A couple of alligators

Digging through some old photos I found these alligator photos taken on a long ago trip to Florida that I'm pretty sure I have never posted before.

These creatures are huge and can live for 50-80 years, if another alligator doesn't eat them while they are babies. They can grow to 15 feet long (4.6m) and weigh 1000 lbs. (453 kg)

Alligators live in the Southeastern states in the US, and since I live in the North I find them fascinating to see when I have visited Florida, Louisiana and North and South Carolina, but I can't get over the fact that I think they are really creepy. But even though I am not particularly fond of them I dislike the idea of them being killed to make shoes and purses.

Alligators have been on earth for 200 million years,
But the demand for hides and uncontrolled hunting almost wiped out the species and in the 1950s they were almost extinct. Today there are an estimated 5 million American alligators.

Most dangerous animal as though they are lazy but still need to maintain distance from there. Yes they live long.

I read that alligators can run at 20 mph. Average humans can run at 6. I think we know who wins in a race!

I've only seen crocodiles in the zoo, I've never seen them in the wilderness. I'm so scared because it's a terrible animal

I have friends who live in Florida and they frequently have alligators come into their yards. I'm afraid I would never leave my house! They are scary.

Scary creatures. Do you know the biggest saltwater crocodile in captivity (it's in the Guinness Book of world records) is from our country? He was 20ft long and weighed over 2,300 lbs. He was called Lolong and died last 2013. He was estimated to be about 52 years old when he died.

Crocodiles are more aggressive than alligators, which makes them more dangerous. . Alligators are opportunistic feeders, and they are not likely to chase you down unless they’re provoked. But I certainly would not want to test that!

I usually saw crocodiles at the zoo. But seeing crocodiles like this seems scary to me. This is a very scary animal. Seeing these, the body became frightened.

I have driven through areas of the southeast where you can see hundreds of alligators alongside the roads. Believe me, I would not want to get out of my car!

Alligators have been on earth for 200 million years

And they did not harmed the Earth as much as humanity in the previous 200 years. Yes. 200 years. Humans do (much) more harm to the Earth in 200 years than any animal in 200 million years.

Humans are destroying this world. And some people started to think about colonize other planets. But for what? To destroy those too?

Just something to think about.

So true. The amount of damage we have done to this beautiful world is astonishing.

from almost extinct to 5 million in 70 years is an amazing accomplishment. any creature that has been around so long deserves respect. it is a sign of perfection of form. it that sense these animals are very beautiful. not exactly cuddly but still very impressive creatures

They definitely should be treated with respect and viewed from a distance.

An adult crocodile looks like they are very strong, so easy to tear the flesh of their prey, very scary when approached, because they are silent but can pounce in an instant.
