Splinterlands - Zero To Hero (Short Post About My Experience)

It is my third year playing Splinterlands and I have to say it is my best cryptocurrency investment that I have ever made. However it did not pain out as such in most of the time I was playing and investing in the game.

My Splinterlands Beginning

When I started playing the game daily the Beta packs were just sold out but Untamed had yet to be released. What I did most of the time then was surprising more outside the game than playing the game.

I was posting Splinterland blog post daily and at the time there were not that many active participants so I mostly got a decent size of upvotes in every Splinterlands post I was making. The upvote earnings were yielding me enough tokens to invest and grow my Splinterlands cards.

I was posting a lot of daily posts on games compared to Splinterlands and doing analysis of cards in the game. The earnings were not a lot but accumulating them help me amass enough cards to build a decent size deck.

Alphas Alphas Alphas

A lot of hours before and after writing the post I would go through the open markets to see if I could snag a discounted alpha card. I did this for the first year of playing. Back then Alpha rare summoners 1 bcx were going for under $1 when I started. Even before me I remember hearing other players were buying summoners for under $0.50 per bcx.

Since there were less alpha than beta and the DEC bonus was one of the only incentives of earning more rewards I sought after what I could afford in Alpha cards. I rarely merge any of the alphas and instead if I needed an upgrade I would have bought a higher level of the same card and either sell out the lower level card or rent it out.

I went and set out to own at least 1 of every alpha card and since then I am missing less than a handful of the alpha cards. I am still eyeing on finishing that goal.

Land Expansion and Up to Present

The biggest investment I made in Splinterlands had to come when lands were for sale. I will make it clear that I did not buy a ton of lands yet just a handful. At the time I had won two of the plots through mystery potion rewards and the remaining three through after market on Hive-Engine.

I had spent nearly 1,000 Hive in all to obtain those plots which turns out to be one of my most largest purchases in the game.

In the following months after the land sale and my plot purchases I had steadily avoided spending large amount to buy cards. In fact what I did was slowly added cards that I could afford but never spending too much or more than I could afford.

The Boom

The who process had me going from zero to around $4k for almost three years. In around middle of 2021 was when the boom came in for Splinterlands. My deck value basically went up 10 folds. At the time I was trying to build my Untamed deck but it turned out I timed it poorly. The Untamed cards rose in price much faster than that of Alpha and Beta. In the end I did not add anymore Untamed cards once my net worth in Splinterlands hit over $40k. I simply was not earning enough in play to earn or blogging posts so I basically started renting out most of my cards.

Renting out my cards actually yielded a lot of gains in the first few seasons around middle July all the way to November. My earnings from rental were enough in returns of what I had invested for so many years playing and investing in the game, three years. At the time DEC prices was hovering $0.016 each making over pegged by more than 10x. The demand for the game was running hot.

Along the way I did not purchase any of the newer Chaos Legions cards only up until the beginning of 2022. This was after all the phases of booster pack sales were over did I start looking and purchasing some individual Chaos Legions cards. I am steadily growing my Chaos collection and hopefully one day have a full max set.

Conclusions

I write this post hoping to inspire others into playing Splinterlands or give hope to those who have been playing and feel they are not earning enough and wishing to quit. The reality is in order to make a decent size of return one has to participate consistently in the game for quite some time. In the world of cryptocurrency we often hear or may even see gains happening in an instant, but that is not the case for most project that remains relevant for the long term.

Splinterlands is one of a kind and if you stick too it one day you too will reach greater highs with the game than what you would have ever thought of. There are many ways to be rich in cryptocurrency. Even within Splinterlands there are different paths to choose from. Where for me I started blogging and buying / selling cards. Then accumulate enough cards to compete in play to earn. I intend to continue playing and earning on Splinterlands for many years to come.
