Optimizing the card collection is an important activity for every Splinterlands player.
Optimizing my card collection is an activity that I like to do as much as playing battles, so today I want to share my choices and my evaluations about some cards I would like to sell and some cards I would like to buy.

The optimization activity of my card collection consists of:

  • selling cards that are not very useful in battle and/or that are in low demand on the rental market
  • buying cards that are useful in battle

The battle usefulness of a card

Splinterlands is a great game because every battle is always different from every other. In fact, Splinterlands game battles have battle rules to follow that change with each battle.

image.png

The importance of battle rules

There are cards, like some legendary cards, whose usefulness in battle is obvious and whose strength in battle allows them to be used very often and even when the battle rules are not particularly favorable to them.
There are cards, however, whose usefulness in battle depends very much on the battle rules.

Choosing cards according to the battle rules is always important to win a battle

Let's take the level 4 Screaming Banshee card (Epic card of the Death element) as an example.

image.png

Screaming Banshee's strengths are:

  • magic attack: 2
  • ability: Blast
  • mana cost: 3

Screaming Banshee has one big weakness, however: it only has two life points.
The only two life points make the Screaming Banshee a card that needs to be protected and therefore cannot be deployed in the generally most attacked positions which are the first and last positions.

But when the battle rule is Equalizer, the level 4 Screaming Banshee card becomes much stronger and consequently much more useful in battle because it loses its weakness and acquires the life score of the card in battle (whether friend or enemy) that has the most life.
For example, the battle in the following image had the Equalizer battle rule and Screaming Banshee gained 7 more life points and was important in getting the victory in battle.

image.png

The importance of summoner type cards

Battle rules are important, but the two elements that most determine a card's usefulness in battle are:

  • the level and ability of the ** summoner card** a card is used with
  • the ability(s) a card obtains when it reaches a certain level.

A card that is useful for me could be not so useful for another player and vice versa.

I'll take the Screaming Banshee card as an example again to show how its usefulness in battle is affected by its level and its combined use with a summoner card of a specific level.

If I use level 1 Screaming Banshee with a summoner like Daria Dragonscale, I get no advantage in battle.

If I use a level 1 Screaming Banshee with a summoner like Delwin Dragonscale, Screaming Banshee's battle utility increases because it gains an additional magic attack point (2->3).

image.png

If I use a level 3 Screaming Banshee and I want to take advantage of its ability (Blast), I have to use a summoner that can summon a level 3 Screaming Banshee. Otherwise, even if my card is level 3, it will keep the battle stats of the lower levels and I won't be able to take advantage of the Blast ability.

image.png

I wanted to show the examples above to show the importance of summoner type cards that determine the buying and selling strategy of each player.

The optimization of my card collection

The pre-sale of card packs from the new Chaos Legion collection is now in progress.
Card packs bought during the pre-sale cannot be opened immediately after the pre-sale but as communicated in the last post published by @splinterlands they can be opened later and probably before the end of 2021.

Most likely will be a gap between the end of pre-sale and official launch of CL
This means CL packs won't be opened right away after pre-sale
Goal is to get launch out before end of year
Still a lot of work with the CL cards and the new ranked formats

I took the quote above from the post:
https://ecency.com/hive-13323/@splinterlands/splinterlands-ama-summary-october-22nd-2021-9am-eastern

When Chaos Legion card packs can be opened, new cards with new abilities and characteristics will be released into the game.
My goal is to sell the cards that I don't use in battle or that I consider not very useful before the new cards of the Chaos Legion collection are released because after the release some cards of the previous collections could lose value.

Selling targets and Buying targets

The Flame Monkey card

I have 55 Flame Monkey cards in my card collection:

  • 2 level 5 cards (combination of 60 level 1 cards)
  • 53 level 1 cards

image.png

The lowest single Flame Monkey card price on the market is $1.79 (Flame Monkey level 1)

image.png

The lowest price for BCX is $1,695 - Flame Monkey level 2 (result of combining 13 level 1 cards).

image.png

I have decided to sell all of my 53 level 1 Flame Monkey cards and below are my reasons.

The reasons for the sale

Reason #1:

I already have in my card collection the level 5 Flame Monkey card, a level that I consider to be the best considering the cost/benefit ratio.

image.png

If I compare the level 5 and level 10 Flame Monkey card and consider for simplicity of calculation the lowest cost for each individual card needed for the upgrade, I get a total cost of:

  • $101.52 for Flame Monkey level 5
  • 676.80$ for Flame Monkey level 10

image.png

Compared to level 5 Flame Monkey of maximum level (level 10) acquires:

  • +2 speed points
  • +1 life point
  • +1 ability (Switfness)

In my opinion the advantages of an upgrade level 5 -> level 10 are not enough to justify the expense of $ 576 also because there are other cards that if purchased or upgraded would give me a greater advantage in battle than Flame Monkey level 10.

