Finishing A 36 Hour Water Fast

avatar

I decided to do a water fast and am just finishing this up now. I have done them before and found them really good, but hard to do. A water fast is where you only drink water during this time and don't eat or drink anything else.

I think it is good to give your stomach some resting time and also help your body detox. In many natural healing books and articles that I have read, it has been said that it also helps your body to repair and if you are sick, get better.

Therefore, if you have the flu, runny nose, or other such symptoms, you should usually stop eating as then you will start to get better faster as your body will detox quicker.

My day started going to my trusted jug of water. This was going to be a familiar sight for me over the whole day. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner would consist of drinking just water.

With breakfast sorted, I could concentrate on my work and not worry about any preparation of food or drinks for example. Things were much more streamlined. It was still early days though and I would usually try and delay "breaking my fast" as long as possible if I am not feeling allured to eating some breakfast.

So far I was feeling pretty good. I was sharp and focused and could concentrate on my work. The time luckily went quickly because my mind would sometimes stray and I would think about what I would like to eat.

With my business activities up til lunchtime completed and not needing to cook or spend time eating, I was able to go for a lunchtime jog. Normally I would try and go jogging as early as possible to ensure that I jog on an empty stomach which is best for me.

Today I was lucky and could go later but still have that empty stomach feeling. The running was good and although I couldn't push too hard due to lack of fitness, it did feel good and I was feeling fresh afterward.

In the afternoon, the time went by very quickly and I didn't have time to think about eating too much and drank plenty of water. Luckily I decided to complete this task when I would be spending most of the day alone. There is nothing worse than doing a day of fasting when someone is chomping on some food around you.

When fasting, I started to realise how much time I spend thinking about food and how I should really try to eat less. Perhaps this is just wishful thinking.

Shortly before 5 pm, I went for a short drive and it was starting to get dark already. I was still feeling really good and my body I think was thanking me for water fasting today.

In the evening, I sat down with my dinner ( a glass of water) and proceeded to drink it. With that out of the way, I could do some Hiving. I was starting to feel a little tempted by some nice food but nothing compared to some previous fasts where I would be really almost tasting food in my mouth without even having it. I think this must be a sign that I really needed this detox.

Normally, if I am not eating for a while, I can get a little grumpy and snarly. Hopefully, I was not too bad this time approaching nearly 24 hours since I last ate something.

So far, some of the benefits that I have noticed are:

-cheaper, saved costs on food and energy to prepare
-saved time and increased productivity
-possible weight loss
-improved focus and clarity in completing tasks

Some of the possible negative things I have noticed are that sometimes I am feeling hungry.

With just 3 hours til the end of my water fast approaching, I will be eating my first food at around 12'ish for lunch. The experience has been very positive and I am thinking when I will do my next one.

Have you done a water fast?

What are your thoughts about it?

Thanks for reading.

I had something similar twice when I was preparing for a colonoscopy. It takes a week to prepare, and the last two days you just drink water to cleanse your bowels. After the procedure, you drink only water for another day. Once you get used to it, you have no need for food.

That sounds like it could be good for your health then. It is the first time I have done it this year as it is hard not to get tempted by food during the day. !BEER

Did you hear about the Scooby Doo villain who became an Olympic swimmer?
He would have won, if it weren't for all those medaling kids!

With empty stomach I can't do any tasks that's not easy. Though I don't eat that much as much as I drink water in whole day.

It's winter and well, this Flu ain't letting me heal so eventually I'm on this fast.

Mentally it is really tough to do, I am glad it is nearly finished. The hot water routine sounds really cool! Will you do a post about it? !ALIVE

I know of people that do this in my country.. Most for praying. They won't eat, it called white fasting and the only thing they take is water.. Some go for 2weeks

This is a difficult task to accomplish, you will be weak and hungry.
The most challenging component is being hungry. During the water fast, all kinds of meals will be drawn to you.
Nevertheless, the outcome is positive; it helps with cost reduction, work completion, and weight loss, as you indicated.

Since reading the advantages of water fasting on your blog, I will give it a try even though I have never done it before.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge, continue to spread love.

Interesting to hear about your water fasting Steve, I have never done anything like that myself, though it has happened that I have gone without eating for quite a few hours more than normal some times, thanks for sharing your experience and stay !ALIVE

This sounds really quite tempting. I never have a problem not eating until after noon. But then, like you, I tend to get a little hangry when I don't eat, and with hubby here or co-workers in the office that might not be the best thing. I'll have to think about a timing that might work.

Wow, good job. I have to admit, I cannot imagine my day without my morning coffee or something to eat.
Maybe I'll first try a pure tea day at some point when I know there won't be much heavy labor to do.
Respect for pulling through.
Have some !WINE ;-)

Excellent job on the water fast, it's not easy but it is rewarding.

I have some experience fasting as every year in January I do a three week "fast". I put fast in quotation marks because I call it a fast (complete absence of food), but it's actually a time of very little food, usually 200 - 300 calories a day. I drink water and a small meal for lunch and/or dinner but that's it. It would be difficult to maintain a family and work with zero food that long.

my mind would sometimes stray and I would think about what I would like to eat.

I can completely understand this sentiment. It's good practice in "mind control". I say if you don't control your own mind, someone else will.

Again, good job on the fast, your body thanks you.

Thanks, it is difficult. I try to fast during January too and just break the fast at dusk like they do in Ramadam.

Very good point about the mind 😉. A good habit I have is to avoid any TV "programming"..

I hear you on the getting grumpy thing. I have done a fast in the past before, but I don't think it was for this long. My biggest issue is since you are drinking more water you end up spending most of your time in the bathroom!

What an interesting way to detox. How was it after 36hours? I admire your steadfast determination to do the fasting. Although I do wonder why we humans need to eat at all (we'll save so much more if not LOL!), I don't think I can do what you have done. I like how you weighed upon the pros and cons.

An advance happy weekend.

It felt really good and was definitely worth it. I enjoyed eating much more after abstaining for a short time. 👍

Have a great weekend too 😊

I occasionaly do a week of intermittent fasting where I eat between 6am-noon, but only drink water the rest of the time.
I find this works well, so long as I dont binge during the eating hours.
