An Animal Ramble ๐Ÿบ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿฐ feat. Monkey-B

โ–ถ๏ธ Watch on 3Speak

Monkey-B loves learning about animals, and recently she has become nothing short of a walking encyclopedia of animal factoids.

๐Ÿฆ’๐ŸฆŒ๐Ÿฆˆ Future Zoologist?

ย  ย  ย I can only take full credit for Monkey-B's ever-increasing animal knowledge, because her Khan Academy Kids iOS homeschooling app has taught her things I would've never imagined. She recently began talking about herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores, so I assume a recent lesson taught her these vocabulary words. Her English has improved so much over the last year, and now a whole new world is opening up to this Cambodian near-native English speaker.

ย  ย  ย She recently told me she wants to learn how to play the piano, so I immediately rode my bicycle to the nearest music store and purchased a full-size grand piano. Okay, well that was a fun little lie, but actually I made a deal with that in exchange for making a video with me, I'd download her a piano app for her iPad.

ย  ย  ย A little humor is always needed, so when it comes to bears, I always make sure the most important fact she knows is that "Bears are Godless killing machines." I think too much teddy bear culture has caused our youths to forget these things are truly dangerous, so just listen to Stephen Colbert...

Thank you, I didn't realize all the silly faces she was making at the beginning of the video, she is definitely a character.

Monkey-B is such an appropriate nickname for her, and she's extra cheeky when she's irritated with me.

I can't believe how full of animal info she is, makes me think she end up a zoologist some day. She also has a special touch with animals, a very soothing presence.

That is lovely when kids have that kind of touch with the animals because they will grow to be kind-hearted. Well, a zoologist in the family would be fine!

Just like T-REX. LOL

Don't get a Piano because she wanted to learn a Piano. Learn the Piano at the studio, and only get the Piano when YOU are ready. My bro said he wanted to learn the Piano, so yeah until today we still have a Piano at home with my parents. And the funny part is, I now can play the Piano when I don't have a Piano.

The APP may not help because playing piano really requires the touch and feel of striking the notes, I think a very basic musical keyboard does help if you don't mind to pay a little bit more than the APP. You can go even cheaper by getting those China knock off, but more importantly is doing the right thing and hitting the right note.

I agree, touching is not the same as banging ivory. If we intended to be here a little longer, I'd consider a cheap Chinese keyboard or even a kid's toy keyboard. I will check out that link because I definitely don't know what the price points or good brands are. Chances are when they are back in Cambodia, I will make sure this family has a keyboard. For now though, at least she can learn the basics like how to make chords, etc.

In the meantime watch out for godless killing machines!
