Speak Up

It's never a bad option.

The past week I had a couple of toxic days at work, to the point that I decided to get my boss sacked and move on to the next one. I also gave them a few hints that they were pushing things way too far and that I wasn't going to put up with this sort of behaviour, simply because I don't need to. The moment I decided to hand in my resignation letter I completely changed my behaviour, and went in full aggressive mode. I had nothing to lose because I felt like I couldn't stand another day at the office.

In my mind, I was already out of the company. Guess how that turned out.

How you like me now?

This week it's all been fun and games.

All of a sudden, my supervisor became such a sweet and friendly guy. Apparently they care about me and realized they have been in the wrong, and all sorts of fairytale stuff. Only problem is I'm not buying this shit. I may not be the smartest or most efficient employee they can find, but I do know for a fact that I'm a workhorse. I have an unparalleled work ethic and never get lazy. I deliver my assignments on time and am always willing to go the extra mile and put in that extra effort.

Working overtime is something I hate but never avoid or complain about. That's why it's in their best interests to make sure I stick around.

They know it and I know it, and I know that they know it. And they also know that I know that they know it. I apologize if my last clause gave you a headache by the way. Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that you should always speak up if you feel like you're being treated poorly. The moment you decide to give it all away and call it a day is the moment everything becomes so much easier. Work relationships are built on trust, and team members should always respect one another.

Position of power.

Every relationship is a negotiation, and in order to gain more influence and power in negotiations, you need to be the party that cares less about reaching an agreement.

The one who cares less is the one dictating the negotiation. They will either have to accept your terms, or lose every chance to acquire or maintain whatever it is they desire. Letting go of expectations helps a lot and sure is the key to happiness in life, and knowing your worth can work wonders for you. You don't have to be the smartest human being in the world to be appreciated at your workplace. Being genuine, honest and trustworthy can take you places in life, and if the people around you do not appreciate these values, just move on and let them regret letting you go.

The moment I decided to do just that was the moment they all started to act as if they appreciate me much more than I ever thought.

Happy endings.

Long story short, I was on the verge of moving out within two weeks' notice, and now, three days later, I feel more comfortable than ever at the office. Sure, my crypto bags play a huge role in this, as I do have the option to just leave if it gets to a point where I feel like I can't take it anymore, but I'm a very stubborn guy who would prefer starving to death to being treated like shit. That's who I am and I like who I am. I'm okay with myself. So, these folks better watch their behaviour from now on. I made this crystal clear and it worked.

If you feel the same way, try following my advice. I guarantee you're going to love the results.

I appreciate your attention.

Stay safe and have a good one,
@lordneroo
