The following quote:

Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life

Has been attributed to Confucius and a number of other icons. It's a very true assertion, if you enjoy what you're doing it wouldn't feel like work at all and you can't wait to come back to do it everytime you take a break or have to pause for a while.

Now imagine the painful reality that the opposite is true for those who do what they do NOT love, it feels like work and work drains energy, leaves you feeling tasteless, etc.

A further painful reality is that we can't always do what we love, sometimes the tools, training, or opportunity to do what we really love is beyond our reach, but we have to feed and pay the bills, so we have to do whatever pays at the moment in order to get by.

Due to this and more a lot of us might be stuck with a job we do NOT enjoy doing, we wake up every morning unhappy that we have to do it, we wish the night would be longer, at work we can't wait for it to be time to get off, we need quotes and motivational speeches to keep putting in the work, etc.

Enjoying what you do is really priceless! Some of us have been there before, whether we were paid or not, that activity we really enjoy doing we feel really good while doing it and refuse to take breaks. The people around us usually have to persuade, bribe or coerce us into taking breaks; and during the breaks or pause we are usually missing our work and wish we were doing it right now.

That's the place many of us want to be, so the hack needed to put us in that mood or as close to that mood as possible when working at our various jobs that we don't like is really important, here it is!

The Hack Proper

It simple, view your job as a stepping stone to getting to your dream job. How? That is, do it in order to get the resources you require to do what you love. For example if you want to be a software designer but you're working in a car wash, don't wake up everyday hating your car wash job, but rather look at it like the job that would give you the money to get the required laptop, classes and other tools you would need to become a software designer.

If you look at it like that you're surely going to be happier working at the car wash, because you know you're only doing it so you would be able to do the thing your heart longs for. Since you know the car wash job going to make your heart desire possible it would become sweeter working there.

This means you would be saving cash and having the plans evergreen in your mind, then soon as you get what you need you're off to your dream job. Sounds very easy, right?

Possible Challenges

What if your current job provides very little money that cannot get you to your dream job or would take 10 years of saving to get to your dream job?

If so, you have to invest the money from your current job in order to build as much money as you want, or you could try to get another job (which you may not really like too).

What if your dream job cannot be achieved through money?

Maybe you want to be the host of a show you watch on TV, you have all the qualifications, but the guys in charge rejected you or simply favoured a different candidate because only one person can have the job. Maybe you've tried several other TV shows but there is no vacancy and right now you are stuck in an editing job or something.

In a case like this money from your current job could help you hire a team and start your own show, your money could be invested well some where and be used to keep you alive while you wait to start making something from your new show. That or your job could simply keep you alive while you wait on opportunities in other shows, you could also get involved in projects that would boost your resume and make you a good pick for when the opportunities at the shows present themselves.

Conclusion

Usually there is something to do about getting to your dream job, it takes money most of the times and your current job which you don't enjoy provides that money, you have to put your focus on getting to that dream job and be happy that everything you do in your current job is for your dream job, which makes it almost part of that dream job. This way you would love your current job more.
