Preparing Foofoo for a sumptuous soup

avatar

It's been a long while I entered kitchen and not to even mention me cooking or doing something like this. I can't really place my head why it is so, might be it's because I have younger siblings who are now doing what I used to when they were small or maybe the fact that I'm lazy🤔? Obviously, it's the first reason and not because I'm lazy😋, I'm not lazy and it won't start now.

In this post, I'll be sharing with y'all how I made Foofoo. Foofoo is made through cassava meaning you'll have to plant it, it will germinate and when it's properly germinated, you cultivate it, slice or shread it using knife then you wash it and put it in some container with water and after 2 to 3 days, you grind it and then wash before pressing out the water and it's ready to be turned on fire.

So, Mom categorically and specifically told me to prepare Foofoo and keep that she will cook Editan soup when she's back from the market. Editan soup is one of our favourite native soups which is very well enriching to the body.

So, after doing everything I had to do yesterday, towards evening precisely at about 4pm, I started making this and these are steps or should I say procedures I followed.

  • Firstly, I mixed and turned the Foofoo very well using water and a big pot cos it was quite much. I turned it till everything was properly mixed.

  • Secondly, I went to our small kitchen outside and lighted up the fire using firewood. I would have used a cylinder but it was much and won't stay on the cylinder properly also it was pertinent that I make it using firewood so that it can faster and easier.

  • You need a spatula, a wash hand basin, water and a strong spoon in order to achieve that. All of those were available and while it was still in fire, I was turning and I kept turning and turning.

As I kept turning it, it was almost done and at this stage it became a bit difficult to turn the Foofoo very well cos it was heavy.

What I did was when it gets too hard I sprinkled water round by the sides of the pot to I can easily turn it at will and mix properly.

I kept turning and it almost done gradually like you can see there. Don't mind how blurred the pictures are, my phone doesn't snap so we'll anymore cos it's old🤦.

So, soon it was done and I turned it inside a tray like you see there. It took about 45 minutes for it to be done.

I took it inside and I used another tray to cut it and mix it properly with my hands for easy passage through the throat when eating.

It was very hot but then I made sure my water was there for me to put my hands so it won't burn my hands.

I kept cutting and mixing well till it finished. I then turned it into a stainless bowl like you see there and covered it properly.

As at that time, our Foofoo was ready to be served. You could choose to use it with Afang soup, Okra, Melon, vegetable, bitterleaf, Atama, Editan, and even White soup.

It was soft, well mixed and properly prepared by me myself and I 😊😊😊.

So, I had to wait for mom to come back and prepare soup before we eat. She thanked me for assisting and called me a wife material 1000 yards😁😁😁.

So guys, that is it. Whatever quantity you want to use, you'll just have to follow the way I did there and you'll get your desired consistency.

Thank you so much for reading and stopping by. I appreciate it and I'm still your babygirl @mhizerbee.
