Today is the Holi Festival which is one of the most popular and significant festivals in Hinduism which celebrates the eternal and divine love of the god Radha and Krishna and celebrates light over darkness. Many many years ago my partner and I assisted the development of a community event in Footscray which was one of the first Holi festivals in Melbourne.

This year we attended Sri Durga Templa (Melbourne) for one of the largest annual events which is within our community. Victoria has the largest Indian community which is rapidly growing each year and the cultural injection we recieve is fantastic.

Family friendly events with amusement rides and activities for kids to attend and international visitors come to celebrate and mark the event with everyone.

We enjoyed a day filled with colour, music, dancing and amusment park rides which came at a welcome time now that little bloke is large enough to start to head out on his own and experience much of the rides little miss wants to. It makes it so much easier when the two are old enough to run about and not need a parent carry them all the time.

Many of my daughters school friends attended and even neighbours were present so it really felt like a strong and welcoming community event.

This also marks the commencement of a 9 day celebration that will end with a magnificant fireworks display which I will be happy to share with you all here on Liketu in the coming days.

Indian culture is a fantastic and inclusive one and for those that don't know we have a wonderful Indian community right here on Hive with @Indiaunited so I will be looking to see many other awesome Indian events that they share.
