Art Journal : First Digital Sketches

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to my Art Journal update for May. I am abit behind with my art journal update as it has been almost 6 weeks since I last posted. As this week's Ecency Discord is about art or creativity, I thought it would be a good time to give an update.

I have still been sketching quite regularly and practicing new things. Mostly just sketching with pencil and not doing so much coloring in lately so that I can do more sketches. I have been working through my Pokemon book with the many characters to draw.

Here are some of the characters that I have been drawing.

There are some really good characters to draw and they are real fun to draw too.

My other manga book is more advanced drawing and has many exercises and has been teaching about shading and lighting again. I have been doing some of the exercises as you can see here.

After that, I started working on my first digital drawing pieces. It is taking some time to get used to the difference with using a pencil and the digital one, but it is also a lot of fun learning the new techniques and some of the advantages you have. My first pieces have been quite bad, but then I managed to complete the two main drawings that you see here. I feel each time is getting easier and better.

Here is the complete animation of my drawing Endivie. I was still learning the different pencils and using the correct layers etc. and particularly choosing the right colors. But it is very satisfying being able to add the colors so nicely as you imagine. I am having to watch many tutorials to learn the techniques and remember to know how to do them.

Here is my most recent piece Pickachu how I drew him. Some things I need to try and improve next time are to do the coloring, I think there is a faster way without doing the outline compelety and also the shadowing, there are some things to make that better. I ran out of space on the canvas to do is tail completely, but I carried on regardless.

I still have lots to learn and just need to take more time out to practice. Some things I have also been working on is drawing text and trying to create different text effects. So far, this is proving not so easy as you might think. Anyway, I will keep trying and am happy to keep drawing and having fun.
