My hive Introduction post and what I do best

First of all, a big thank you to @attentionneeded for telling me about hive and @readthisplease for his lectures on what the community is all about and how to go about it.

My Life

j1.jpeg

My name is Joy Dukeson. I graduated in the department of English Language and Communication studies from the prestigious Federal University Otuoke, Bayelsa State. Nigeria. I am a broadcast journalist as well as a Nollywood actor. I am married and expecting my first child pretty soon. Super excited to know that I will be called mum by my own flesh and blood. I am nervous and eager to see my child soon.

Marriage

Being a wife especially in Africa isn't an easy responsibility. I am lucky to be married to a domesticated man who doesn't let his ego and the normal African mentality of " a man is the head of the home and as such should sit and cross his legs while his wife do all the house chores alone whether or not she is tired". My husband helps me a lot in the kitchen and guesses what? He is the better cook. Oh yes! My husband makes finger-licking meals (maybe that's one of the things that attracted me to him). He is open to communication despite our huge age gap. He listens to me and we have an honest conversation all the time. Above all, he is damn cute... What? Like is there a man that can be this cute? Nature can be unfair at times. Ladies are supposed to be super cute right? Oh well, I am lucky I would say.

Looking back to the first day I met him, he was just a casual young man whom I didn't find very attractive at first. He was just like every other guy i always meet. He chased me for two years. I was quite pretty then and of course, I still am. I know I changed a bit. Thanks to Pregnancy hormones. However, I am still a baby girl for life and will always be. Well back to my story, I wasn't sure if I wanted to hang around with him because to me, he wasn't serious. Like how can you not call me for days or even text? Are you kidding me?

Communication for me is a must. You must talk to me every day and I mean it. Fast forward to 2020, I am sure he got the memo and started keeping up with me. We started talking often and I realized he was the one. I accepted and this time, he didn't let go. I am glad I made the decision to marry him. My husband @snowflakesduke is the best man in the whole world.

Work

j2.jpeg

Like I said earlier, I am a broadcast journalist. I host shows, cover red carpets, as well as cast news and I love acting too. Acting is my first love. I had grown to love acting even as a kid.

Unfortunately, I couldn't study theatre arts at the time I was ready to get into the university because my father didn't approve of it. A lot of parents back in the day didn't want their children especially their daughters to act because they felt it was a job for prostitutes. I had no choice but to choose English and communication studies as a course which I am grateful I did. Being an anchor is not an easy job for me or anyone because of the stress. From researching your topics to talking with the guests before a shoot to ensure they understand the topic to be discussed. Some even want to know the questions before time so they can read ahead. What can you do? You have to oblige because you need to have a great show. I have had guests who after sensing the topics, come on the show and don’t even know what to say anymore.

j4.jpeg
Going through that road can be annoying sometimes. You have to start all over again, to make them relaxed first by bringing up random discussions and asking them what can be done to make them relax as well. Preparing for a show can be tasking sometimes. And you need a lot of patience. Sometimes the guests do not show up at the call time, you have to wait for them to show up. Sometimes the weather wouldn't let you record especially when it's raining cat and dog.

I once had a guest who was drenched on his way to the studio. We had to wait almost the whole day for his cloth to dry a bit. We waited for more than 4 hours. My cameraman had to give him his own shirt so we can shoot. It was funny that day. I laughed so hard when my guest obliged the suggestion. Just like they say, things do not usually go as planned. Always have a plan B. Have I had bad days at work? Yes of course. Just like I said, I have learned to have a plan B. One time an invited guest didn't show up and I needed to have content to post. Guess what I did? I got on the show myself.

When I watched what I did, oh well it was amazing. I poured out my heart and talked so well on the topic. One time I recorded about four episodes and the editor didn't copy the files. I was so angry at him. It took me some energy to invite those guests and calling them again was a huge task. I had to plead to them. Some came back while others were indisposed. I went in search of new persons to fill up. It wasn’t easy at all. My producer had to get a new hard drive to copy files so as to avoid a reoccurrence. In all, I would say life has really taught me to be strong.

Right now, I can jump on anything and make the best out of it. Am I happy as a broadcast journalist, yes, of course, I am happy? In fact, my job has helped me in terms of versatility. I have knowledge of almost every field now. I would say I have a perfect life, a perfect home, and a perfect career.
And again another big thank you to @attentionneeded and @readthisplease and also my husband @snowflakesduke for introducing me to the hive community and I hope am welcome here.
