Deviants Faction Goes Live

I previously introduce you to Deviant's Factions: Terra Play To Earn around a month ago and I had been waiting in anticipation for launch so I could give the Terra (Luna) Network play2Earn game a spin.

I've been on the lookout for new and emerging Play2Earn games for sometime ever since I missed the boat on Splinterlands and I am not saying that Deviants Factions is anything like Splinterlands but if you have played Splinterlands than you will be familiar with the concept.

Just for a quick overview like Splinterlands Deviants Factions is a NFT card based game that is turn for turn and the objective is to destroy the other persons base. Starter packs are live on Knowhere and are up for grabs for $250 UST.

But the game also offers you free decks to play with but you're really up to chance in what you get and I believe limited in the cards available to play.

This didn't deter me or as it appears so let's take a quick look at the game and how it plays out.

Glitchy start

The game looks pretty good and its graphics are awesome. Once you log in though is when you experience your first barrier as you will need to log in to select your deck. But unfortunately there seems to be a bug with xdefi wallet that won't go away.

Every time you click to change your deck or an action it flicks to log in even though I am logged in. So I can only play the first teams deck of cards. Given that all my current games I have versed people with the same stack I think this might be a broader problem.

Cards with abilities

Something a little different to splinterlands is these ability cards which fill the back row and connect to the correct corresponding card. Once it is connected depending on the ability it is passed onto the card it is connected to in the front row.

If the card in front is destroyed then the ability card will attach to the next card that takes its place.

The battle

As you can see on the left is your base and in the middle are the battle cards. They line up to battle each other and the way you hit the base is in two ways. Either knocking out your opponents cards or hitting the base directly through vacant positions.

For example that last top right card with nothing in front is hitting the base directly. Similar to Splinterlands card stats are displayed with damage on the left and health on the right.

After playing a bit I found a pretty sound game play that really worked well and that was to throw out 3 cards first and then the two ability cards. Despite having your base hit you will deal significant damage to your opponents and on following moves you can add more cards blocking the direct hits to your base.

But by this stage you would have already knocked out a few of your oppositions cards and have a vacant position yourself now blocking the enemy from hitting your base and you're now hitting the enemies base.

So as you can see the strategy leads to Victory just about each time although despite my wins I am not sure what I am earning or if I am earning as I am unable to see any rewards or if it provides me with any benefits.

I quite enjoyed the game and I have played a few rounds before getting bored as I have been unable to trial any of the other decks due to the buggy nature.

I think Deviants Factions is a game to watch once all the messy things have been resolved.

Is it wise to invest in the starter packs? I don’t see myself playing this game but I’ll like to still partake in its success, what’s the best avenue to do that?

Interesting. Looks like a very good game!

We are consistently flooded with new ones though and I wonder if they are good financial investments anymore.

Thoughts?

$250 seems a little steep of the cost to get a starter pack. What type of rewards do you get for playing the game?
