For the past three days, we have seen the reappearance of an old format of fraudulent activities, which involves asking users to vote for Leofinance witness, and earn 100 Hive and 200 LEO.

My first encounter with this type of scam was with @fatherfaith account. When I saw the comment on my post, I knew that such a post is not just too good to be real but that Hive is not structured in such a way. It was sad that many newbies fell prey to these greedy individuals. It is more annoying to see that these scammers are still operating on Hive. Could it be that the decentralized nature of Hive has made it difficult for fraudulent accounts to be stopped? Can't there be any other ways to stop these activities once discovered?. Am new to Hive and as such, I may not be knowledgeable to answer the above questions. I hope the likes of @trostparadox and other users who have been long on Hive can contribute to the question.

One thing I want to share through this post is the fact that there is no free cake on the internet. Even if you are new to Hive, your sense of reasoning should make you see nothing but a scamming scheme with any promotion coming from non-official accounts. Again, 100 Hive is above $100, there is no way a community will pay such an amount just for you to vote. @leofinance is one of the popular communities on Hive with a large number of users, they don't need to pay for their users to vote for them, am certain that the users will willingly vote. In case there is any promotion, they will use their official announcement account to do so.

The only way you can earn passive income on Hive is by following the curation trail and delegating your Hive engine tokens to respective curation projects.
Outside this, you are to work for the reward you are to earn. I hope these messages get to all newbies on Hive. Let's stop enriching these scammers because of our greed.

Just a few tips to help your journey on Hive:

Avoid clicking any link that looks suspicious; clicking such links alone can install malware on your phone.

When an offer is too good to real, it is mostly not real; there is no free money on the internet.

Know the type of permission you give to apps that you install on your phone, especially when you have your keys on the phone.

Any website or community that demands the use of your master keys should be avoided if possible.

Let us also report any suspicious accounts, comments, or posts. Let's protect this wonderful community from scammers.
To all the hackers here, Karma will surely visit your guys at the appointed time, since you have said NO to all the various legit ways to make money on the internet. No matter how much you make, you guys can never be satiated because money gotten from illegal means can never satisfy anyone.

The only way you can earn free money on Hive is by following the curation trail and delegating your Hive engine tokens to respective curation projects.

That is not free money as you need a stake for that, otherwise would be worth zero. And even with a stake, you need to do the math which one is profitable, follow curation trails, delegate to different projects or curate yourself. So there's no free money.

Lol. You are right. Thanks for your contribution buddy. Wanted to say passive money. I will edit and perhaps add your contribution to it. Hope you won't sue me for copyright?

It's really sad to see that these scam accounts are still active, I don't click on any link I see.

The account you show above was stolen from a legitimate user (see her post about that here) and is now being used to promote scams.

She is trying to recover her account, but her account was created during the Steem days and the recover option requires action by folks who may be completely unreachable.

Probably all of the accounts, which post the scam comments mentioned in the post are all stolen (I think this, because they all post the same scam message). This is the really sad part.

Yes, this means that you should be very careful, even when the post originates from an accountholder you know and trust.

I am always careful. Unfortunately many people are not. Sad to see more and more accounts getting hacked.

Yeah. I figured this is the case as the recovery account is "steem". I guess this brings up another question.

Can it be possible for other users who have their recovery account as Steem change it to another account , so as to avoid such incidence ?

Yes, @arcange has created a relatively simple way to do that.

Here is the post explaining that.

Awesome. I think some people may not be aware of such an opportunity. Perhaps, I will write a short post and backlink it to the post. Nevertheless, any account having steem as a recovery account is an old account and I believe the person should by now have changed his recovery account from steem

Hi @joseph23,

I can echo your sentiment and I do have some ideas for how a feedback mechanism can be built so that we can preserve the friendly social environment we are all striving towards here on Hive... But that's for an UP and coming post that's currently in the works... (I wokeUP at 5am and it was there on the tip of my brain so I started typing.)

I have been taking a very careful look into what is being done about issues like this one... and I am beginning to understand the why behind those actions. But now it is UP to all of us to pioneer new and better HOW's to accomplish these ends.

It's all about the new and better ways to human! That's HOW we override the base natures that want to take over and replace the work ethics that should be on display here on the blockchain.

P.S. I was wondering if you might shed some more light on the individual @fatherfaith mentioned in this post seeing as you have also taken it UPon yourself to tag him in this post. I'm curious to hear more about what he has been doing here on Hive. I have to say... that buying votes in any society should be frowned UPon as it corrupts the democratic freedom in any system of governance. Even if the money IS there... it's still an example of disingenuous social behaviour... SO! That is why I was inquire for more information about this individual. Thank you!

P.S.S. By the way! Your post has been Targeted by @Comet.Ranker! I believe that this is an important topic and since you are wanting to learn more about it... I thought there might be others wondering about this as well! HeadsUP! INCOMING!!!

I don't know him very much but I am certain he has been on Hive for more than four years. I saw his comment on my post which I suspected to contain a phishing link.
I believe this can happen to anyone.
Seems he has gotten back his account.

Oh. I think I understand what you mean. His account was attacked because of a link that he clicked on?
