This is my post for #freewriters Friday prompt handcuffs hosted by @mariannewest

The only time that I have had a handcuff on was on my wedding day. When he was told to place the ring on my finger, he put me in handcuffs.

I have written about this a few days ago, so I am going to write about a party that my husband and I were at back in the 1980s.

Being a party in the 80s, there were several people doing drugs. One guy had a set of handcuffs and this other guy who I am sure was drunk and high said: "put them on me I can get out of them". The guy who had them said he did not have a key.

After about an hour of trying, he said he gave up and wanted the key. The guy who had the cuffs said I told you, there is no key, you said you could get out of them. He must have tried for another hour.

Someone brought out a tub of butter and smeared it all over his wrists but it did not work, then they tried lotion on top of the butter, and this did not work either. So out came the can of Crisco, it went on over the butter and lotion. He still could not get them off.

He wanted to call the cops and have them try to get them off, but with what was going on at the party, no one wanted the cops to come there. He had to be taken somewhere else.

Me and one other woman had not been drinking so we got elected into taking him to a store that had an outside phone booth. I called the cops and told them about our little problem. They sent two cars.

We had tried to wipe what we could from his wrists and the cuffs but plenty was still there. I can still see the look on the cop's face when he touched the cuff. "What the hell is all over them?" he said as he dropped the guy's hands and stepped back. I said butter, lotion, and Crisco cooking oil.

We explained what we did and the other cops were dying of laughter, telling him that it was his case. He brought out a huge ring of keys and while not trying to touch anything he found one that opened the handcuffs.

He ran the numbers on them and told us that they belonged to their department. They had placed them on a suspect a week ago and he ran from them and got away. That guy must have found someone with a key that fit them. They took the handcuffs back.

The guy that had the handcuffs was pissed that the cops took them, I told him to feel free to go to the police department and try to get them back.

Something tells me that guy never went to the police department to get "his" cuffs back ... what a great story!

Thank you, I never saw him again, but I would bet that you are right.

Interesting story @myjob. It reminds me of some of the crazy wild parties I attended in my youth. I didn’t drink either but always seem to be around those who did. 😆

I used to drink beer, but not that night, I was the driver.
