HBD in Savings VS Hive Power + My Power UP (ENG/ITA)

HIVE and HBD
Having HIVE and HBD in your Wallet has only one advantage: liquidity.
HIVE tokens can be:
- transferred to another account
- converted to HIVE Power or HBD
- transferred to Savings
- sold and bought from the market: https://wallet.hive.blog/market
HBD tokens can be
- transferred to another account
- converted to HIVE tokens
- transferred to Savings
- sold and bought from the market: https://wallet.hive.blog/market
HIVE -> HP
The operation of converting HIVE tokens to Hive Power is immediate and is called Power UP (HIVE->HP).
When a HIVE token is converted to a Hive Power token it becomes less liquid because the reverse conversion operation (HP -> HIVE) takes 13 weeks to complete.
The loss of immediate liquidity however is compensated by many advantages.
HBD -> HBD in Savings
The operation of transferring HBD tokens to Savings is immediate and results in the loss of immediate liquidity of the HBD tokens because the reverse transfer operation takes 3 days to complete.
However, the loss of immediate liquidity is compensated by an economic benefit.
Is it better to have Hive Power or is it better to have HBD in Savings?
(HIVE->HP) VS (HIVE->HBD->HBD in Savings)
To answer this question we need to evaluate and compare the advantages that HBD tokens in Savings offer and the advantages that HP tokens offer.
Let's start with HBD tokens in Savings.
The advantage of HBD tokens in Savings
Having HBD tokens in Savings offers one advantage: a 10% annual passive return (APR).
The 10% payment is made on a monthly basis (every 30 days).
The advantages of HP tokens (Hive Power)
Having HP tokens in your wallet gives you many advantages:
First advantage: a passive income of 2.99% per year (APR).
This means that if a Hive user has 100 HP and does not make any transactions on the Hive blockchain he will have 102.99 HP in his wallet after one year.
Second benefit: More Voting Weight = Higher curation rewards.
+ Hive Power = + Voting Weight = + Curation Rewards
If a user uses their voting power and votes on posts published on Hive's blockchain they will get 50% of the value of their vote each time they vote.
The curation APR is on average 9%-10%.
This APR is influenced by the timing of voting:
- Voting for a post within 24 hours of publication will allow you to receive a higher curation APR.
- Voting for a post after 24 hours of publication will decrease the curation APR.
Third benefit: more Resource Credits.
The Hive blockchain does not have a transaction fee system as is the case on other blockchains such as the Ethereum blockchain.
Transactions on the Hive blockchain are zero cost!
To make transactions on the Hive blockchain you don't need to make a payment in cryptocurrency but you do need to have an amount of Resource Credits.
+ HP = + Resource Credits=+ transactions on the blockchain.
Fourth Benefit: Greater decisional power.
An increase in the number of HP tokens owned by an account corresponds to an increase in the decision-making weight within the Hive blockchain regarding:
- choice of Hive Witnesses
- choice of proposals and projects to be funded (DHF proposal).
My choice: Hive Power!
In my opinion, between HBD in savings and Hive Power, the best choice is to have Hive Power!
Even if you only compare the payback, it is clear that it is better to choose HP tokens instead of HBD tokens in savings.
For example I have a Curation APR of 8.4% (source: https://hivestats.io/@libertycrypto27)
Note: My curation APR might be higher if I only vote for posts within 24 hours but I vote for a post I like even after 2-3 days of publication.
If I add to my curation APR the APR I get from simply holding HP tokens I get the following result:
Curation APR HP + Staking APR HP = 2.99% + 8.4% = 11.39%.
APR HBD in Savings = 10%.
If I use HP tokens, not only do I get 1.39% APR more than the APR of HBD tokens in savings, but I get more weight and influence on my beloved Hive!
I am a big believer in the potential of Hive and the strength of its large and beautiful community, and above all I consider the current value of HIVE tokens to be underestimated.
For an active user like me who likes:
- write content
- interact with other users and comment on other authors' posts
- play and invest in games built and developed on the Hive blockchain
- invest in Hive's second layer projects and tokens
Having more and more Hive Power is the goal to pursue!
The only disadvantage of HP tokens is the time required for conversion into HIVE tokens: 13 weeks.
But for me, who has never done a Power Down and who has precise growth goals on Hive, this is not a real disadvantage...
Today is November 1 and the first day of every month on the Hive blockchain is a special day because it is Power Up Day.
The @hivebuzz account supports Power Up Day and incentivizes users who power up on the first of every month in two ways:
- a badge at https://hivebuzz.me/.
- a delegation in Hive Power.
If you are not familiar with the https://hivebuzz.me/ website, I invite you to visit it as it contains a lot of useful data and information about each Hive account.
The "Power Up Day" badge on the hivebuzz website has no financial value, but only symbolic value.

