The sweet-bitter memories of my teachers

I was fortunate to have some very good teachers back when I was in school. From my primary school to my university teachers seems to have been carefully selected specially for me. I didn't have any iperforminge with any of them. However just like they say,"No one is perfect". In as much as I loved them all, one or two still had one thing that made them more outstanding than the rest. Generally, I applaud my teachers because it is not easy to teach people. Truth be told, a teacher is like a foundation in a building. If they don't hold you, chances are you may likely collapse intellectually.

My Best Teacher.

I had this teacher who taught me a course called "Pragmatics" in the university. His name is professor Chris Onyema. He was my HOD as that then. In my first year(Second semester precisely) my CGPA dropped drastically. He called me one day to find out what the problem was because I was one of the brightest students in class. I was going through emotional trauma then and it affected me so much. I remember how I was shaking when he called me into his office. I didn't know what he was calling me for and then, everyone was scared of him too. He noticed how uncomfortable I was and he asked me to relax. He offered me a very cold Plastic Coke from his fridge and butter Cookies too. This he did just to make me feel at home with him. He started with asking me how long I wanted to stay in this university. I told him I would stay and complete my four years course. He told me that may not be possible if I continue the way I was going. I opened up to him on what I was going through and he talked to me and prayed with me. That was how I got over that feeling and started reading hard again.

When my late dad became sick in my second year and had no one to help me with my fees and rent, he took charge of it and helped until i graduated from school. He told me that all he wanted in return was my success. In my life, i have never seen a man who completely cares for a stranger without wanting any sexual gratification in return. If you are a woman, you will understand that majority of these men who claim to help you wants to have your body at the end of the day. But my lecturer was different. When I graduated, he was the first person that congratulated me after i finished my defense project. When results were out, I was so happy because I graduated with a second class upper (2:1). He helped me get a good place in calabar for my PPA when I went for my National youth service corp(NYSC).

When I got married, he attended and was the Chairman of the occasion. The relationship has gone beyond student and teacher to father and daughter relationship. My husband and I still talk to him and sometimes we visit as family friends too. I am so blessed to have such a kind hearted man in my life. God bless you sir. I will rate him 10/10.

My Worse Teacher. (Rate 1/10)

As a child, I looked forward to becoming a medical doctor. Those days, I will catch a Lizard with my bare hands and open it up to see what it is made up of. I will then use cello tape to put whatever I find inside together as though I am performing a surgery on it. My mum thought I would be a great doctor.

In my Secondary school 1(SS1), we got a new Chemistry teacher. Her name is Miss Chika whom we called miss KOI KOI. She always wore heels that made noise and even if you are in a deep sleep, you must wake up from the sound of her heels. She made me hate chemistry that period because of the way she taught. She speaks broken English thereby making it very difficult for us to understand anything she was teaching. She sold Zobo and puff puff then and if you want her to be your friend, just patronize her. Because she didn't know how to teach, I wasn't able to learn anything at all. I didn't understand chemistry and I was told that to be a science student, you must know chemistry.

Things became worse when she started teaching us mathematics. I lost interest entirely in science and when I got into Senior Secondary school 2(Ss2), I quickly switched to Arts without blinking my eyes because I didn't want Miss Chika's trouble. She will come to class and start gisting as if we were her gossip mates. If you dare ask her to repeat what she had already taught you, be sure to kneel down till her class is over. To appease her then, we use to buy what she sold and she will be happy to gist us throughout her hour in class. I don't even know how the management employed such a lackadaisical teacher. But then I am glad I switched to Arts because i doubt if I would have done better being a science student.

In all, I am grateful to all my teachers that taught me because they all helped me discover my true self along the way. God bless them all.

Thank you for reading.

I would say you are a lady with a positive mindset who finds positivity even in negative event (as you mentioned about miss Koi koi).

I am really amazed to hear about the male teacher. What a selfless man he has been. Such people are soooo rare and if you find them you shouldn't let go of them any way

It's good you shared both sides of your experience with teachers... Both the good and the weird. Haha.

Teaching is not for everyone. When someone is not good enough, but the person still takes on the job especially in Primary school and secondary school level, it usually affects the students in more ways than can be imagined.

True. Because that's the foundation and needs to handled with care

Thank you for your contribution

Your lecturer deserves a medal because on average, Nigerian university teaching staffs are something else.

It is rare to find a lecturer that sincerely will help you without getting anything in return

Meanwhile, where have you been? Been a longtime. I hope you are back now for some comedy posts that I really enjoy reading

Struggling a bit with writers block but I hope to overcome it completely soon enough, I’m glad someone misses my humor 😅

Of the truth that your lecturer is one among the few angels sent from up above, that is a good characteristics of a teacher and a mentor many teachers out there are supposed to learn, I think even Koi Koi. Just look at how easily she changed your carrier because of her nonchalant attitude. That was horrible, her attitude wasn't far different from a goal digger but all the same I am sure you're doing well now with where life has brought you. Please don't forget to continue to call and visit that angel in form of lecturer ooo, He is too good to be forgotten..
I enjoyed your piece✌️💙
