Analog watches will work when digital watches won't. Even the simple analog watch with no complications is useful for the one thing you need it to do: tell time. When batteries die on cellphones and smartwatches, the analog watch will work.

Ah... that's a good observation I wasn't even thinking of, but so true... Analog is not totally out we would say.

Long ago I gave up wristwatches when I began using pagers, BlackBerrys, & smartphones. I reconsidered after Superstorm Sandy hit my area in October 2012. The devices were out of power, & cell networks were overloaded. An old-school watch would have been useful then.

Damn... I can only imagine...
Totally unrelated, but sometimes I do wonder what I need to pack and have in storage if ever there's a storm or other disaster...

Oh yeah, have you ever written about your experience in 2012? Would definitely be interesting to read someone's account of that disaster.

I'm working on that post now. Compared to most people who have endured cyclones or other natural disasters I came out of it with "only" inconvenience. Even so, there are things I learned which were useful.

That is true though. We grow and learn a lot by experiences and sometimes or most of the time we get to learn something new about ourselves.

I we can learn more about ourselves from am experience, then the experience was needed.
