Today i will be talking about Nigeria Democracy Day To Me. The lyrics above is from one of the most telneted musical in Nigeria Runtown also know as Soundgod. He released the song (If E Happen For Lagos) late last year and I will be relating it to the Topic.
Democracy sounds surreal, I don't feel free at all, like I'm a prisoner without cause. Haunted by fears of dying at any given minute. The people assigned for our protection: "the police", have connived with kidnappers and terrorists to take away our livelihood. It's hard to tell which uniform is genuine because both the good and bad guys dress the same. I can't raise my voice against the ruling power else I'd disappear without a trace, it's more or less like a dictatorship, I could have my voice taken away from me at anytime. The only thing I can cling onto, is hope. Even then, everyday I ask myself, is today the day? The day I have my voice taken from me.
Every single time I listen to the song i so much enjoy it for two reasons. Firstly, because he's a good musician 😊 and because i can relate to every single word said on the song 😩 and the feeling that comes after it is what I really can't explain.
Normally I should have ended this with "I still have hope for a better and comfortable Nigeria" but it not as easy as it sounds. Thank you 🚶‍♂
