About the Quote

Children ask questions because their base of knowledge is very limited. We're familiar with the stage at which the most popular word used by a child is "Why?" (before the child switches to the word "No!").

In an environment where critical thinking is needed, asking questions is how we learn about the world around us as well as the subject matter we need to know in order to function well in society.

Whether we end our formal schooling with a high school or secondary school diploma, or we continue long enough to earn a 2nd PhD, our education continues for as long as we live. This education is mostly done by finding answers to questions we have, and sometimes the answers are found in unexpected places.

As long as we continue to ask questions, we will be rewarded with answers and education which will improve our lives. The day we stop asking questions is the day we begin to stagnate as people and just go through the motions of life.

"The more we know, the more we realize we don't know" ties into the quote, and it's one reason we need to question whatever is around us. Even if we accept what we've been taught or told, we need to understand why the answers are good enough for us to accept them.

Some Information about Og Mandino

Augustine A. Mandino II was born in Boston, Massachusetts, US on 1923-December-12. He died in Antrim, New Hampshire, US on 1996-September-3. He was named Augustine in honor of his father's father, who was Italian.

Better known to the world as Og Mandino, he is best known as a motivational speaker and author of books devoted to self-improvement and salesmanship.

While in high school, Og Mandino was editor of the school's newspaper. He had planed on enrolling at the Univerity of Missouri to attend its journalism school.

During World War II he served in the United States Army Air Corps (predecessor to the US Air Force). His service as a navigator was worthy of earning the Distinguished Flying Cross.

After World War II, he worked at an assortment of jobs before he landed a sales position at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in Boston in 1948. He left in 1960 to work for Combined Insurance Company in Chicago, Illinois, US. In 1965, Og mandino became executive editor of an inspirational and motivational magazine called Success Unlimited.

The book for which he is best known, The Greatest Salesman in the World, was first published in 1968.
