7 & More Reasons why I Prefer APPICS over Instagram

Could you guess how many photos are shared online on a daily basis? According to a study in 2020, more than 3.2 billion images and 720,000 hours of video are shared online daily. Imagine how these numbers are transformed the last two years.

Therefore it is no surprise that photo-sharing applications are thriving. Instagram recently broke its own record by reaching a new milestone of 2 billion active users worldwide

Do you use Instagram? If yes, do you use it to post or to be inspired?

Do you know any other equivalent apps where users get to share their photos and gain followers? I have been using APPICS since its beginning. And even though there have been lots of ups & downs, there has been a change of blockchain etc, APPICS is still alive and it is moving forward.

In December 2021, Appics went back live and it is on the roll, with many new events taking place.

This post is about some of the reasons why I keep using APPICS and also why I prefer it over Instagram.

Safety first..

.1. I don't get scammers' messages many times per day

I receive at least 10 dms per day on Instagram and almost all of them are scams. Recently I wrote about an experience I had here where someone was trying to scam me into creating an account on an NFT website and paying in ETH for promoting my work.

I have never so far received a phishing or scam comment on APPICS and if I would, I would immediately report the account

Motivation & Incentives

.2. I am rewarded with tokens for my content!

My content is not only liked, but it receives little incentives from other users. Every like is a couple of cents (in APX tokens) and these are added in my account every 30 days.

This image is the most voted one (mostly I receive appx up to $1 dollar worth of upvotes)

Give Back to the Community

.3. I get to reward other users too!

Not only for posts, but also for other users commenting on my photos. I enjoy interacting with them, discover new content & upvote (from 1 - 100%) users whose content I find interesting!

No extra app wanted

.4. Get unfollow notifications

If you are on Instagram, you know.. you get a bunch of new followers, you reach a milestone and suddenly you lose most of them! Instagram does not inform you of lost followers, only for statistical reasons you get the total of people unfollowing (and this only if you have a professional account)

However, if you are on APPICS, you will receive notifications for everything (comments, upvotes, new followers) but also for new unfollows!

.5. You get a cool preview of videos!

It is really cool to watch the videos unfold just as you check out someone's feed!
Not happening on Instagram, and sort-of happening on tik-tok (where you see 1 second preview of the video)

Support is vital

.6. If you need support .. you will know where to go!

The human element is the best! A Team is characterized by the persons supporting it.
APPICS has a telegram group, a discord channel etc - where you can simply go ahead and ask them anything you wish!

Extra Incentives with Referral Rewards!

.7. Get some extra APX as a delegation if you refer your friends!

This is a real cool, ongoing challenge where a user can bring a friend (or more) and receive great delegations!

In short:

🔸 (1) Share the link https://linktr.ee/appics where your friends will find direct both for iOS and Android.
🔸 (2) If they want, they can watch this information video with instructions here about how to set up their account
🔸 (3) When your friends make their first post, ask them to use the hashtag #referafriend and tag your account (make sure they know your APPICS username and that they should do this in one of their first 3 posts on any account!)
🔸 (4) Make sure that they tag the user they’ve been referred by!
🔸 (5) When all conditions apply, both delegator & delegatee will receive 10.000 APX delegation for 30 days!

Receiving such a high delegation means increased rewards for the first 30 days! Which will be very helpful for the rest of the days :)

There is so much more!

You only post your own photos & content, because you get to confirm that it is your own creation of what you are posting. I have never witnessed someone stealing my photos, while on Instagram I keep finding my photos used by other users without giving me credits

It is really fun to discover interesting (and good quality content), filtered by theme ... Check this out!

Having said all the above, there is only one thing I have not yet done!
I have not tried to redeem any of my APX to see how it works.

I plan to start using @liketu again, the hive dapp ... I think that there are soooo many options, I am really overwhelmed!

I recently learned that Appics is working again. I'm back (@moonappics) and testing for now. I haven't made an impression yet, if I'm not mistaken it hasn't yet reached the level of the past when it was in Steemit. I'm referring to the average number of votes regular members get, which may be an indicator of interest in this app.

Hi, @anomadsoul! Good to see you back in action. It's been a long time since I've not seen you and I feared you were up to something, knowing your adventurous nature.
I'm glad you're doing this marketing with Leo Finance, it would be needed in Hive too, but of course, if Leo grows so will Hive!