In the year 2021 I received 8 Power Up Day badges and I want to continue my collection and get my ninth consecutive badge.
So today I made a Power Up of 100 HIVE.

HIVE -> HP
L'operazione di conversione dei token HIVE in Hive Power è immediata e si chiama Power UP (HIVE->HP).
Quando un token HIVE viene convertito in un token Hive Power diventa meno liquido perchè l'operazione di conversione inversa (HP -> HIVE) richiede 13 settimane per essere completata.
La perdita di liquidità immediata però è compensata da molti vantaggi.
HBD -> HBD in Savings
L'operazione di trasferimento dei token HBD in Savings è immediata e comporta la perdita della liquidità immediata dei token HBD perchè l'operazione di trasferimento inversa richiede 3 giorni per essere completata.
La perdita di liquidità immediata è però compensata da un vantaggio economico.
E' meglio avere Hive Power o è meglio avere HBD in Savings?
(HIVE->HP) VS (HIVE->HBD->HBD in Savings)
Per rispondere a questa domanda bisogna valutare e confrontare i vantaggi che offrono i token HBD in Savings e i vantaggi che offrono i token HP.
Iniziamo dai token HBD in Savings.
Il vantaggio dei token HBD in Savings
Avere dei token HBD in Savings offre un unico vantaggio: una rendita passiva del 10% annuale (APR).
Il pagamento del 10% avviene su base mensile (ogni 30 giorni).
I vantaggi dei token HP (Hive Power)
Avere token HP nel proprio wallet permette di ottenere molti vantaggi:
Primo vantaggio: una rendita passiva del 2.99% annuo (APR).
Questo vuol dire che se un utente di Hive ha 100 HP e non effettua operazioni sulla blockchain di Hive avrà dopo un anno nel suo wallet 102.99 HP.
Secondo vantaggio: Peso di voto maggiore = Ricompensa da curatore maggiore.
+ Hive Power = + Peso di voto = + Curation Rewards
Se un utente usa il suo potere di voto e vota i post pubblicati sulla blockchain di Hive otterrà ogni volta che vota il 50% del valore del suo voto.
Il curation APR è in media del 9%-10%
Questo APR è influenzato dal timing di voto:
- Votare un post entro le 24 ore dalla pubblicazione permetterà di ricevere un curation APR maggiore.
- Votare un post dopo le 24 ore dalla pubblicazione farà diminuire il curation APR.
Terzo Vantaggio: più Resource Credits.
La blockchain di Hive non ha un sistema di tasse per le transazioni come invece avviene su altre blockchain come ad esempio sulla blockchain di Ethereum.
Su Hive le transazioni sono a costo 0!
Per effettuare transazioni sulla blockchain di Hive non è necessario effettuare un pagamento in crittovaluta ma è necessario avere un quantitativo di Resource Credits.
+ HP = + Resource Credits.
Quarto Vantaggio: maggior potere decisionale.
Ad un aumento dei token HP posseduti da un account corrisponde un aumento del peso decisionale all'interno della blockchain di Hive relativo a:
- scelta dei Testimoni di Hive
- scelta delle proporste e dei progetti da finanziare (DHF proposal).
La mia scelta: Hive Power!
Secondo me, tra HBD in savings e Hive Power, la scelta migliore è avere Hive Power!
Anche confrontando solo il ritorno economico è evidente che conviene puntare sui token HP invece che sui token HBD in savings.
Ad esempio io ho un Curation APR del 8.4% (fonte: https://hivestats.io/@libertycrypto27)
Nota: Il mio curation APR potrebbe essere maggiore se votassi solo post entro le 24 ore ma io voto un post che mi piace anche dopo 2-3 giorni dalla pubblicazione.
Se al mio curation APR sommo l'APR che ottengo dalla semplice detenzione dei token HP ottengo il seguente risultato:
Curation APR HP + Staking APR HP = 2.99% + 8.4% = 11.39%
APR HBD in Savings = 10%
Se punto sui token HP non solo ottengo l'1.39% in più rispetto all'APR dei token HBD in savings ma ho un peso e un influenza maggiore sulla mia amata Hive!
Credo molto nel potenziale di Hive e nella forza della sua grande e bella comunità e sopratutto considero il valore attuale dei token HIVE sottovalutato.
Per un utente attivo come me a cui piace:
- scrivere contenuti
- interagire con gli altri utenti e commentare i post degli altri autori
- giocare e investire sui giochi costruiti e sviluppati sulla blockchain di Hive
- investire nei progetti e token di secondo livello di Hive
avere un Hive Power sempre maggiore è l'obiettivo da inseguire!
L'unico svantaggio dei token HP è il tempo richiesto per la conversione in token HIVE: 13 settimane.
Ma per me che non ho fatto mai un Power Down e che ho obbiettivi di crescita precisi su Hive questo non è un reale svantaggio...
Oggi è il 1 novembre e il primo giorno di ogni mese sulla blockchain di Hive è un giorno particolare perchè è il Power Up Day.

