WATER PUMP
This is an essential component of the cooling system of an automobile, the water pump is always in between the engine and the radiator. There are various types of closed and open pump impellers which are being used in the design of the mechanical water pump. The water pump has a very important role to play in the daily effective running of the automobile, the water pump is the equipment which circulates the cooling liquid which is closed in the cooling system. There is lot of heat which is being generated in engine and lot of this is due to the combustion process which occurs therein. The cooling liquid absorbs the heat from the engine block and cylinder heat and releases it into the ambient air through the radiator.
In a vehicle, the water pump is always mounted externally outside the engine, the water pump is always mounted either in the pump housing or directly on the engine block. In cases where the water pump is mounted externally, the pump is being driven by the belt that normally drives additional accessories such as the air conditioning compressor, servo-pump. Some car manufacturers usually prefer to use flanged water pumps and this is normally driven via the timing belt of the valves control system.
Whenever there is need for replacement of the timing belt, it is very labor-intensified. However, the replacement of timing belt driven water pump is a more labor-intensive process than the replacement of a v-belt driven water pump. Eventually, during this change of water pump, there are special tools and adjustment values such as the the valve timing, the belt tension. The mechanical water pump is made up of these main groups which are the drive pulley, the bearing with pump shaft, the pump housing, the sliding ring seal, impeller.
This makes up the complete design of the water pump. In replacing the old water pump with a new one whenever there is need for replacement, you must always clean the cooling system by flushing out the water by opening the nipple and allowing the water and coolant to flow out for about 10 minutes. Always remove the old water pump just as the owner manual has specified, every old fragment of the gasket must be carefully removed from the sealing areas on the engine block. The cleaning of the cooling system must be done before removing the old water pump and replacing with a new one. I would leave you all here with the following important rules which are that you should only use specified cooling liquid, observe the change intervals in the cooling liquid daily, use only specified liquid housing sealants, always adhere to specified belt tension, ensure good venting of the cooling system.
