David Bowie - A Remembrance

Hi music lovers! This morning I wasn't in such good shape and I felt inspired to listen to David Bowie's Lazarus song.

Lazarus is for me a masterpiece of a great artist and legend who couldn't have done something more personal and dramatically beautiful before his end. An end which is not really an end, the music of Bowie transcending even death.

Lazarus is Bowie's final single that was released during his lifetime, on 7 January 2016, three days before his death.

The lyrics and video for "Lazarus," as well as the album's other songs, were meant to be a self-epitaph, a commentary on Bowie's imminent death. During the week of filming, it is said that doctors told Bowie that his cancer was terminal and that treatment would be ended.

The song's reference to Lazarus alludes to Bowie's
prediction of increased fame following his death.

Lazarus is a biblical reference to Jesus restoring Saint Lazarus of Bethany to life four days after his death exemplifying this way the power of Jesus in front of death. In science and popular culture, the name Lazarus is frequently used to refer to the apparent restoration of life.

''Lazarus'' is a gift to us all that transcends the death of Bowie and adds some optimism to the sadness we encounter over the artist's destiny.

Here are the lyrics of Bowie's masterpiece for reflecting more on his last words through music:

Lazarus
David Bowie

[Intro]

[Verse 1]
Look up here, I'm in heaven
I've got scars that can't be seen
I've got drama, can't be stolen
Everybody knows me now

[Verse 2]
Look up here, man, I'm in danger
I've got nothing left to lose
I'm so high, it makes my brain whirl
Dropped my cell phone down below
Ain't that just like me?

[Bridge]
By the time I got to New York
I was living like a king
There I used up all my money
I was looking for your ass

[Verse 3]
This way or no way
You know I'll be free
Just like that bluebird
Now, ain't that just like me?
Oh, I'll be free
Just like that bluebird
Oh, I'll be free
Ain't that just like me?
