I'm John Huckel, the developer of the Matrix-8 Solution. My friend Atma has sought to get you to look at it. Among many other things - it provides a way to establish a Trusted Reputation for those who use the platform.
Think of a mash-up of a Chatroom and a Crowdfunding platform. The Matrix-8 will provide the standard Chatroom where ideas can be discussed openly. Then when the Participants want to go beyond just talking, they can use the matrix platform to Deliberate and Vote in anonymity.
As you point out - anyone can lie their head off on line and not be found out. BUT in commerce, if you don't pay as the buyer, or you provide shoddy products as a seller, your Reputation will soon be in the toilet. With the Matrix-8 Solution, both worlds are straddled. Once a Participant's activities can be tracked in the Real World it's a different story.

i actually wanted you to engage with @blocktrades as i'm not sure if he has looked at Matrix-8 yet. i think @gadrian has already read the post.
As Atma said, I read part of the post at the time and talked to him about it. If Dan (blocktrades) has time, I know he had plans about creating a better reputation system in the future, not necessarily related to Hive. And he responded to Atma below. Give a read to the articles he linked too, if you haven't.
