Weaving Cage for My Squirrel 🐿️: My Handy Work, Created Not Learnt

Creativity is one thing that I love. I remember in my childhood memory, I used to make cages for keeping birds like dove 🕊️ and weaver birds. That was in those days when I was living in my village, use to trap 🪤 birds to keep for fan. Due to schooling and busy studies I don't get time to weave cages and keep for birds. I thought such skill or talent has evaporated, but this is certainly not, since something you have been talented with would not vanished.

I realized that the skill in my childhood memories is still within me when I decided to weave a cage to keep my squirrel 🐿️. Well, I didn't struggle weaving this. I quickly went to shop and bought wire mesh and wire benders. The shape came to my memory through creativity. I choose to weave it in cylindrical form

The process of my handy work:

The first step was to cut all the shapes using cutter and scissors. This was similar to what I used to cut palm 🌴 branches, remove the epicarp and use the endocarp to mold the cage. The only difference is that while the palm branches is from wood, wire mesh is from metal 🪙. And the joining is the use of metal binders.

forming the cylindrical shape & binding

I had join the parts to form cylindrical shape. This was done by using the wire binders to fix the edges together as shown:

Closing the top & bottom

At this stage, I closed the bottom and top. But it was the same wire mesh that were used. Squirrels are so fast that was why I decided to close the top too. But I used some ot the wire mesh to make some small gate.

The finishing

All edges were finally closed making sure that the squirrel would not be able to escape. At first I used to keep it in a covered half way. But, now this is so nice and ventilated to make the squirrel feel comfortable.

I put my squirrel 🐿️ in its new cage. This would be put in a bigger wooden cage during night with cold weathers. During the day, the squirrel would be brought out in his new wire mesh cage. That's so beautiful.

Thanks for your attention!!

I love your creativity, please keep up. Thanks for sharing. I love to do such in my fish pond to prevent prey birds from hunting my fishes.

Wow... This is a neat job indeed. Looks like a professional one. If you had not honed the skill, then you might not have been able to achieve this.
Thank you for sharing this with us.
