A Feel Good Post

avatar

A little while ago, I wrote about the neighbour that I met here at the pool. I met her because my son was chatting away with her, and eating all her food haha. The woman was very friendly though, and didn't mind him doing this at all. You could instantly see and feel that she liked kids a lot. Let me tell you a little about her, and then you'll understand why I share her story.

One door closes...

In her case, the door that closed was the door to her job. She told me that she and her friend, who was also there, had just been fired from their jobs the day before.
They'd both been working at the Hilton Hotel in Tulum (I believe they deserve to be named and shamed), and after three months of service to the company, they'd been replaced. It seems to be the norm here.
Well, not only here because I know this happens in many places.

For her, Caro, it meant that she would have to leave Playa del Carmen, and go back home to Puebla. She told me she liked it here, and really wanted to stay but in order to do that, she'd have to find a job within 10 days.

I really wanted to help, and keep her here, so I asked her if she'd teach my kids Spanish, and I would ask in the groups I'm part of if there was more interest in Spanish lessons for their children.

It wasn't much, but it would definitely help.
For me it was a win/win situation because she'd have some sort of income (even just temporarily)
and at the same time, my kids could get Spanish lessons without us having to run all over town to bring them somewhere.

...Another door opens

As agreed, I was going to post Spanish lessons on a few of the expat groups but I wanted to ask the group admin first if it was OK to do so.

The woman who runs a few of those groups, happens to be French Canadian, and has been in Playa for quite a while.
I told her how my new friend lost her job, and that she speaks French, English and German, and that I was hoping it was OK to post Spanish lessons on the groups for her.
What happened next, no one could have predicted!

Good things come in

Caro had done the first teaching session with my kiddos, and they seemed to like her, and vice versa. Which was great, of course, it makes things more fun when learning is involved.

For two days, I didn't hear from the group admin, and just when I wanted to write her another message, she sent me one.
It said the following:
"OMG, I may just have a job for her! I am looking for someone to work as a companion for my elderly mother. Preferably someone who speaks French. Someone who can make appointments and translate things. She'd be sleeping in her own private room next to my mother's in five star hotels, and eat at fancy restaurants. And she'd be off in the mornings until around noon or 1 pm, so she can still teach."

WOW!!!

How can things go if you open up and let the universe handle things, huh? Amazing!

I didn't speak to Caro that day but she came over the next day, so I told her. You should have seen her face!! She was almost jumping up and down from hearing that news.
I was SO happy for her, and with a big smile I said:
"So now, instead of working in a five star hotel, you'll be staying in one!"

The Good News

Caro was supposed to meet the woman yesterday but it was canceled due to circumstances.
It was re-scheduled to today so, of course, I was curious about how it went.

Caro left a message for me to tell me that she is going to Mexico city to see her mother, but that she'll be back next week...

Because she has the job!!!

WHAT a story huh? Just amazing!
I could go on and on but to be honest, I have nothing more to add.

This is the kind of happy ending the way I like to see them!

Yesss, I feel the same way. She deserved a little break like that. She's been taken advantage of enough by those heartless corporations.

That's a great story, the kind of story that can give someone back the confidence to believe in the universe. And that is exactly what it takes to move forward, and indeed to receive what the universe has in store for you.

It's a lovely story @misslasvegas

It is great when things align naturally to create opportunities for deserving people 🙂

P.s. I really want to visit you in Playa sometime later in the year. I promise I wouldn't hang around more than 5 days as I'm a backpacker (and as I've been to Yukatan before) and would like to make it down to Belize and through to Guatemala to visit another friend I met through hive.

But none of this will happen b4 the autumn if it happens at all.

Best wishes 🤗

Yayyyy!!! Of course! You're always welcome! It'd be great to see you again :)
I'm actually thinking of doing a Hive fest mini if RoelandP doesn't have anything planned yet. Or a big one. You never know. Mexico is the place for it I think.

Belize is cool too.
And the friend in Guatemala...Bryan by any chance? :)

That is some spooky stuff because I was talking to Hellosunshine the other day in a DM about my @hivemerchandise store (which is taking longer than I thought to get up and running, mainly because trying to negotiate with factories in china off Alibaba is a pain in the ass) and I was mentioning meeting RoelandP at SteemFest 3 and that if he set up Hivefest in Yukatan it would be awesome, and also if he used his magic whale whispering skills to raise a massive pot of HBD he could maybe take my awesome t-shirt designs (and pay me mates rates) for the official hivefest 2.0 or whatever it would be called freebee t-shirts for attendees.

Ahhhh, sweet watercolored dreams.
