Time off is just time to get ahead.
I'm not sitting here doing nothing.
To the common eye it might seem as if I am sitting on my backside watching TV but i'm actually working towards the future.
I downloaded Instagram lately to my phone for a project that I was working with and found out that it was a black hole of wasted time.
Free time that is making Meta more money instead of making me more money.
That's the opposite of where I want to be going. Time is valuable and while spending an hour watching horrific accidents, sports clips, idiots and cute dogs is a nice distraction for an hour it's wasted time.
And over a full week that could be 5- 10 hours of watching the same crap over and over again in a different form. I admit, It's very addictive and I'm not even a big fan of these apps. God help those people putting 20 -30 hours a week into watching these videos and wasting their life away.
I don't expect to spend my every waking moment in front of the computer or trying to make money. That's another extreme and not a healthy obsession either. I have a life, a family, hobbies. Healthy parts of a work life balance but there is also dead time. Time spent sitting on the couch where a lot of people open up their phones and kill time.
Time isn't something to kill. It's a valuable resource that we are lucky to have and that is in short supply.
Any dead time is time that could be put to use.
Instead of getting hooked on Insta, I'm doubling down on my Hive activity. Filling that dead time with productive activities. Posting, commenting and building up my reputation and portfolio where other people are still watching dogs doing tricks.
There has to be a tipping point at some stage in the world when our apps reach a more polished level that have the same entertainment value as their predecessors. Then when their is a monetary layer added to the top of that and a wider suite of apps all linked to that monetary system that mass adoption will be explosive. It just takes a few good apps to start that process and show people a better alternative.
We are still a long way off seeing big numbers join the eco-system but what feels like dead time in crypto adoption is actually time to build and strengthen the eco-system.
Time that could be wasted watching token prices or put to good use and keep developing our offerings. Get ahead of the wasters and the moaners. The ones who only turn up when times are good.
They think that a bear market is dead time. We know differently.

Happy you are not killing time with Meta traps. Unfortunately, a lot of people sleep in those places and make Mark richer.
The best and most valuable time is the one spent with family and friends. You cannot buy it with money. And running away from having our faces glued to the screen 24/7 is victory.
90% of my screen time is here. Not just for the earnings, but the knowledge, connections and experience here is far more valuable.

Precise and straight to the point. Of a truth the illusion that we have all the time is the world kills the need to be intentional. I hardly spend time on Instagram. I think that people only begin to realize there's no time is during the bull market, when they previously had all the time to build, but they didn't.

Time flies quickly while being active on Facebook and Instagram. When anyone thinks how much time he wastes on social media in a week and month, that's huge. We can do a lot of things instead of wasting our time over there.

Amen brother. My only regret is not knowing this during the last bear market, where lots of people kept plugging away and made massive strides here on Hive. Anyway, I'm not one to dwell on the past, so I am just thankful that I had a great 2022 and if I can match that in 2023, I'll be well on the way to where I want to get to.
I hear you on Instagram, though I have never downloaded that one - for me it is Tiktok, every now and then I download it after getting a funny Whatsapp forward. I always have it deleted again within a day, as you could easily spend 3 or 4 hours a day shitehawking on those apps, burning valuable time as your post says.
Instagram can be a good source of followers and income. Had some folks joining Hive due to Insta, but most left, as it is not as easy to post in here.

Hopefully the team at liketu can build a good alternative over time. They have a good website but need an app to really compete.
It's the only way to grow is through the apps.

There is only so much time in the day and even I find it tough to really get everything done. I use a few hours every single day on Hive but I kind of wish I had more time available and I also felt that the social media apps like Twitter, Instagram and Facebook were a waste of time.
