A Book Judged By a Cover

Aria has always felt judged; most days while she walked in the street of her town she would get stares and hear whispers, she would also see parents point at her as an example to their kids of who not to be.

She had gotten to the point where she was used to it, she had realized a long time ago that most people feared what they didn’t understand and they couldn’t understand her story.

She didn’t consider herself anything different but when she was younger she was involved in a murder case of a “promising young athlete” who was loved by the whole town and even though she was acquitted of all charges, most people still felt she was guilty.

She never spoke about what truly happened on the day of the murder to anyone except her mother and the lawyers; she wasn’t ready to defend herself and since it was a private trial most people didn’t know what really happened.

There were certain days where she would wish that she could turn back the hands of time but not all wishes could come true.

She began thinking of what she could have done differently and gradually her mind went into a time warp.

She had attended high school with Gerald but he never took notice of her, she was considered a nerd and he was popular so they were always miles away, but that didn’t stop her from falling for him.

On the day of his death, she was in the halls when she saw him walking towards her, she couldn’t believe her eyes but he stopped in front of her and handed her an invite to his party and pecked her cheek while saying “I hope you would make it cause that would make my night”, she felt like screaming because not only was it her first party but she was invited by the man of her dreams.

The party was slated for 9 pm but she had gotten ready the moment she got to her house, she told her mother what had happened and her mother jumped around the room with her out of excitement.

She had chosen to wear her mother’s dress and looked very beautiful in it but as time got closer, she became anxious and almost decided not to go but his words kept ringing in her head.

Getting to the party, she was a bit startled by the scene of teenagers drinking and doing all sorts of nasty acts but she wanted to be cool so she moved around the house looking for Gerald. She finally spotted him in a room and knocked on the door, he saw her and he smiled mischievously, it wasn’t anything she had seen before but she didn’t think too much into it.

He asked her to come into the room and when she thinks of it now, she could realize how stupid and naive she was. He offered her a drink and she accepted and gulped it all down.
After the drink, she gradually got weaker and what happened next brought about a series of events that led to his death.

She was still in the time warp when she heard little voices “mummy, mummy, Gwen is playing rough” which immediately snapped her out, she might have had a bad experience and she might have been judged by the whole town but she had received gifts that she would never regret.

THE END.

Thank you for opening this box of passion

Beautiful. Short but totally comprehensible.

Did she kill him because he tried to rape her?

Did he succeed in raping her, and that act gave her the children calling her Mummy in the story?

Gosh... You left me hanging with questions I have no answers to 😩

Hello @khaleesii,
This story presents a challenge to Ink Well. As you probably know, we have rules about stories that involve abuse of or violence against women. This young girl is drugged and apparently was abused while drugged. As one of the comments states, the suggestion of rape is strong. This story line is not consistent with the kind of material we welcome in the Ink Well. There is so much to write about. Abuse of women and (suggested) rape can be avoided quite easily. We ask our writers to do that. If you read the rules that govern the community and the Ink Well Manifesto, this principles is clearly explained.

We look forward to reading other sorts of stories from you in the future. Thank you.

I tried to avoid the whole mention of abuse totally, but I guess it is still insinuated.

Sorry if I went against the rule, I wouldn't again.

Hello @khaleesii. Your story hits on truth on so many levels. We all know the consequences that can sometimes happen given the circumstances teens are involved in. The underlying events can be determined by the presence of alcohol and teens, coupled with party scenes. Making wise decision is the key. Motivation of acceptance is usually a key factor.

Thanks for the read. I understand the reasoning behind the Ink Well's decision of this type of stories in the Community.

Take care.

I also understand their decision and I would be learning from their cautions.

Thank you so much for reading.

My best guess is that Gerald tried to take advantage of a tipsy Aria, and must have accidentally bashed his head as the girl struggled to free herself. Alas, no one would have believed her.
it's sad to be viewed upon as an outcast in your own community. Indeed, she was a book judged by the cover.
Nicely written story!

Wow... What a way to end a story... Cliff hanger.. Seems I will have to write something about that..

This is a beautiful piece.. I was glued to it till the end..

I was just wondering how come a guy who never noticed her would walk up to her inviting her for his party. I knew that moment that there was a hidden agenda behind the invite.. Since he made a bet with his friends to get down with her and he planned it perfectly.

People will always say things about you even if they don't know the story about what happened. Am glad she received a gift from that experience which she will never regret and that's her daughter Gwen. She is the product of the act Gerald committed that led to his death...

Thanks for this piece... @dreemport directed me to your post

I think a lot of girls have made this same mistake over and over and yes, she received two gifts..

Thank you for reading.

It's fine to be misunderstood or judged as long as one stands by what is right. She had every right to defend herself from being molested and I guess she was discharged and acquitted by the court. Let all tongues keep wagging.

I think not everyone likes to defend who they are especially to people who might never believe you even if you did.
