Where do you go to my lovely?

Hi music lovers! I want to share with you some old nice music I like. This Peter Sarstedt song sounds to me like a perfect ode to a fancy smart interesting woman.

Although the singer states that he can look inside the head of his Marie-Claire and admits that he knows her very well and that she somehow still cares about him, his appreciation for her is touching. Anyway, Marie-Claire seems to have forgotten her roots whereas Peter Sarstedt doesn't tell us precisely if he has feelings for her.

There are various references in the text with regards to Marie-Claire's beauty. Some of them I find iconic, and probably the others are iconic as well, I just wasn't aware of them. Many references are french and this could be a cause. For example, Zizi Jeanmarie or Sacha Distel are a French ballet dancer, actress, and singer, and respectively a French singer, guitarist, and actor.

As you can see, the song brings to light other famous artists and it can be a revelation for some of us 😀 I guess I am more familiar with other French musicians, such as Serge Gainsbourg, Edith Piaf, or more recent ones, such as Noir Désir. Also, Juan-les-Pins is a town and a health resort and spa on the Côte d'Azur and Aga Khan is an honorific title.

Well, besides enjoying the song, the loveliness of Marie-Claire definitely helps us not losing touch with some artistic and cultural landmarks. In my opinion, this is one of those songs that is too good to believe it was produced in 1969. The sound and the lyrics still seem up-to-date with a touch of oldies.

Hope you enjoyed the song and maybe you discovered new artists as well.

Have a great weekend ❣️
