Day 870: 5 Minute Freewrite: Sunday - Prompt: wool sweater

"Isn't it lovely?" his wife declared, bursting with pride at her unique find at the garage sale. As usual, Evelyn was proud of her discoveries. "And I had the most productive day. It took me a while, but I was able to locate everything I set out to find," she continued.

"It most certainly is, and most certainly was," Tom responded, without turning to look. "And it's not yet winter. How thoughtful of you to think of me again. You're the best wife any man could ever ask for. And to think you spent your entire morning rummaging through every garage sale in our neighborhood to find it," he continued politely.

Due to her previous health scare, he was committed to helping keep up her spirits. Evelyn's spirits soared when her friends mentioned shopping.

Tom couldn't deny the shopping sprees occupied her mind, at least for several hours. And she'd become proficient at spotting unusual items for the family.

He was also committed to wearing his wife's unique finds at least once when he accompanied her to outings.

However, he was certain that someone from their neighborhood would recognize the items. Tom imagined they'd let slip a low chuckle, point in his direction, then converse with someone else. The companion would turn in the opposite direction to ensure he didn't hear the whispers that accompanied the scathing looks.

Ashamed he felt that way knowing his wife's diligent efforts to maintain their modest budget, he promised himself he'd work to adjust his attitude.

After dinner, Evelyn noticed that Tom still hadn't opened his gift. She grabbed the bag and set it next to him. Tom didn't want to marvel over something that came from his neighbor's home. But Evelyn wouldn't retreat. She sat staring at him until he finally opened the bag.

"A Men's Angora Wool Sweater. Wow!" Tom's voice rose sharply, as he attempted to figure out how she managed to secure such a luxurious item from a neighborhood garage sale. With a confused look on his face, he asked, "Where did you find this? Surely, no one in their right mind would give away a clothing item this nice."

Now, Tom was blustering. He demanded to know how she acquired the beautiful and expensive wool sweater. Evelyn just sat, smiling, then said,

"Silly man. Give away! What on Earth are you talking about? Nothing was free. Today was the 1-day Super Sale at Macy*s!"

Yes, @seadbeady. Angora Wool Sweaters are made for men. And in varying styles. Just like with any other clothing, it's not for everyone.

haha. No, not me, some friends of mine. We used to love scouring through the old antique district looking for unique finds. I was more into antique crystal and glass, specifically Czech Glass. Also French ceramics. My other two friends had varying tastes for resale shops. Although I've found some exquisite designer bags and clothes at the upscale resale shops.

Thanks for visitng.

This is kind of like O. Henry's "The Gift of the Magi" ... a big misunderstanding among people loving each other in a struggling time ... very timely for RIGHT NOW...
