Here in my neck of the woods we still have a decent amount of green left, but in the Northern parts of Wisconsin they have already seen snow, so I know winter is on its way. The seasons are changing.

The black walnuts are falling, making people avoid walking under the trees, but making the squirrels very happy as they go about gathering nuts and burying them to dig up later.

Wildflowers in the road ditch have gone to seed.

Autumn is a great time for mushrooms, but I was rather sad to see that these Hens of the Woods mushrooms popped up in my neighbor's yard. He is that one neighbor who has alienated everyone else in the neighborhood during his inconsiderate and sometimes rather violent drunken rages, so there is no way I would trespass into his yard for the opportunity to have mushrooms for dinner. I actually looked over my shoulder as I pointed my camera at his front yard, even though I stayed in the middle of the road!

Some leaves are beginning to fall, and soon people will be out working in their yards with rakes and leaf blowers to get the leaves back away from their houses and pile them in the woods.

Autumn is a lovely time of year to take pictures. And the weather forecast predicts warm days over the weekend and I am looking forward to being outdoors enjoying these Autumn days for as long as they last!

I love both black and English walnuts. These are difficult- first you must wear rubber gloves or the green husks will stain your hands black and it lasts a long time. Then you have to spread them out and allow them to dry before you can crack them. To crack them it's best to use a vise because the shells are so hard that you can't do it with a hammer! I can remember my grandparents sitting with nut pics to get the nut meat out of the shell. I don't personally know anyone who cracks black walnuts these days! It's so much easier to buy them at the store!

ah okay, those we have here are easy to get out of the green shell. But they also have to dry first, otherwise they taste too bitter. And they are really expensive in the stores.

Great changing seasons post. Love the leaves! We have a lot of black walnut trees around. Constant squirrel traffic and quarrels lol That certainly looks like hen of the woods but it usually grows at the base of oak trees. You have mentioned the forest around you is mostly oaks. Maybe there is some decaying oak wood or roots under the crazy neighbors yard 🤔

There are still some grand old oaks in his yard and these were growing under one of them. Driving down my lane we counted 8 squirrels in the road under one tree! We had to stop because they were in no hurry to leave.

Your first photo reminds me of fishing early in the morning on the river Danube!
Great capture!

This is the Rock River in Wisconsin. It flows past my house on its way to the Mississippi. I've been in Germany and Austria, but never saw the Danube.

My daughter gathered some leaves for an art project and I accidentally threw them away. My wife wasn't too happy!

I didn't see those types of mushrooms before! I had plenty in my garden, but nothing like these ones.

Were you able to hurry out and gather a few more leaves before she knew what happened?

I think those mushrooms like oak forests. I've never seen them anywhere else.

Nice black nuts, and of course, a splendid fungus. I joined this week topic too, it is too good to pass by.

These are amazing shots and they do show that seasons are changing. And the mushrooms are fascinating! They look like flowers at first glance :)