You couldn't find posts because I didn't post, logically! I meant to post in Leo Finance, I understand how beneficial it is for those who do this. I had a good start in this community, unfortunately, I realized that I don't know and understand crypto well and can't write anything interesting and valuable... I'm very sorry. I use to use Appics back in the steem days and then everything went blurry and I think I lost my account or something. I honestly don't know how to get it back

You will need to create a new account, use your old username and create a new account.
Then you will need you steem credentials to do the tokenswap and you will have then in your account within 24 hours

Appics are wonderful. Actually, I had the pleasure of meeting them at Steem-Fest in Krakow many moons ago.

Liketu was not released back then, but it was already well under-way in development. It's a good thing that there are alternatives, because it means (hopefully) that we can all learn from each other and ultimately the end-users will benefit from better experiences.

One thing I feel which distinguishes ourselves, is that we have spent our own time and money on the development and support. If I remember correctly, Appics had a successful ICO of the order of 4 million Euros. A reasonable sum and they have mostly delivered a cohesive and enjoyable product.

On the other hand, perhaps a slight disadvantage they carry is that they're not working to contribute value to Hive and the broader hive ecosystem where as our mandate was always to be a value add to Hive itself, not only as fairly large stakeholders, but also to bring the instagram like experience to HIVE with our own added twist.

I believe that learning to work with the great community we have here, and then trying to add some value on top is the only way we can as an ecosystem ever attempt to break into more mainstream usage.

Appics is no longer on hive, it is on telos blockchain. I am not sure if they think of joining hive at some point, but I know that there are users here that think really bad of the app.
Myself, I enjoy posting photos, and I really think that appics, as a blockchain / incentive based app - has lots to deliver. I hope they make it, but cannot vouch for anyone :)

Interesting! I was thinking about some kind of #web3 #blockchain alternative to “the Insta” for some time now. As far as i remember i even did some research on APPICS a very looong time ago, but it didn’t stick for some reason. So now you bring it back to me as the alternative i was looking for, that’s Great! I set up shop over there and i see we’re connected already, great again! Now let’s talk numbers … you’re starting this post with lots of numbers … i’m wondering if you have any numbers of actual active users of Appics?

PS: I just read about the referral process and try to remember it when i post there!

PPS: Another app i came across these days is “Huddln”, everything one posts on there is automatically minted as an NFT they say. Do you know it and if so what’s your opinion about it?

I have not heard of this app you mention (HuddLn), I ll check it and maybe write a review about it.
I have reviewed various apps, also one that was creating an NFT out of your posts - but none excited me.
Having said that, it is some time that I have not searched for any new apps so I guess that there may be a few I missed out.

This is a very solid argument for appics, and I wasn't so biased by their team and the several times I met them before, I would perhaps take up on starting an account there. Either way, it is a good project (at least now, not 5 years ago when they got filthy rich and delivered nothing) for those who are entering the crypto space and those looking to share the type of content their value proposition offers, but not for me.

I understand what you mean .. I have not met the team in person, so no personal opinion there - but - whenever I had an issue, there would always be someone to help me out.

I also respect the fact that they have been around for a long time, and they have many plans for the future.

Also, it is (for the past few years), the best Instagram alternative I ve seen and used!

I became Ambassador after meeting some of the team at all Steemfests. I really liked their energy, trusted and still do but someone needs lots of patience 😉😜
The value from my quite huge investment went down to nearly nothing and of course I am not happy about it.

I joined because I also preferred a simple App I can post pictures without writing much.

Due to Healthissues I couldn’t follow up too much on Hive/Leofinance anymore, even though I still read, vote and curate but it’s too much to be engaged as I was at Steemit Days.

It’s a good article Katarina wrote! Thanks for that and good Luck to Appics and everybody who believes in this promising Project.

PS : I am not sure if I would call it „decentralized“ dApp though.

You will need a different telephone number and a different email address for the business account.

I opened Appics at some point but didn't know what was required since I didn't get much from uploading a few pictures.

Plus, I don't know if the token is withdrawable or not. It's all confusing.

Well, you need to be active and build some following to earn rewards. Also, every photo's rewards go in your wallet after 30 days.
I know that the token is withrdrawable, but I have not done it yet to be honest. I will try it and post a tutorial about it soon

Appics is working again since Christmas time 2021.
It is now on the Telos blockchain, it has had its ups & downs but it holds strong (in my opinion)
I have not cashed out any tokens, I know that for now it is complicated but doable. I plan to try it out soon and post about it. (I use iOS and I think it is easier on Android)