Ottimo articolo, davvero!
Fai delle considerazioni molto interessanti, l'unica cosa è che il 10% annuo degli HBD rimane tale se si decide di ricevere tutte le ricompense in HP.
Perché se riceviamo il 50% delle ricompense in HP e il 50% in HBD non avremo più un 10% di APR per gli HBD, ma un valore molto più alto. 😉
In ogni caso, la cosa migliore secondo me è avere entrambi in un valore abbastanza alto e vado a spiegarti il motivo : se una settimana non potessi postare per svariati motivi, perderei tutte le ricompense dei miei post, mente con gli HBD in saving, hai un "cuscinetto" minimo di cui fare affidamento.
D'altra parte, come dici tu, non conviene mettere tutto in HBD perché in questo caso di avrebbe poca potenza di voto e di perderebbe un gran bel potenziale sul guadagno dai post altrui

Ma la stessa cosa vale per gli HP, nel calcolo degli APR non è considerata l'attività del compound e questa se la applichi la devi applicare anche agli HP e il divario di partenza è sempre quello 10% vs 12-13%.
Sugli HBD hai il 10% e ricevi il 10% APR ogni 30 giorni.
Sugli HP hai il 2.99% APR e in più hai il 9-10% APR per l'attività di voto.
Ti conviene avere HBD solo se vuoi liquidità e se non voti (10% vs 2.99%), altrimenti perdi sempre un 2% circa all'anno.
In questo calcolo non è considerato il compound ma considera che le ricompense dall'attività di voto le ricevi prima dei 30 giorni ;)
Tra l'altro se sei attivo votare con un voto maggiore ti dà più visibilità.
Se ricevi le ricompense 50% e 50% avrai sempre dal momento in cui ricevi la ricompensa (e sempre se voti e non sprechi il tuo peso di voto) il 12% APR sugli HP e il 10% sugli HBD sul quantitativo di HP e HBD che hai ricevuto come ricompensa.
Io al momento sto accumulando HBD ma solo perchè voglio liquidità da investire nei pacchi di carte Chaos Legion quando saranno acquistabili altrimenti spingo sempre e solo sugli HP ;)

