A look at Cultural Differences - Ecency Discord Topic

In this week's Ecency discord topic, we are looking at cultural differences. We have some prompt's to help us, so it is a little easier 😅.

  • What things have you noticed that are perfectly normal in other places on this earth, but are frowned upon or weird in your world?

Something that is normal in some places is to greet people with a hug or kiss. Even for friends and new acquaintances. But here such close bodily contact could cause some funny situations.

I am often confused and wondering what to do in these situations. Especially if you meet someone from Poland or France and there can be a lot of cheek kissing involved.

  • How do you like that we are so diverse in our cultural backgrounds here on the Blockchain?

I think it is one of the advantages of being an online community that people from all over the world can come together, become good friends, work towards common goals and support each other.

When people are blogging about their daily lives all over the world, it opens up our understanding of different cultures and this can affect us in a positive way.

  • Do you judge or condemn people acting differently, or are you tolerant and accepting?

I love to learn about new places, cultures, and activities. Therefore I think I am quite tolerant and accepting. Although in reality I a probably much less tolerant and more judging than I realise. Therefore it is always good to try not to judge people but to have understanding.

I think most people are generally tolerant and accepting of other people and cultures. This is maybe why so many people like to travel and visit new places and people. They can then discover new things and enrich their lives.

  • What would you like to see more of in your country as it is elsewhere? More freedom for women? More laughter in the streets?

I would like to see an end to the promotion of dichotomies by the mainstream media that attempts to label people into certain groups and therefore divide people and play them off against each other.

If we could get rid of the negativity from the mainstream media, we could make the world a much better and happier place.

I think it's so good that Hive is so diverse. We need more people to come here and experience it. On other sites like fb the algorithm feeds you mostly people who are like you, but here you see people from all over the world.
I wish that more Americans would come here and learn, because I think one of the biggest problems here, whether someone is liberal or conservative, is that we are taught a lot of propaganda that we are "the best nation" or "the most free" or "the highest standard of living," and tv and movies say the same so unless people travel, read a lot, or spend time in international spaces online, a lot of them believe it and don't realize that a lot of places do various things a lot better than we do.
Like I remember growing up in the 90s the common belief was European people have longer life spans because they eat healthier than us. You saw various fads then like "the Mediterranean diet." Only since the internet have people realized "hey maybe it's because they have universal healthcare and can go see a doctor when they need one."

I totally agree with your sentiments. I remember moving abroad for the first time and getting out of my comfort zone with all my pre-conceived misconceptions. It took a long time to shake many of these off and I doubt you can ever be 100% free of them as the propaganda was initiated from our early school days. If you want to find out how free you are, I think a good test is to see how far you can travel without any pieces of paper (passport) with you.

Well, that's just size of country here, lol. If you live in the middle you can drive for literally days. 😂
After we graduated high school, a couple of friends and I drove to my friend's dad's house (her parents were divorced so he lived in another state). We went from Denver to Louisiana - so we didn't even hit either coast - and we drove for 36 hours straight to get there, taking turns.
I told that to a friend in England and they were like, "IF I DROVE FOR 36 HOURS I'D BE IN TURKEY" lol

I love meeting people from all over the world. Knowing how they live and what they eat. I have people from different cultures at my work and I think I annoyed some of them by asking for recipes from their countries. I just like to try different food.

If we could get rid of the negativity from the mainstream media, we could make the world a much better and happier place.

The mainstream media can only exist through division and fear otherwise they would actually have to do some real reporting instead of repeating what the government lies are or some insane plandemic or other equally rediculous narrative being pushed.

They would also have to as well compete with independent platforms which they have already lost too if we go by actual numbers and data.

They can't lie to you about a group of people if you already know the truth, people need to do their own research and embrace diversity.

War's are created by governments and their media organizations.

Actual people do not want this 😎

Very nice post, Steve.
One of the things that I have always loved about affiliate marketing was meeting people from all over the world.
That is ever so present on Hive as well.
It is awesome that we put aside our differences and are just people helping people.

In my place, we don't normally kiss as well. That's something that frowned upon. As many foreigners or Westerners come to visit our island, kissing is becoming more acceptable, especially in tourist area.

Realising that there is no "right" way!

Funny how we tend to think there is unless we've been exposed to other "right" ways... ❣️

Cultural differences are so rarely talked about and that may be the reason for world conflict. Perhaps, if we take the topic of cultural differences up a bar, many would stop being too critical. I came in through Dreemport!

Thanks for your comment. I think a lot is driven by the media to turn groups against each other. When we meet in real life, there isn't any conflict that is portrayed.

Let me talk about this one from my country's point of view.

I have seen other countries like the whites when they want to greet themselves, they either give themselves peck on the cheeks and hug so tightly even their friend's partner but here in my country, if you try such, they could harm you and think you are trying to snatch or seduce their partner which isn't normal to me. After all, there isn't anything bad in doing that 😂😂

That's correct...every tribe and people have different cultures and tradition and some of them are actually funny and some backwarding. I am one of the tolerant and accepting because many people have less knowledge of what goes in that tribe. I love traveling and witnessing so many cultures and ethics of people and embracing them whole-heartedly. Without theses cultures there won't be much of a thing called exportation. The more we find out the more it left is in awe that those things actually exist.
