepting the rules of the Universe and taking responsible, conscious advantage of them instead of trying to resist them. Extrapolated to our material reality, this means that we can only work WITH the system rather than trying to subvert or change it.
