This is my post for #freewriters Saturday prompt hit the trail hosted by @mariannewest

Since we have had a lot of rain I decided to do some burning of the weeds that I have been letting turn brown. Yesterday I dumped a basket of weeds over, it was dry on top but under the top layer, it was all wet.

When I turned the basket over, this little red snake ran to the middle of the pile of weeds. He was fast and took me a bit to find him again. Why would he want to be at the bottom of all those wet weeds is beyond me.

After finding him I put him in a bucket and carried him over to the bamboo and released him. He took no time at crawling under all of the leaves.

Last Mother's day my daughter bought me a new phone, my old one was good enough for me but she thought that I needed a better one. She said that she was going to buy me an iPhone but thought that I would have trouble learning it. My old phone was a twenty-dollar android. So she bought me another android but this one, as the kids say, has all of the bells and whistles.

I said all of this because I found out that it has an app that tells me what something is when I take a picture of it. All I have to do is take the picture and under the picture is the word Lens, I push it and it does a search and tells me what is in the picture.

I took the picture of the little red snake and it says it is a Red Bellied snake, I do not know why they say it is red-bellied when the entire snake is red.

I looked it up and it is an exact match, https://www.floridamuseum.ufl.edu/florida-snake-id/snake/red-bellied-snake/, I thought this was an interesting fact, These inoffensive snakes do not bite in defense. If captured or molested, Red-bellied Snakes will often squirm vigorously, flatten their heads and bodies, and release foul-smelling musk from two glands in the base of the tail. If further agitated, they will occasionally curl their upper lip scales upwards to expose the upper teeth. This cute little guy thinks he is a badass.

The wind has died and we could take the kayaks to the preserve and hit the trail but while burning the weeds I did something to my back and can no longer stand up straight, each step is very painful so there will be no kayaking for me.

ALL photos are mine

That is an unusual-looking snake. He certainly blended into the brush well.