Ah, tu consideravi nel 12% l'attività di voto, non l'attività di posting.
Giustamente il voto non lo avevo considerato 😜
Ovviamente la tua esperienza ey maggiore della mia.
Il mio obiettivo però è quello di arrivare a 500 HBD in saving al momento e poi aumentare perché togliere HBD dal saving, impiega meno di toglierli dagli HP 😉
Guarda mi hai dato uno spunto per il mio prossimo report su Hive per confrontare i due introiti ;)
Si ma il bello è proprio che anche se ho esperienza potrei sbagliare ;)
Avere liquidità è utile se si ha bisogno di investire in altro e quindi fai bene a mettere una parte in HBD e io sto facendo lo stesso per investire in Splinterlands ma in generale per utenti come noi due che siamo molto attivi su Hive avere HP conviene di più per tanti altri motivi al di là della percentuale APR ;)

This was a interesting subject...something that was in the back of my mind.
However, some users need to power down because they need that money to spend and live, because HIVE gives them earnings.
I too power down sometimes, some to take out, some to buy other crypto. But of late, I have delegated to communities HP, because to support cummities in curation efforts and grow. I do this only on communities I kind of involved in.
I used HIVE for writting tranfered here from Steemit platform, that I encountered doing some crypto research reading news.
THat time I impractically hoped to get rich, but then had to take the hard way to think of growing than getting rich, and its been nice, mostly the learning and growing part.
Now, trying to grow earning tokens of other communities, staking...etc.
I can't tell which is better... I would say its a option to have some money you have idil to be in HBD and some powered up... they say its better than having money in banks, because your earning interest here and HBD is not backed by dollars but is a algorithic stable coin, that is damn cool!!
It is a little independent from the risks of having stable coins that are backed by dollars I feel. I think it that way.
Right now, I like to have some HIVE powered up, some liquid HIVE to trade and sell at high and buy the dips(I did that recently) and some HBD...combination of both.
Now, I stopped selling HIVE to buy other cryptos because it looks like HIVE as great potential too... vibrant community...disorganised but its doing well and its a thriving social media platform and I get high HIVE earnings for travel writeups.
So its going to do good for me, plus I can do some investing with the HIVE with this power up and HBD savings...all good.
Anyway.

Yes, I have believed in the potential of HIVE from the beginning and therefore I have never done a power down and I hope not to do so in the future because I consider the current value of HIVE undervalued but of course these are subjective choices and I don't see anything wrong in selling for example ;)
I'm accumulating a small portion in HBD just to buy HIVE when the value is lower ;)

Argomento molto interessante. Io ho messo un po’ di HBD in saning, ma l’obiettivo principale rimane sempre aumentare il valore degli HP per avere sempre più peso all’interno della piattaforma. Grazie Liberty per farci fare certi ragionamenti.

Oh, I saw that my delegated HP was in brackets! But I didn't understand why. Is it Hive's way of stopping me from converting HP to HIVE and then to HBD?
If so, that would make sense (the delegation is meant for me to get HP and not to cash out a check) but it would help if there was an explanation.
Because currently, it looks as if the (HP) is "pending" or needs to somehow be converted. Looking at my HP on Keychain for example, shows 20.672 and not ~40 as I'd expect it to (20 "retractable", 20 "built-in" delegated)

Delegating is a lending operation
If you delegate, you lend HP to another account, which, when it votes, has more voting power and gets more rewards because of the delegation it received from you.
The HP you have received by delegation are the property of the person who owns them and not of you who received them by delegation.
Therefore, you cannot convert or transfer them, but only use them.
Only the transfer operation allows you to use the HP because in that case you become the owner.
