Four Hour Workweek Response: My Target Income, What I WIll Do With My Time

I've been being nagged by my guides to read Four Hour Workweek by Tim Ferris for a while.

I read it before and couldn't finish it to the end.

Quite Simply, I can't stand the writer

The writing voice does not vibe with what I like to read.

But.

The message is good.

One of the exercises asks you to add up how much money you would want to lead your ultimate lifestyle

I came up with $900 per day.

And now my goal is to make $900 per day.

At first I was a little taken aback with the sum. Is this ridiculous? And then I realized its not, its just simply what it would cost to open up my time, so that I could persue my personal wants.

For example, I would love to go back to school and become a medical assistant.

This is a ten month program.

I don't ever want to work as a Medical Assistant

But I do want to brush up on giving shots and taking blood, and certain emergency procedures.

I have four kids and my parents are getting older.

I need (and want) these skills.

I love the idea of earning $900 a day

And living my life like I do now, but with a LOT more free time.

What if I really could pay someone to come wash my car, and clean my house?

And what if I could just pay to get my basement encased, and extend the porch and add a glass fence?

And what if I could just get water filters, and add a fourth bedroom? And pay an organizer to tell me how to make a kitchen this size effective?

What if I could have someone care for my kids while I went to school for a few hours?

What if I could be just like my kids, and do the things I like all day, and not worry about anything else?

Well, that costs about $900 per day

Oh, and yes, I do understand that I could cut that number drastically by cleaning my own windows, and not cleaning them so often. But why aim low.

I don't mind making dinner for my family every day. But it sure would save hours of my time if someone else did it.

And I don't mind looking organization tips up on Pinterest. But I would rather use it to figure out how to make $900 per day.

How much money would it take for you to live your dream life?

Funny how the more I say it, the easier it is to imagine is as a reality $900 per day.

Next Post Should Read: Tim Ferris is an efficient asshole, but his message is effective.

A four hour work week sounds very inviting. However, it would be such a challenging readjustment for so many 9-5ers. That be said I'd love to take that challenge.

That's the whole point of it. Re-Adjusting the 9-5 schedule.

It really is very interesting.

Although I must admit, the author and his writing voice are not my favorite.

I think roughly $200 per day would buy me time. That time I could spend doing things I enjoy, such as reading and posting things here on Hive. I would make videos. Shoot some photos. In other words, it would buy me time to make money doing other things. I always joke that I would get more done if I didn't have to work.

$200 per day sounds about right. I have four kids, which is probably why my sum is about five times bigger than yours.

It kind of is funny, because if I had more time, I would love to spend more of it on HIVE - I do enjoy my time here.

My friend told me to get a vision board done
But I am struggling with it, it's not what I want - not the fancy cars, not the big houses
But what you want the money for - yes, I want someone to come to clean my house too to give me more free time...
Ah, maybe I do need to work on that vision board after all :D

I love, LOVE vision boards. My favorite ones are made on a piece of paper, with pencil and some stick figures.

People think they have to create elaborate dream boards, which actually end up being a procrastination tool.

I would love to see your dream board when you are done with it <3

When you said it becomes a procrastination tool - guilty

I am curious about this stick figure vision board... I'm gonna have to google this :D

Please tell me what you find out through google, as stick figure dream boards are something I made up for myself.

Basically, since I am not so good at drawing, I draw stick figures or really simple drawings of what I want.

One example is that I wanted 10,000 HIVE power, so I drew a circle representing a coin, and I drew an "HP" in the middle and then wrote "x 10,000" on it. I did the same for bitcoin and litecoin.

For a clean and shiny house, I drew a simplistic house made out of a square with a triangle on the top, and then I drew little lines around it like a kid would draw rays of sun for sunshine and to me it means "shiny" aka "clean" house.

Its about drawing symbols that you personally know what they stand for.

Best of luck :)

hahahaha
That explains it
I found nothing with stick figures

But I love this idea. It has room to grow and not static like images

Thanks, @metzli :D

I couldn’t imagine making 900$ a day that’s a lot of money lol. In order to make this money it would require a new avenue to make the money. There is no negative income to spend ratio in our normal lives. We sometimes have to spend some money to do something but overall my wife and I require us to take in more money than we spend. I think what’s wrong with a lot of the world is this isn’t the ethos. Would it be great to work less? Absolutely but at the same time spending has to change to offset the reduction in work and debt should be kept at a minimum. It’s a little tricky to do that with an income stream such as a business in the beginning but when you are able to get one established and working, you could be making 900$ a day for sure.

So I didn't imagine $900, I did some backwards math. Instead of constantly asking myself how I could make changes to make life easier, I started adding up everywhere I could pay people to make life easier.

$900 is crazy, includes fresh organic food delivered to my home, and a chef to cook it. However, once my organic garden kicks in, and I have all the time in the world at my disposal, I'll probably not need an income for that anymore, as I will probably bask in the opportunity to garden and cook from my garden.

A babysitter so I can go to yoga? There won't be a need for that in a few years.

Once that deck is built on my home, it won't need to be built again.

But I think I'll keep the cleaning service, I don't like scrubbing baseboards, or cleaning ceiling fans.

Its fun to think BIG.

Also, this number does not include a new car, or moving, but I would definitely not mind a paint job, and for it to be detailed and washed every once in a while. Sure, it helps the kids learn responsibility to wash the car with mom, but gosh, I'd rather spend that responsibility time on picnic blankets outside, reading books.
