Let's Talk Splinterlands - Vouchers Seem Like A Great Buy Right Now!

avatar

In Splinterlands, there are countless ways to earn. To me, playing around with the many different options is almost as enjoyable as playing the game. You could even say that playing the game's economy is a part of the game itself. The guys have a great understanding of how to build layer upon layer of different mechanics, each bringing its own opportunities and risks. While this is not financial advise (which it seems you have to point out every time you give your opinion), right now, buying vouchers off the market seems like one of the best plays available. Let me explain why!

splinterlands.png

Back during the fist phase of the presale, vouchers were traded as high as 20$ per voucher. This has changed quite a bit since then as right now, they are only worth about 1.5$ over on Hive-Engine. This is partly due to the overall decrease in value across all Splinterlands assets but mainly because they don't have a very attractive use case right now. All they do is provide you with bonus packs if you buy Chaos Legion packs in bulk. That's not too shabby of course, but with 20,000 vouchers being distributed each day and about 40,000 packs being bought at the same time, it's easy to see why there isn't terribly much demand for them right now.

While we already know that they will be needed to buy Riftwachter packs, this new mini-set is still half a year away so it won't do much for the price for a while. There's more coming for vouchers, though, and while we don't have any exact details yet, we've learned quite a bit more during this weeks town-hall. The team repeatedly said that, going forward, basically anything cool in Splinterlands is going to require vouches one way or the other. By now, we have a pretty good idea of what that's going to look like: In the near future, they will introduce a voucher shop that will give us access to all kinds of stuff, all requiring a voucher on top of what ever else we'll have to pay.

There are several pieces that we already know about and that are very likely going to be introduced to the shop eventually:

  • New potions with new use cases. One of these potions is likely going to be the Airdrop Potion which is going to increase your chance of receiving rewards from airdrops.
  • New and exclusive promotional cards only attainable through the voucher store
  • New Skins for existing cards

There's very likely going to be more added on top of that but these pieces already look very promising to me. While we don't know how far any and all of that is still away, there is some additional indication that things are going to happen sooner than later. When the topic came up in the town-hall, Chatter asked if he was already free to talk about it or if he should wait another week before giving any more information. Ultimately, he was told to give it another week, but the question alone shows that they have something planned for the near future.

As many traders will tell you, more often than not it's a great idea to buy the rumor and sell the news, so getting some additional vouchers for what ever news we are going to get might be a great idea. Keep in mind that there won't be a town-hall next weekend, so said news is probably still 2 weeks away, giving us ample time to stock up before things get interesting.

Obviously, the news could end up being not as huge as I expect or its implementation could still be months away. So yes, there's the very real risk that there's not much going to happen with the voucher price in 2 weeks. Then again, I feel like there's very little risk involved with the whole gamble. Worst case, vouchers won't move much in price until later. Nevertheless, come Riftwatchers their value is almost guaranteed to move quite above what they are traded at right now. So even if you don't get an instant return, long term you should still see a good profit with these vouchers either way.

So if you have some liquidity that you won't need for a few months, getting vouchers now is probably as close to a safe bet as it gets in Splinterlands right now. That's especially true because most other trades you could make are probably going to take longer to create the same returns. As long as Chaos Legion hasn't sold out card and pack prices won't move much. I feel like the bottom is mostly in at that front so it's a good time to stock up, but selling out the set is going to take a few months at least so you won't see any big returns on your cards any time soon. You could also go with more SPS and personally, I feel like you can never have enough SPS:

Nevertheless, we still have some months of high selling pressure before the airdrop and VC drops end and the momentum should change for SPS. It's also a lot more prone to going down in value because of another possible BTC price action. So unless you are buying it to stake it for a long time I'd say getting vouchers should generate quicker returns than what SPS should be able to do.

What ever you decide to do, right now is a great time to invest in Splinterlands and unless something horrible happens, I feel like no matter what asset you decide to buy is going to appreciate pretty good pretty soon. I know there are still a lot of salty people around that bought at the height of the last FOMO cycle and that are looking at some serious losses right now. Loosing money is never fun and I can't blame them, but really, now is the time you should be buying if you want to profit from the game's success. Most assets have probably bottomed out and you have maybe another 3-4 months to accumulate before things are potentially going to get pretty wild again.

And that's all from me for today, thank you all for reading and see you next time!

It's difficult to see where prices of sps and vouchers are going but if learned something in my crypto years is that when you believe in something, it's always a great idea to buy when things are cheap ;-). I believe everything is quite cheap at the moment in SL and it's a good opportunity to fill the bags...

Buying right after a period of rapid growth out of FOMO and then being surprised when assets get low in value is a little silly.

Vouchers seem extremely good with what the team is saying about their future utility, especially looking at their current price. There are just so many ways to invest and it's so difficult to decide which one to take.

That is some interesting information. I think the VOUCHERs are some great income and it's one of the good reasons to continue staking those SPS you get from the airdrop. Maybe I will just hold on to them for now because I don't need to raise funds right now.

Agreed, nice post. I am moving my SPS to Cubfinance to stake in the BNB -SPS pool at 81% APR, because I am getting so few vouchers, and I want to accumulate SPS while it’s price is low.

Good post, and I appreciate your ideas. This is as you say a multilayered ecosystem, so I greatly appreciate articles like explaining many possible angles.
Thank you

Buy, when nobody is buying.
But I am not sure if 1 VOUCHER= 1 riftwatcher pack or
1 VOUCHER + some payment = 1 riftwatcher pack.

Value of VOUCHER will depend on . how riftwatchers will be sold.
