Own Your Own Money

There is a major shift taking place that is going to be epic. This is cryptocurrency and it will revolutionize, well, everything.

For those who are fully immersed in this industry, it should come as no surprise. However, many do not realize what we are seeing taking place.

It is easy to get caught up in the market activity. Here again, it really does show a lack of understanding when that is our sole focus. There is something much deeper taking place that will change investing completely.

This is technology driven so we have to keep that in mind. Everything we are dealing with here is built in the digital realm. This, by default, makes it technological. Therefore, not only can we see things advance in a rapid manner, the limitations are much higher.

It is amazing what happens when many of the laws of physics are escaped.

Digital Assets

Simply put, digital assets are a better way of owning our assets.

This is something that we have not indulged in too much other than those things specifically designed with cryptocurrency in mind. That said, we are going to see a lot of advancement over the next 5 years in this direction.

Much of what we own will have a digital representation tied to it. This is going empower those who have some assets to be able to leverage those for further gains. One of the biggest problems in the world right now, and what keeps a large portion of the global population poor, is the lack of property rights.

Digital assets rectify this problem. Once an asset is tied to a blockchain, the path of ownership is very easy to follow. This is something that is vital for real estate. While it will take a while to get there, here is one of the biggest shifts in the world. Much of the real estate in developing nations is extralegal. It has value but there are no records of ownership.

Ultimately, we are seeing the formation of a technology that will underpin all asset classes. That is why the idea that cryptocurrency is another asset class is misreading what is taking place.

Rather, look at it from the viewpoint that all asset classes will end up as cryptocurrency.

Tokenizing Communities

At present, if you want to invest, for the most part, you buy equity in a project. This is commonly done through the stock market although, if you have enough capital, you can buy directly into companies.

When we look at a company, say Disney, there are two layers. The first is the equity (stock). Here is where most people go. The second is the debt that the company sells. Many buy corporate bonds as a means of investing. Retail tends not to get into this realm as much which is why equities remain the primary vehicle for the average person.

Here is the question: where does community fit into this?

As of now, it really does not. However, with the ability to tokenize, communities add another layer on top of equity. What is the Disney community worth? Or the Tesla? Or the Los Angeles Laker?

We can see how this could actually outpace the equity value of the entity. Community is not dependent upon revenues, profitability, or margins. Instead, it is based upon passion. So those companies that can tap into that with their stakeholders, will find their "community" value to be enormous.

This changes the entire scope of money.

Our present system sees it as a liability on a balance sheet, which someone might not give you. Think about the haircuts a few years ago in Cyprus by the banks. People deposited money into the bank only to find they could not get it all out.

Community tokens means that people own their own money. They are not beholden to anyone else to give it back. This can increase in value as the network effect kicks off. Naturally, utility is vital but, if the community is large enough, that will spring up quickly.

All of this is happening right now. We are seeing the infrastructure being built. How long until we see this become a reality?

Over the next few years, we will see experiments being done. It will only take one company jumping in and having success before the floodgates open.

With crypto currency being legalised by El Salvador, more countries are starting to think about doing the same. The real issue is that the countries themselves dont really trust their own currencies. We are looking at Argentina with 50% inflation on their currency on a yearly basis. Yes, this does not happen once, it is happening for years and you can expect to see how fast their saving are corroding.

Thought provoking as always, Task.

There's not going to be an arbitrary crossover date where this all becomes a reality overnight.

Rather it will continue to slowly seep into our every day psyche until it's just not even a thing anymore.

Just money.

Many people make it seem like price is everything there is to this tech, they are wrong by a huge margin. First of all, this is technology that works, prices of tokens are not proof that the technology works, the technology is the proof that the tokens work and hence their prices.

!CTP This is an outstanding post. I need the encouragement, given so much in the USA appears to be going off in the proverbial handbasket. Long live the parallel economy, and may it stick it to the establishment trying to burn the country to the ground!

A great vision Task, I'm buying into it for sure. The old way just doesn't make any sense once you have crossed over.

The vision is not too far out there. Think co-operatives. A bunch of people working together to better the lot of their community.

This traditionally happens in the agricultural markets. There is absolutely no reason that it cannot be happen in the online world.

Legal tender or not, if the community decides to get paid in Hive (or another Hive based token) and then also spend in Hive (or a Hive based token) then we have achieved this goal.

The real challenge is to do this in an international, cross-border setting. I am ready!
