Becareful WHO you wish for!

Vitalik Buterin is a person I admire greatly. There is no need to tell you who he is or spin a post of his easily searchable bio, but I did want to point out why we should be a little careful who we admire and look up to.

For me, Vitalik is a beacon of light in the Crypto movement. Ethereum is a utilitarian chain that supports many uses and purposes which is in stark contrast to one-trick pony peer-to-peer payment system Bitcoin, which of course it does very well, and I hope that this, as well as Vitalik's philosophy for what blockchain technology should be achieving, is what is finally driving Ethereum to new heights this week whilst the rest of the markets find themselves in turmoil.

Vitalik believes in decentralisation absolutely and it appears to be his fundamental reason for creating the Ethereum blockchain.

“I think a large part of the consequence is necessarily going to be disempowering some of these centralized players to some extent,”

“Because ultimately power is a zero-sum game. And if you talk about empowering the little guy, as much as you want to couch it in flowery terminology that makes it sound fluffy and good, you are necessarily disempowering the big guy. And personally, I say screw the big guy. They have enough money already.”

So the point behind this post is?

... is I find myself confused by so many people who appear to worship Elon Musk, many of whom wouldn't piss on someone like Bill Gates if he were on fire. They are both wealthy, powerful individuals who have pushed forward technological barriers, but yet Musk seems to have this almost God-like status amongst the crypto community. He was lauded for buying into Bitcoin. Do you honestly think this was an altruistic act based on its decentralised philosophies? No, of course not. He wanted to make more money and so used his influence to talk up the price. This is a guy who having made a fortune from BTC is now talking up Dogecoin to be the world's global currency, for the benefit of humanity or the benefit of Elon's ego?

I have long thought the vast majority of people in the Crypto community were along only for the money and have scant regard or consideration for the principles of decentralisation, sharing the power or as I would prefer, attempting to tear the currently unbreakable bonds that link wealth and power.

Technology in the form of blockchains and tokenised economies ought to be creating a better world for all, not simply shifting powerbases and that is why I like Vitalik Buterin. He is principled, unlike Musk who, while a great funder of innovation, is nothing more than a Bill Gates clone.

Vitalik Buterin gave away $1bn USD this week to help the Covid effort in India and he did it without fuss or fanfare, he is not someone who likes to light up his name a dozen times a day on Twitter.

As the Crypto of choice for the developing NFT market, Eth will continue to rise, and hopefully, tied to this rise will be a shift and realisation that people like Vitalik Buterin are the ones we should lifting upon our shoulders and not little egotistical toads who 'get-off' on their own ability to be able to manipulate markets.

Exactly. Crypto people can be so easily led. Elon has played the market and played the crypto crowd like an expert. Buys cheap sells high, trashes the market behind him but hey, its ok, he builds rockets man!!

Can't add any more mate but the whole movement needs to find some common ground between profits and principles or this too-ing and fro-ing will never end!

but yet Musk seems to have this almost God-like status amongst the crypto community.

Not only amongst the crypto community but general entrepreneurship community as well. Elon fanboys, that's what I normally hear prior he shilled crypto. I think it is a problem when people put Musk on pedestal. Nowadays, I question whether there is an actual decentralization or it's all just illusion. These days, blockchain, decentralization, web 3.0 are only buzz marketing words.

These past couple of months have totally removed any respect for Musk. I still respect what his companies are doing, but in the past I have defended his actions to others and that is no longer the case. I will be a little more okay with ETH when they finally move to a DPoS system. Until then they are just too expensive to be meaningful to me.