Reason #2:

The profit obtainable from renting is relatively low..

I always check the value obtainable from renting before selling a card.

Flame Monkey is not a very popular card in the rental market and can be rented at the following prices:

level 1: 0.100 DEC per day
image.png

level 5: 7.3 DEC per day
image.png

level 10: 33.950 DEC per day
image.png

Any passive income is always a great income to receive but Flame Monkey's current rental prices are not keeping me from the sale deal.

The "My Cards" section of PeakMonsters

I used the My Cards section of the Peakmonsters site (https://peakmonsters.com/) to put my level 1 Flame Monkey cards up for sale.
Selling 53 cards from the Splinterlands site takes a lot of time, while the Peakmonsters site allows you to speed up the process of selling groups of cards.

In fact, thanks to the PeakMonsters site, I quickly found the cards to sell using the filters in the My Cards section (image below).

image.png

Then I selected the cards to sell (first column of the following image).

image.png

Then I clicked on the symbol in the upper right corner positioned to the left of the cart symbol (arrow number 1 in the following image) and then I clicked on SELL as indicated by arrow number 2 in the following image.

image.png

On the next screen:

  • I selected the Relative (+/- Perc) option - Arrow number 1 in the following image
  • I selected the Low Buy Price option - Arrow number 2 in the following image
  • I have inserted the -0.5% value

image.png

With these settings I chose to sell my level 1 Flame Monkey cards at a price 0.5% lower than the lowest purchase price on the market.

Then I pressed the REVIEW button.

image.png

On the next screen I clicked on CONFIRM as indicated by the arrow in the following image.

image.png

As you can see from the following image except for a single level 1 Flame Monkey card that has a lower sale price than mine, my level 1 cards are at the top of the sale list.

image.png

I couldn't put all 53 Flame Monkey cards I own up for sale because I have rented 12 cards to other players and I'll wait for the rental to expire to sell those as well.

Now I just have to wait for the cards I put on sale to be purchased.

In the meantime I have already identified a purchase target: Serpentine Spy

My purchase target

In my card collection I have:

  • 2 Serpentine Spy level 3 cards
  • 2 Serpentine Spy level 1 cards

With the income from the sale of the 53 Flame Monkey cards I would like to buy 30 level 1 Serpentine Sky cards to upgrade my level 3 Serpentine Spy card to level 5.

image.png

At the time I am writing this post, there is a level 4 Serpentine Spy card (combination of 30 level 1 cards) for sale on the market for $90.

If I succeed I will sell 53 cards that I don't use in battle and with the revenue I will upgrade a card that I often use in battle especially when the battle rules are Little League and Equalizer.

image.png

From this optimization operation I will lose 230 points of Collection Power but I will have 5.34$ to invest in the purchase of other cards and above all I will have a more useful card in battle ;).

If after 3 days my Flame Monkey cards have not been purchased I will lower the sale price.

I hope you liked this post and thank you for taking the time to read it :)

Splinterlands is a beautiful game and it has proved to be a very good investment (at least until now) and if you regularly participate to the weekly contests organized by the @splinterlands account you will recover the registration cost (10$) in a short time.

If you decide to register, you can do it from this link:

https://splinterlands.com?ref=libertycrypto27

of course if you'd like to use my refferal link... :)

Any game that involves the purchase of cards and tokens is never a simple game but it is also an investment and should be considered as such.
I am not a financial consultant and if you decide to invest in the game of Splinterlands you do it for your own choice, after having made your personal evaluations and considered all possible risk factors.

My advice is to always invest only what you can afford to lose with a light heart.

See you on the battlefields of Splinterlands.

  • attacco magico: 2
  • abilità: Blast
  • costo in mana: 3

Most likely will be a gap between the end of pre-sale and official launch of CL
This means CL packs won't be opened right away after pre-sale
Goal is to get launch out before end of year
Still a lot of work with the CL cards and the new ranked formats

image.png

Nella schermata successiva:

  • ho selezionato l'opzione Relative (+/- Perc) - Freccia numero 1 nell'immagine seguente
  • ho selezionato l'opzione Low Buy Price - Freccia numero 2 nell'immagine seguente
  • ho inserito il valore -0.5%

image.png

Nice strategy on FLAME MONKEY!
I have a level 3 HARKLAW and level 4 CONTESSA L'AMENT summoner but each time I use HARKLAW it comes out as level 2. Any explanation for that perhaps?

Hi @joetunex
Contessa lament level 4 can summon legendary cards with level 2 and that's the reason.
You have to bring contessa lament to level 5 to use level 3 harklaw ;

Thanks now I understand, I've always try to interpret the above stats but can't really connect it. Now I see those colors implies the type of cards.

Screaming Banshee has one big weakness, however: it only has two life points.

Other than the equalizer ruleset, do not forget that there are certain summoners and monsters, which can increase either its (and every other friendly monsters) health or armor, or even its magic attack.
