A few weeks ago, after nothing but work, I decided we needed a fun day.
We all love to go to a cenote on a hot day, and it's by far the best thing to do when the heat of the city gets too much.
I prefer it over the beach to be honest, and that's quite something coming from me.

There's always wildlife present at these cenotes. Sometimes more than others.
This time, we were very lucky. We went on a Friday, so it wasn't really busy.
On Saturday and Sunday, you wouldn't be able to find a quiet spot anywhere in any cenote.
This also keeps animals away.

But when we were there, there were lots of birds, as well as another cute little mammal.
Which I will write about in another post.

I'd like to share with you the photos I took of two different kinds of birds. Although related.

One is a 'regular' crow, however not less impressive. I love crows and ravens and their kind.
They're just such beautiful birds, and very intelligent.
As a child, I used to dream of owning one and teaching it how to speak haha.
Now I just like to enjoy them in nature.

The other bird is something I hadn't seen before until I came to Mexico.
One day my son and I saw a few of them flying around and they reminded me of the European magpies.
After returning home, I quickly looked them up on Google and found that they're local to the Yucatan peninsula only,
which makes them even more special to me.
These stunning black with-blue birds are called the Yucatan Jay, and they're also related to crows, ravens, and magpies.

They were all quite curious when we sat down to have our lunch and quickly swooped in to pick up the crumbs.

Thank you for reading! Let me know what you think of these amazing birds.
