Another week has passed in my challenge to owning a complete Chaos Legion Regular Foil Set and Land, and I will closely monitor and transparently share all details about the challenge in these posts.

Owning a Complete Chaos Legion Regular Foil Set and Land – Update 14

It's crazy how the weeks keep flying by when you are pursuing a challenge – it felt like the last update was yesterday! Nonetheless, as mentioned in the previous challenge update, the latest DAO proposal to remove bots from the Modern League was approved. I was hoping to hear a little more about the next steps for the proposal at this week's town hall, but nothing was mentioned about it. We did hear about a new exciting partnership with Chibi Dibos on the Invennium platform – both of which are the first time I have heard about. The splinterlands team provided more insight into the partnership and what they were trying to achieve.

One thing I have realized, being in the web3 / NFT gaming space for the past few years, is that many crypto gaming companies struggled to obtain that critical mass adoption. Many games in the past have garnered lots of traction early on, but it does tail off after a while, and many die a slow death after they cannot capture a wider global mass audience. I see the same issues experienced with splinterlands in another Play2Earn / Pay2Earn crypto game I play, sorare, which also struggles with this. Even though it has obtained licenses for the top five leagues in the world and many other popular leagues, it's struggling to get that mainstream adoption that AAA and traditional web2 gaming garners with relative ease. I commend the splinterlands team for their partnerships and outreach exercises as they try to bring more eyeballs into a fantastic game. Let's see what the future holds.

Land Funds

This week I had some excellent luck with daily rewards and brawl earnings. After saving enough merits from brawl battles, I opened a couple of Gladius packs and managed to bag two gold foil monsters – one common and one rare, both of which I burnt as I only play with normal foil Gladius monsters in brawl battles. That provided a nice healthy injection into my DEC, and overall I added almost another $25 to the Land asset budget.

Also, I have completed reading the whitepaper. Still, I will pick it up again to re-read once the Land 1.5 functionality is released and able to quantify a lot of the features and functionality of the Land gameplay.

Land Prices

While meme coins have been back in the news the past week and are all the rage again in the crypto sphere, unfortunately, the same can't be said for Land assets. It's difficult to say at what level a price floor will be established. Things may become a bit clearer once the Land 1.5 functionality is released, which then Land asset owners can start quantifying the types of returns Land assets will produce. I still think, at least for the short term, we will continue to see downward pressure on Land asset prices.
