The World Cup is a passion that has spread through television, now through social networks. 16 years ago in the World Cup Germany 2006 with my 12 year old son, I lived a wonderful experience of being encouraged to watch every game and keep track of each table of the groups and the corresponding teams. First I equipped myself with all the data I read through the newspapers I bought every day. Each newspaper had special soccer magazines in which they described each individual or group performance of each player and team. Also the calendars, posters and the Panini album. His father explained to him all the details of the game, rules and regulations.

El mundial de fútbol es una pasión que se ha difundido a través de la televisión, ahora por las redes sociales.
Hace 16 años en el Mundial Alemania 2006 junto a mi hijo de 12 años, viví una experiencia maravillosa de estar animada de ver cada partido y llevar el control de cada tabla de los grupos y los equipos correspondiente.
Primero me equipé con todos los datos que leía a través de los periódicos que compraba a diario.
Cada periódico traía revistas especiales de futbol en los cuales describían cada desempeño individual o grupal de cada jugador y equipo. También los calendarios, póster y el álbum Panini. Su padre le explicaba todos los detalles del juego, reglas y reglamentos.

That World Cup Germany 2006 was very exciting, in the country there was a lot of excitement for the opening day. In every restaurant there were giant screens, tables and chairs, in addition to the logistics to attend to groups of customers and fans. In my city, even in a square, there were screens so that young people could live the experience of supporting their favorite teams.

As for the Panini album, I got it for free with the purchase of a newspaper in the capital city on a stipulated day. Then the excitement grew every day of the competition. At my workplace there were several people who started to fill the album, and I was also encouraged to exchange cards with them. There was also a coffee shop there that sold the packets of cards, and we would get together and even the owner would exchange cards. At the beginning, every time the cards were uncovered, I would glue them together, as I bought more cards, I accumulated many of them and gave them as gifts to other children and family members. When I got home I would take the envelopes to uncover with my son and glue them to the album, my son was very happy every day that the World Cup was going on, we would sit down to watch each game and even bet on who was going to win, it was a lot of fun to share with my dear son, daughter and husband all this process.

Ese mundial Alemania 2006 fue muy emocionante, en el país había mucho ánimo para el día de inauguración. En cada restaurante había pantallas gigantes, mesas y sillas, además de la logística para atender a grupos de clientes y fanáticos. En mi ciudad, hasta en una plaza, colocaron pantallas para que los jóvenes vivieran esa experiencia de apoyar sus equipos favoritos.

En cuanto al álbum panini, me salió gratis con la compra de un periódico de la capital en un día estipulado. Luego la emoción fue creciendo cada día de la competencia. En mi lugar de trabajo hubo varios que comenzaron a llenar el álbum, y también me animé a intercambiar barajitas con ellos. También allí había un cafetín que vendía los sobre de barajitas, y nos reuniamos hasta el dueño intercambiaba tarjetitas. Al principio cada sobre que se destapaba las barajitas las pegaba, a medida que compraba más también salían más repetidas, acumulé muchas repetidas, las regalé a otros niños y familiares. Cuando llegaba a mi casa llevaba los sobres para destapar con mi hijo y pegar al álbum, mi hijo era muy feliz cada día que trascurría el mundial, nos sentábamos a ver cada juego hasta apostar por caramelos quien iba a ganar, fue muy divertido compartir con mi querido hijo, hija y esposo todo este proceso.

At that time we managed to fill the album. We also met in a bakery with other children. I even went with my son by bus to the city of Barquisimeto, to a shopping mall and to the Altagracia square, where there were some young people selling the cards to buy 10 cards that I was missing. Also tío rico ice cream brought out an edition of bracelets and small balls with the colors of the flag of each country. I bought 13 ice creams, but I got several of them repeatedly; however, the excitement of tasting that delicious ice cream and at the same time getting a bracelet was phenomenal. Particularly since I was a child I have been a fan of Germany and I got one, what a joy! Wow. But now I'm a little sad because they played against Japan and Japan won. Now they are 3rd in the E table.

En esa oportunidad logramos llenar el álbum. También nos reuníamos en una panadería con otros niños. Hasta fui con mi hijo en autobús a la ciudad de Barquisimeto, al un centro comercial y hasta la plaza Altagracia, donde había unos jóvenes que vendían las barajitas a comprar 10 barajitas que me faltaban. También los helados tío rico sacó una edición de pulseras y pequeños balones con colores de la bandera de cada país. Compré 13 helados, pero me salieron varias repetidas; sin embargo, la emoción en degustar ese delicioso helado y a la vez que saliera una pulsera era fenomenal. Particularmente desde pequeña he sido fanática de Alemania y me salió una, ¡qué felicidad! Wow. Pero ahora estoy un poco triste porque jugó contra Japón y este ganó. Ahora está de 3.º en la tabla E.

That year (2006) the country was very happy, there was a good economy, money was spent on that entertainment and you could still cover all your needs.

Ese año (2006) el país era muy feliz, había una buena economía, se gastaba dinero en ese entretenimiento y aún podías cubrir todas las necesidades.

Today, in Venezuela, in this World Cup, one can perceive laziness, disinterest, there is no sports spirit in any establishment, there is a very cold atmosphere. I have been in grocery stores, banks, bakeries and I have not heard a single comment about the World Cup, no decorations, no posters, besides, nobody gathers to collect the cards. Only in schools and universities do we hear chats and comments. Even in my house it has not felt the same, there is no excitement. We only listen to the television news or watch a game on the sports channels; there are no programs on the radio. Nor have I seen sales of T-shirts or people wearing them. In our country there is no fever, maybe there is some excitement, but it is not palpable. It must be the economy that does not allow us to enjoy this World Cup. Since the 2010 and 2014 World Cups, the magic of the World Cup has been lost, even I have the 2010 Panini album and the 2014 one, I did not even get to buy or enjoy this sport among the best teams. Hoy en día, en Venezuela, en este mundial, se percibe dejadez, desinterés, en ningún establecimiento hay espíritu deportivo, hay un ambiente muy frío. He estado en abastos, bancos, panadería y no he escuchado ni un comentario del mundial, ni adornos, ni póster, además nadie se reúne para coleccionar las barajitas. Solamente en los recintos educativos y universitarios se escuchan charlas y comentarios. Hasta en mi casa no se ha sentido igual, no hay emoción. Solamente escuchamos los noticieros televisivos o vemos algún juego en los canales deportivos, ni en la radio hay programaciones. Tampoco he visto ventas de las franelas ni personas luciéndolas. En nuestro país no hay fiebre, puede ser que haya cierta emoción, pero no se palpa. Será la economía que no nos deja disfrutar de este mundial. Desde el mundial 2010, 2014,se ha ido perdiendo la magia mundialista, inclusive yo tengo el álbum panini 2010 quedó a media y el del 2014 no pegué ni una barajita, es decir, no pude comprar ni disfrutar de ese deporte entre los mejores equipos.
